10 Things We Should Be Talking About

1 - I really like Mike Lombardi.  But I think he's a better reporter than GM.  Otherwise he'd be in a front office somewhere.  Let's not take what he says as gold.  We tend to like writers that like us.  I used to love Clayton back in the day beacuse he reported favorably for the Broncos.  Lombardi may or may not follow the same tack, but I must ask all Broncos fans out there to read what others (who aren't die hard fans) have to say with a little gain of salt and a lot of critical thinking. Lombardi gave McD his seal of approval.  He defended him in most cases. McD getting canned hurts Lombardi's credibility and Lombardi has to say the Broncos are morons for firing him.  But he doesn't work here, live here, or have an office in anyone's front office.  Just read more critcally please.

2 - I like the idea of trading Royal.  Denver has 1 too many guys at WR.  And Royal has fans around the league (COUGHwashingtonCOUGH).

Star-divide

3 - Interesting interview with Ted Sundquist on Tuesday morning (Vic & Gary).  In a way he said (in a very veiled and political way) that he'd love to be Denver's next GM.  He essentially said that through his tenure as Denver GM, that Denver was a very respected front office and organization.  He said, and I quote "The way we went about our business was very well respected around the league".  Reading between the lines of the interview, I got a sense that the 'new regime' was not well respected in regard to the way they went about their business.  I won't speculate what that means, but it actually gives Todd Haley some credence that I never would have willingly given him.

4 - Would I be surprised if Orton's on the team next year? I wouldn't be more surprised if I woke up with my head sewn to the carpet - but don't get caught thinkning that some team is going to fall in love with Orton and pay more than a 5th or 6th rounder for him.  His contract is 1 year and isn't cheap and Kevin Kolb is out there.  Kolb has a much higher percieved upside, is younger, and is far more valuable than Orton.  Orton will go to a team that needs a 1 to 2 year guy to fill in the gaps.  Unfortunately, that's all he is.  A starter until the team finds their long term starter.

5- The Andrew Luck business is laughable.  Unless, of course, Jon Gruden's somehow named the GM.  He is a QB collector of the worst kind.  No way an incoming head coach gets himself into the nightmare that is 2 first round QBs on the same roster from 2 consecutive drafts.  That is a lose - lose proposition. Especially on a team that needs D-Line help in the best D-Line draft in years. And if that's not enough, Denver is scoring about 21 points a game on offense and giving up about 30 points per game on defense.  And the the defense has no rookies starting, like the offense does; I say that because it's obvious that Denver's offense will improve with time, but the opposite is true of the defense.

6- Denver needs a proven free agent offensive lineman.  I'd love for Denver to find a Center or a Guard and drop one of their interior linemen to the bench.  I don't think Denver has an NFL ready offensive line today.  And I don't think we should talk ourselves into having a crummy O-line because it 'needs to develop'.  You're either good or you're not.  We can bring in top tier talent in the meantime or for the lomg term.

7 - Denver's #1 priority is and should be front 7.  It all starts with the big uglies up front and Bowers is a sure thing.  But one of the most interesting decisions this offseason, to me anyways, will be whether or not Denver should shift BACK to a 4-3.  In my opinion (which counts for nothing), I think it's a no brainer.  Finding quality interior DT's is so much easier than finding an NT who is young, powerful, and can stay active for 4 quarters.  Not just that, but Dumervil cannot play pass defense.  Denver has some talented pieces and if they do draft #2, they're likley to take Bowers.  And now Denver can cut or deal Jamal Williams (who is good in the first 2 quarters and then invisible.  How does a guy as big as a VW bug disappear?)  I still think Denver needs to find a legit ILB that can play with speed in space and an OLB that can cover a TE (how many years do we have to see a 6'5" 260 guy trucking through the short secondary wide open?).  Yes, Denver has issues at S, but Denver doesn't HAVE to make a change this year.  I think Denver should franchise Champ.  Goodman is cheap and Champ can leave after 2011.  Denver can work on a safety or two and 1 more corner (Syd'Quan or Cox anyone?) next year through the draft & FA.

8 - Denver needs a legit RB to pair with Knowshon.  Don't even say LenDale.  He's SO not a sure thing.

9 - TIm Tebow is one of the most entertaining football player I've evers watched. Randy Moss was very exciting, but he only gets thrown to a few times a game.  Deion Sanders is fun, but you had to wait for special teams plays and interceptions.  Tebow touches the ball every play and every play that he doesn't hand the ball off, there's no counting how many different things that could possibly transpire.  I know that fans and the media are just DYING to judge the sh*t out of him and make a call on what his career will look like after only 4 quarters of NFL football, but I think the only rational judgment a reasonable person can make is that he's fun to watch.  Even when he's on the sidelines barking at the defense!

10 - I am leaning towards wanting a DEFENSIVE head coach with a successful past who hires an offensive coordinator.  That'll take a ton of pressure off of the offense and offensive staff on a team that's been all offense all the time for 15 years.  And that hasn't been the case since the early to mid 1990's here.  It will also distance the head coach from the offense.  If the offense stinks, Bowlen fires the coordinator. Not the head coach.  Who do you think the best defensive minded coach available is?

