Denver Broncos News: Horse Tracks - 11/3/10

Broncos Mailbag: Team is "far away" from competing - The Denver Post
How far away do you think the Broncos are to really competing? I really thought they were close a few weeks ago when they matched up well against the Jets, but the last two weeks show me they are far away and may need to rethink some of the players they have. Both O- and D-lines are horrible, and Knowshon Moreno is not an every-down back who can carry the load. What do you think they will do the rest of the year to prepare for next year? Can we be a contender for the playoffs next year? Thanks. -- Wayne, Ohio

Kiszla: Merriman isn't old and tired - The Denver Post
So what harm could it do for the Broncos to take a long, hard look at picking up linebacker Shawne Merriman, who is on the rebound after being dumped by San Diego?

Device for D-linemen "my baby" - The Denver Post
When Wayne Nunnely's knees sent waves of pain rocketing up his legs and through his body, an idea was born. One that can now be found on peewee, middle school, high school, college and NFL practice fields from coast to coast.

International Broncos fans keep the faith - The Denver Post

NFL.com news: No replay feed influenced Steelers' failure to challenge TD call
The Steelers apparently didn't challenge a possible touchdown run by Rashard Mendenhall against the Saints on Sunday night because their assistant coaches stationed in the press box couldn't see the same replays that were viewed by the millions of fans watching on TV.

Time for Shanahan to speak up on McNabb | National Football Post
If Mike Shanahan doesn’t want Donovan McNabb to quarterback his football team, then go ahead make that call. That’s the power of being a head coach in the NFL. You get paid big money to decide the fate of your own players.

QB's still drive the bus on Sundays | National Football Post
- Peyton Manning will be the game's highest-paid player soon and Monday night that status was obvious. Yes, he outworks many, yes he is as prepared as any player ever, ya da, ya da, ya da. He makes playing NFL QB look absurdly easy and that home crowd in Indy acts like they're watching golf for half the game. Question for those covering Manning, including myself, "could we explain what he does without sounding like he's curing a deadly disease or managing World Peace?" Come on guys, he's only playing football.

The NFL has reinstated several players from the suspended list, including veteran defensive tackle Hollis Thomas and veteran offensive lineman Ryan Tucker, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation.

A week before he was cut, Moss exclaimed 'I'm one and done' | National Football Post

Randy Moss trade blows up in face of Brad Childress, Vikings - Don Banks - SI.com
Now that Randy Moss has twice taken to a podium in Gillette Stadium this season and essentially shot his way out of town with his mouth, maybe we're starting to realize why the ex-Patriots, ex-Vikings receiver isn't always eager to talk to the media in the first place. Moss talks, and then he walks.

Redskins have long-term concerns about Donovan McNabb - Peter King - SI.com
I think the Redskins have long-term questions about Donovan McNabb's work ethic, mechanics, footwork and ability to play well in the clutch. That's why coach Mike Shanahan has spent the past few days explaining and re-explaining why he pulled McNabb from the final minutes of Sunday's game against Detroit, with the outcome still very much in doubt.

i liked some of Klis' answers today

In particular, on the Tebow question. Josh McD believes in Tebow more than anyone. If he doesn’t think he’s ready, he’s not ready.

Perfect summation in my book.

Klis

actually sounded like a sane, rational individual.

i guess i don't get the Klis thing.

his mailbag always seems to leave me with less information than i had going into it. always bland, vanilla, with enlightening responses like, “give them time”, “they didn’t play well” or “they need to block better”.

as far as the actual query selections, you get gems like today’s “Hey, Mike. The playoffs for the Broncos are now out of the question. Would you agree? Thanks.”

sweet. great question.

I'm not sugarcoating this.

I hope Nunnely really stokes some fire into some D-Line production (not mentioning O-Line for obvious reasons)

Just reading about his ‘baby’ and how it was conceived….. Innovative dude, that Nunnely… I got his autograph at Training Camp, and talked to him for a minute or two until some guy who apparently used to live on the same street as him when he was the with Chargers’ – just started goin’ off about how they used to live next to eachother….. Wayne seems like a pretty stand up guy, who knows what he’s doing. Let’s hope We can keep him for at least a few seasons.

Overall, I’d like to see some retention of staff. It gets real old, cycling through the FO staff year to year.

I’d like to see McDaniels, Wink, Xanders, well… Everyone but the medical staff, seems like it wouldn’t hurt to get someone fresh on that end…. I’d like to see just how it all looks from the vantage point of the end of the 2011 season before I jump to any conclusions about exactly who should be hired, fired or replaced.

That's quite a long handle there, G Funk. - That's what she said.
