I know I know, there's two sides to every story. Majority of fans really dislike our first round draft picks. I on the other hand, have been very optimistic of the 4 players. I am a huge Knowshon Moreno supporter. Whenever I see the heart and determination he puts at the end of each run, I always say out loud, "I love this kid". This guy runs really hard! Which is a far cry from Shanahan's Selvin Youngs and Tatum Bells. Is that what you want? He has 7 TD's in 8 games that he has played this year!!! THAT PEOPLE, IS PRODUCTION!!! That to me is very much worth a #12 pick. And he was playing hurt for the first half. And we all see what he's been doing now that he's healthy. He just needs more experience reading holes and being patient. Sure he misses holes at times, but in time, he'll know when a hole is about to develop even though it isn't there yet. It's all part of catching up to NFL speed. There are plenty of players throughout the league that are not living up to their draft status. I work two full time jobs so I don't have the time to do the research to prove it, but it's easy to point out a couple obvious ones....Jamarcus, Heyward-Bey, Darren McFadden(He was labeled a bust up until this year and has 18 yards in the last 2 games, go figure). That's just the Raiders! Jump on...
I see soooo many fans saying we wasted our picks on Tebow when we could have gotten a DL instead. Exactly what DL was available for the same picks that Tebow was drafted with? I am a diehard Bronco fan so I do little analysis of any other team in the NFL, except maybe for the AFC West jerks so I’m not really sure of any other rookie DL’s. The only rookie DL I know of that is actually making headlines is N. Suh! Dan Williams was picked right after Tebow and he has 15 tackles 0 sacks. Or Jared Odrick who was still selected in the first round and has a run stuffing 1 tackle. One more diamond in the rought, Brian Price with 3 total tackles after being the 3rd pick in the second round. Is that what you want? Is that what everyone really missed out on when we drafted the future franchise QB of our beloved Denver Broncos?? A lot of people try to deny it, but there's "something" about Tebow. Has he once looked like a bust whenever he has played? He has been very solid from the limited time we've seen him. What warrants everyone to say he is a wasted pick? At least Tebow has accounted for 4 TD’s. As many as Jamal Charles and MORE than Steven Jackson and Ray Rice. Jamie Dukes said before the season started that if you're going to draft someone in the first round, he has to produce. Dukes didn't see how Tebow could do that and for once, had nothing stupid to say. Well, he produced more than Probowl RB's as a rookie backup QB
Robert Ayers was having a very solid season up until he hurt himself. You can't deny the impact he was making in the beginning of the season. All the Ayers haters got real quiet during the first part of the season. Only now that he's back from injury and is slow getting back into the flow, is everyone questioning his ability again. He broke a bone in his foot! He's not injury prone. Please excuse him if he didn't get adamantium injected into his bones! He doesn't have the pass rush moves yet, but that will come with experience. I too remember Mike Mayock stating that Robert Ayers will be the best defender to come out of the draft. He still has the time to do so. This kid is a powerful beast coming off the edge. Add Doom to the other side and damn, we're set at that position.
Demaryius Thomas is still coming along. Sucks that he's always hurt but hopefully he'll get over that and be a monster for the Broncos for years to come. But already, you can see 1st round ability in him. He's blazing fast for his size. Waaay faster than Brandon Marshall!...even has more TD's!!! BMarsh has only caught 58 passes out of 100 targets for an average of 11.9 ypc. Is that what you want? Demaryius is also a rookie playing on a talent rich receiving core. I would not bet against this kid already being a star in the NFL if it wasn't for Brandon Lloyd, Gaffney and Royal. Let's not forget that it took Eddie Royal a whole year to get comfortable with Josh McDaniels' complicated system.
Speaking of Josh McDaniels...Yes, his seat is made out of firework fuses, but I still believe in him. Veteran players on this team admitted that Josh has "it". These are hall of fame playes talking. They've been around the block. He is very young but he is also very organized and somewhat of a perfectionist. I like it! He has definitely changed the character of this team. And for the better. He has blown up this team and is trying to rebuild it back to a powerhouse. No one likes to admit being in the rebuilding phase. They always claim to just be reloading. But in all actuality, if you cut 30-40 players from the team that you acquired and they aren't even in the NFL anymore, you really didn't have much talent. It will be a long process. Sure, Josh has let go of a couple gems, but that happens year in year out in the NFL. Farve was not viewed as a franchise QB by the Falcons. That story is just now coming to a close after 20 years of breaking every record possible. It is always easy to point out the negative things as opposed to the positives. Just like those pocket aces that lost to a rainbow flop flush on the river. Even after you've doubled your winnings to that point. Vickerson, Hunter, Gaffney, Dawkins, etc. Joe Mays is slowly becoming my favorite front 7 player on that defense. Easy to forget that Josh traded a shell of JJ Arrington(who got cut) for Joe Mays! And Brandon Lloyd!?! BRANDON LLOYD! Wasn't this guy a practice squad player for Shanahan? What a season this guy is having. He is simply, AMAZING! You can always count on him. It's more of an anomoly when he doesn't come down with the catch. What a pick up Brandon has been. His production equals that of Hillis' in Cleveland. May not have as many TD's but don't forget that Hillis is the only option at RB, until he is spelled. There's always more than 1 receiver running routes along with TE's and RB's. For all the people that are angry over Hillis being traded, look at Brandon Lloyd. A nice little nugget, I'm sure Cleveland wishes they had a serviceable backup or even starter at QB right about now.
This post may seem like it's about the players. Actually, this is for Josh McDaniels. I am 110% behind this guy. I guess I see something in him that most fans don't. His passion and intelligence for the game are great qualities. Fans think free agents are scared to come to Denver because of how he treated BMarsh and Cutler. Could of sworn players came to Denver because of how Josh was chest bumping, fist pumping trying to win a MotherF'in game! Players want to play for that. I guess when I see Josh running around the sideline celebrating with his players, I picture what it would look like if I was the coach of the Broncos. I'm 31 so I know I would be doing the same things he's doing on the sideline. Someone here in MHR please forward this, email it, write a pen pal post card or anything and get it to Mr. Pat Bowlen. I know this coach has made is fair share of mistakes, but I get the feel that people are blatantly overlooking the very positive things he has done for this organization. Denver Broncos will regret the day they let this coach go. I dread the day we realize that these days in Denver is like Bill Belichick's days in Cleveland.....Is that what you want?
