To DP or not to DP...

As I go through all the posts here at MHR, I've learned a few things.  To be sure, I've learned a lot more about the game of football from the contributors here.  I've learned to dig deeper into the statistics to back up my own views, but at the same time, I've learned that sometimes, statistics won't tell you the real story.  I've learned to be thoughtful in my comments and try to refrain from "kneejerking" too often.  And, sadly, I've learned that I'm part of a community that tends to have very little patience for some other forums and people who choose to comment on articles there...specifically the Denver Post.

You know what?  I am a DP'er...if that's what you want to call me.  I've posted comments on articles there.  I must be some kind of idiot, hater, lowlife, no-nothing, piece of scum.  Or at least that is the tone taken towards DP'ers here.  I see it time and time again...members commenting on how MHR is being tainted by the low-life DP'ers...how MHR is not worth participating in anymore because of that.  Or just how crappy the DP is...columnists and all.  I find the level of tolerance here to be alarmingly low.  I wonder if that is what John Bena had in mind when setting up this blog...I doubt it.  From what I understand, this blog was set up to be a positive outlet for Broncos discussion...good and bad.

I understand that some people...many in fact...do not agree with the Columnists and Beat reporters at the DP or in the nationwide press.  I also understand that others just think that most of the press  are just a bunch of idiots that do not know what they are talking about.  Ok...that is fine, but I remember when the Broncos were in the midst of their glory years...there weren't many complaints.  The national press was pretty favorable to the Broncos and we were given a lot of respect.  Heck we were considered contenders for the playoffs and Super Bowl up through Shanny's last season.  Crazy...I know...but were we complaining about the press back then?  Back to the DP...being that they are here in Denver...of course they are always going to be more critical of the Broncos.  They can't always blow sunshine.  They are doing their job...why the venom?  I really don't understand it.  And for those that choose to comment on those articles...why the venom toward them/me?  Personally, the only thing I can see wrong with the DP threads are that they are largely unmonitored...without extensive guidelines that MHR has (for the better).  Such unmonitored activity certainly has a way of escalating, but there are plenty of valid points made by posters and columnists alike there.

All that being said...I prefer to call MHR my home as far as discussions on the Broncos are concerned.  It is my first and last stop...but not my only one.
