We need a Player Personel GM - Bill Parcells anyone???

Looking more and more into who Josh McDaniels drafted the last 2 years makes me want a GM who is in charge of personel like what The Pittsburgh Steelers has.  I have tried my best to be a Josh McDaniels supporter but he really has made alot of mistakes as Coach of The Denver Broncos.

Here are some thoughts on this.

Star-divide

2009 NFL Draft

1st Round -   Knowshon Moreno - the rumor was that San Diego Chargers wanted Moreno and Josh choose Moreno over Brian Orakpo.    We all know how this has turned out.

1st Round -  Robert Ayers - McDaniels chooses a 4-3 DE who never played LB to spend it next 1st Round Pick on.  Ayers still could be decent player but looks like he will never be a great OLB.

2nd Round -  Alfonso Smith - Probably McDaniels biggest mistake.  Could have drafted Rey Maualuga , Jarius Byrd or Ron Brace.

2nd Round - Darcel McBath - good player when healthy.

2nd Round  -  Robert Quinn - McDaniels trades 2 - 3rd Round Picks for this blocking TE who has done nothing to warrant a 2nd Round Pick.

4th Round -   David Bruton - very good special teamer in 4th Round.

4th Round -   Seth Olsen - GONE

5th Round -   Kenny McKinnley - RIP

6th Round -   Tom Brandsetter - Colts

7th Round  -   Blake Schulter - GONE.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

2010 NFL Draft

1st Round Pick ---- Demaryius Thomas - sure he has potential but Denver could have gotten Dez Bryant or if McDaniels had a better understanding of his own roster(Brandon Llyodd) Denver could have gone Defense.  Devin McCourty would be a great addition.

1st Round Pick -   Tim Tebow - again McDaniels was clueless with how well Orton would play on pace for almost 5,000 yards.   Denver could have gotten 3 picks for Tebow.

LaMarr Houston -   Excellent DT for The Raiders

Aaron Hernandez - TE - New England

John Connor - FB - NY JETS

That is 3 players who would have made Denver better.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

McDaniels also missed Big Time when he traded Peyton Hillis to The Cleveland Browns.  This is the most unexcusable trade that McDaniels has done.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________

The rule is that make 1 mistake Ok , Make 3,4,5 mistakes and it is a pattern.  McDaniels has proven to not be a good judge of talent and Pat Bowlen needs to hire a GM - Bill Parcells???   Someone who has a clue on talent.

Please Pat Bowlen hire Bill Parcells.

Pipe dream

Parcells would never come to Denver to play GM. Not even if Bowlen gave him a blank check and told him to pick a number. Not going to happen………..ever.

I was going to say the same thing

Reminds me of when Jim Leyland managed the Rockies.

Here for a year, nearly comatose. Never invested himself in our cause. Why repeat that with Parcells?

Why wouldn't Parcells come to Denver????

Do you know something that we don’t??? I am sure that if Pat Bowlen opened up his wallet he would come in a heart beat. Parcells has been at NY Giants , New England , Dallas , NY Jets , and Miami I believe.

Give me a reason

I know he did his stint at Dallas, but deep down Parcells is an East Coast guy. He’s much older now and doesn’t want the hassle and workload of running another team. No, I don’t know anything that you or other’s don’t, but it just seems obvious to me.

Do we need a good, experienced GM? Absofreakinlutely! I just don’t think it would ever be Parcells.

I think the bigger issue with the alphonso Smith Pick is what we gave up to get him

We could of had any one of the following players:

Earl Thomas – S (Would likely be starting)
Mike Iupati – Has been great for SF
Maurkice Pouncey – Again a great Center for Pittsburgh

That is what kills me, we gave up a hell of alot for nothing

patience my friend

Tebow has every bit of a chance to be as good, or much better, than those players you mentioned. Don’t believe the negative hype. There are a lot of negative agendas against Tebow. His intangibles alone, come around once a decade. Add on his freak physical skills to that, and you have a rarity.

True Broncoman

I do think that Joe Walton has played pretty decent for a Rookie and reminds me of Tom Nalen.

Earl Thomas would have been great though.

McDaniels has proven terrible at talent evaluation.

Ayers is going to be around for awhile

The guy plays hard and does his job well. He isn’t Doom so don’t expect him to put up stats like Doom. He was a bright light at the beginning of the season on defense and our defense suffered from his injury (yes I’m talking about Ayers here).

Still looking at a guy like LaMaar Woodley is great about Sacking the QB.

Robert Ayers doesn’t look like he has the fast twitch of Dumervil , Clay Mathews , Brian Orakpo necessary to reach the QB.

He is another player who wasn’t drafted correctly. I would have much rather had Orakpo or Matthews.

by Broncosfansd on Nov 29, 2010 5:35 PM MST reply actions

How many people do have that quick twitch ability?

Ayers is young, and when healthy, is not a mistake. You can’t win them all, but I agree we could’ve done better with a few of the other picks.

has orakpo even done anything this year??

Keep in mind he played 4-3 DE last year and is now playing 3-4 OLB so if I’m missing something here about orakpo please tell me but as I see it he’s struggling with the transition just like Ayers did.

3-13! TILL WE PROVE WE AINT!!!!!!

Good one PMoreno

His team ain’t doin squat either. We have Doom, who is 3,00 times better, in the pass rush department (I assume that Orakpo is better against the run???).

8.5 sacks

he alone has 8.5 sacks for his team, the broncos as a team have 16.0 and no one single player has more than 4.0 (haggan)

BRIAN ORAKPO, 19.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles in 27 games
ROBERT AYERS, 1.5 sacks, 0 forced fumbles in 21 games
*both came from the same draft class

by longhorn98 on Nov 29, 2010 7:08 PM MST up reply actions

that changes with Doom

if he weren’t hurt, nobody would be clamoring for Orakpo, and please don’t tell me you’d rather have him over Doom. Ayers was high on many draft boards, and many analysts, including Mike Mayock (who I love) proclaimed him as the most NFL ready DL/LB in the draft. Mayock even predicted that Ayers would take a full year to get going, and if he hadn’t missed all that time this year, I believe you’d see that progression. He was the #1 defender on Mayock’s board.

never

i never said i would rather have orakpo over dumervil, i was saying that i would rather have orakpo over ayers (fyi, i felt the same way on draft day) even when ayers was highly projected to do good and everything

BRIAN ORAKPO, 19.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles in 27 games
ROBERT AYERS, 1.5 sacks, 0 forced fumbles in 21 games
*both came from the same draft class

by longhorn98 on Nov 30, 2010 1:57 PM MST up reply actions

A healthy Moreno - 7 TD's

doesn’t seem to be either. I’d rather have TD’s than sacks, and besides, there’s no room for Orakpo with Doom here. Very rarely do teams have two elite sack artists on the same team (Indy, Pittsburgh, San Diego a few years back). If we committed to Moreno more, and our O-Line could figure out how to consistently run block, no one would be bitching.

by PaleHorse78 on Nov 29, 2010 7:02 PM MST up reply actions

I will also add

Robert Ayers was on pace to have 6 or 7 sacks by now anyway. Is Orakpo that much better? I know he’s flashier.

by PaleHorse78 on Nov 29, 2010 7:05 PM MST up reply actions

I am all for bringing in a quality GM but please not Parcells.

He will just jump ship in 2 or 3 years like he has done with his past 2 jobs. They guy can’t stay still and look at the Dolphins now. They are struggling and will continue to struggle. Parcells will not be a long term option by his own choice so I think he would be a bad decision.
