With the game in the fourth quarter this year, the Broncos were either leading, tied or within one score of Jacksonville, Indianapolis, the New York Jets, San Francisco, St. Louis and Kansas City.
The Broncos lost them all. There were similar scenarios last season in games against Pittsburgh, Washington, Indian- apolis, Oakland and Philadelphia. That's 11 games in two years the Broncos either lost, or failed to seize, in the win-or-else fourth quarter.
McDaniels finished with an 11-17 record, so you do the math on what could have been.
I found this article to be pretty good. The last line "what could have been" will always nag at me until the Broncos return to relevancy.

If we had won 4 of those 6 games
We’d be 7-7 and in a dog fight, right down to the wire in the AFC West.

7-5 actually.

Yes that's what I meant (=

Exactly
Well stated. As stated in one media outlet today, the era of arrogance and ignorance is over in Denver. Time to move on people.

yeah i don't think we are far off really

We Are
NOT far off. Contrast us with a team like the Bears. Chicago gets all the breaks (so does Atlanta) and we were too inept to get out of our own way in many instances. The new season starts today so beat the Cards!

I'm with you, Brad
Low expectations have sort of a nice calming effect on me. I hope we play well for the new coach, the Cards have bigger even issues than we do. Think Whisenhunt regrets letting Leinart go right about now?
Take my advice, I never use it.
Or the Jets. Everyone wishes we would have hired Rex Ryan last year. Well in the last two weeks of the Jets season they played two teams who weren’t playing for anything, the Bengals and the Colts, who had pulled their starters, and they backed into the playoffs got hot and went to the AFC championship. This year they have only played like 3 or 4 teams with a winning record, and they’ve only beat one.
i liked that article, however
every time i read a denver post article i accidently scroll down to the comments section. then i realize just how depressing some people in the world are
and as well as kyle orton played this year.but
Most of those games were lost by him. He gives he is the anti-elway in that he hasnt gone on the field and won games. thats why om excited to see tebow. maybe theres a pressure dynamic at work that orton just doesnt handle well. maybe it was the way mcd acted on the sidelines that didnt inspire the guys to fight….to finish. whether we are talking about drives or plays or quarters or games, the broncos havent been finishers since 2005. even then we couldnt finish and get into the superbowl. i cant wait to see how studs changes the dynamic of the team.Kus the best chance to be in a position to win….

If Orton
was affected by McDaniels’ demeanor, that’s on KO, it’s up to players to perform, no matter what

Yeah, I understand.
You could say the player needs to perform…. that the coach needs to create the right culture…. but the mix was just off, either way.

Also, Orton suffered at times from what my inexperienced mind saw as WTF play calling.

there's two sides to THAT coin! It's up to a good coach to motivate just like a good player who leads...
We need both.

Mike Klis just now seeing that?
I’ve seen it all along with all of you and thats what pains me about this firing especially in a retooling process. We would get or play into a position where we actually had a chance to win the game and something terribly wrong would happen either on offense, defense or special teams to put us in a hole. Whether it is predictable playcalling or something else, I can’t figure it all out, but the Broncos didn’t play complimentary football to assist eachother in the stretch of most games. Now with the hearing of Champ Bailey saying pretty much the locker room is in a disaray (who is the trouble maker or makers?), it might give us some incite to what the real problem of this team really is…
I just hope Bowlen hires a head coach who can bring back continuity and comradship to this fledgling team, because all I’ve heard lately is, we have junk players with no talent and should be gone, but winning brings out a character in people to make them excel where they normally wouldn’t.
Well
bfree, if the potential exists for success (which it does) a solid coach AND GM are what we truly need and we’ll be fine.

agreed. It remains to be seen where our talent level actually is!

Is John OK?
What happened to the Horse Tracks? Terry Frei’s article from the DP on Studesville is actually good in-depth reporting. I like this guy the more I read about him.

John is probably just busy....it is the season to be busy after all. lol
I certainly know how much work goes into HT…I’d have to have an hour or hour and a half of uninterrupted time to really put out a good HT.

The Kansas game was just typical of several games in the McDaniels era. The Broncos never looked like they had enough in the bag to win the game but they never really looked out of it either. And then when it came down to the wire they were just lacking something – probably that experience of winning a close game.
I reckon if they’d have pulled the Indy or NY game out of the hat then they’d have been able to win more.
The next coach will have a good set up. They’ll have a good a offense and a below par defense that could be turned around easily with a few key playmakers. Geez, that sounds really familiar!!!!
