I will admit, going into the 2010 Draft I wasn't a fan of Tebow. I didnt think his skills would translate into McDaniels spread offense. After watching him during the preseason, my perception has changed. He has mobility and could extend plays. I was extremely impressed by his arm strength. And while his mechanics (and throwing to his right) need some work, he can throw a very good deep ball. I truly believe after spending a couple of seasons on the bench, watching Orton shred opposing defenses through the air, Tebow can be the face of the Broncos for years to come.
Going into this season, I had questioned Ortons skill-set as an NFL QB. I though he didn't have the mobility to extend plays or footwork in the pocket to step up and make a throw. I questioned his ability to put the team on his back and go win a game when needed (see: Elway). I was also concerned about his ability to stretch the field with the deep ball. Well...4 games (I know, small sample size) in to the 2010 season and Orton has answered all of my questions. He has significantly improved his footwork in the pocket, he has now thrown a TD with under 2 minutes left to preserve a victory and is on pace to shatter the NFL passing mark set by Dan Marino in 1984.Right now he is a top 5 or 6 QB in the entire NFL.
These development create quite a dilemma for the Broncos...a good problem to have...but they have too many quarterbacks....what are they to do?
This has to be a question on every Bronco fans mind. What is McX and going to do when Orton's contract expires at the end of the 2011 season? Are they going to say their goodbyes to Orton? When the NFL is a game centered around who is under center (look at the past Super Bowl Winners...Brees, Manning x2, Brady, Big Ben) can you really let a record setting QB walk? Do they trade Tebow to someone desperate for a QB (Bills, Raiders, Vikings, Jacksonville) and collect a bevy of draft picks (or pick) in exchange? Do the Broncos give thanks to Orton for his services and welcome in the Tebow era? Im curious, what are Bronco Country's thoughts on this matter?