Now, "talk amongst yourselves. Discuss". (In my best Linda Richman/Mike Myers voice)

Great Post!

Agree totally with everything you say. D Front 7 (and O Line for that matter) should be the team’s priority for the next 2-3 years.

Good post man...

One thing, Orton is only 20 months older than Kolb, which is not much.
Orton to Minnesota is looking good for me. Kyle would be GREAT there, go against the Bears (poetic justice???) and has weapons, O line and run game that would make him a star.
I want the best for Kyle…he is a great guy.
Arizona is another possible destination!

I think Arizona would be nuts

to not go for McNabb. He lives there and would fit in well. They need veteran presence like his. Orton will be a veteran backup at this point on most teams. SImilar to when Warner went to Arizona. Orton could win a starting job, but that won’t the ‘the plan’.

A team like Miami or Philly or Minnesota or CIncinatti or Seattle or Tennessee should be looking at Orton. I think he fits in Philly well, actually.

What a great post

That O-line comment REALLY stings. If we whiffed on Walton and/or Beadles (or Kuper by giving him a long term 2nd deal) that is yet another major set back Denver can’t afford.

I hope your wrong. Beadles looked good until the Oakland game. I have a hard time judging Walton for some reason. With ? like Rich Quinn, McBath, Ayers, D Thomas and Cox, we can’t afford two more.

Love the Lombardi stuff. Couldn’t agree more. His credibility has really take a hit after his sour grapes song and dance once McD was fired. He is also pretty invisible on NFL network (a 3rd rate channel if there was one). Like McD, Lombardi has not had a good 2010.

It pains me to hear names like Ted Sundquist and Kubiak. Time to move in another direction instead of returning to our average roots of the early and mid 2000s. Those were far from glory years. I’m afraid Bowlen and Ellis are too lazy and/or clueless to chart a new course for this franchise so they’ll continue to reach back into their old and tired bag of tricks.

well crafted post

I realy like this post and can see how well thought out it is…and even found myself thinking in “Linda Richman” voice even before the end of the post – LOL

in order, my thoughts and reactions to your post…

1. Lombardi has his moments, and as difficult as it is, I try hard to take what everyone says with a grain of salt – whether they are a media individual, former player in the media, or someone on MHR – I do like John Clayton and respect what he has to say most of the time – my favorites, however, would be Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen – btw Bill Williamson on ESPN.com is easily the WORST of them all!

2. Eddie Royal traded; I almost expect this to happen…not sure why and I really like the player, but I can certainly see it happening. Washington is a possibility but not too sure on how comfortable Bowlen would be dealing players to Shanny…

3. I would be curious to hear the interview with Sunquist…keep in mind he was a part of such dubious moves as the “Browncos” – a bunch of Cleveland cast-offs playing D-line for Denver. But I would be interested to hear what he says…I really struggle with the whole “back to the future” thinking; whether that be Sunquist, Wade Phillips, Kubiak, etc…how come nobody brings up Dan Reeves? LOL – it is just as laughable as Wade returning…

4. KO will be traded or released, but most likely traded for something between a 3rd to 5th round pick…Minn makes sense, but would not be surprised if it was someone else. He may become the modern-day version of Steve DeBerg – always one step ahead of the next franchise QB in several cities

5. Andrew Luck will not be a Bronco – plain and simple – we have the right face of the franchise in Tebow

6. disagree completely here – this young offensive line needs time to gel together; I think both Beadles and Walton will be solid players, I love Clady and Harris – Kuper may be the weak link so perhaps someone to replace him but he is the only one I see not part of the long term equation

7. front 7 all the time!!!! we need to draft heavily here – agree 100% with you, whether we go 4-3 or stay 3-4 we need front 7 help desperately

8. I don’t know if Knowshon is the headliner or the change of pace guy…seriously, I question whether or not he is a legit #1 back in the NFL…so either way we need help at RB

9. Tebow = STUD – nuff said

10. defensive head coach – yeah I agree; perhaps Ron Rivera, perhaps Leslie Frasier, perhaps Mike Nolan – BUT, I would love to see Gruden and a solid d-coordinator as well – gonna be interesting to see what happens here and how Big John will put his stamp on the team right away…

once again, great post man!!

by Tebow-licious on Dec 23, 2010 7:41 AM MST reply actions

Actually Ted Sundquist didn't have as much to do with those moves as Shanny did. Ted was actually fired by Shanny so that just shows that the coach was his boss.

I was against Ted at first but considering he was fired by the coach who was responsible for a few bad drafts and bad personnel moves I am warming up to the idea of bringing him back.

Good post

I agree on alot of your posts.

1. I agree on that we are LOADED at WR with Rookies Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker probably going to break out next year. A 3rd Round Pick for Eddie Royal from Carolina or Washington would be great. Especially if we draft a Defensive Player with that Pick.

2. Signing a Logan Mankins or Carl Nicks would immediately elevate Denver’s Oline. I actually would want our line to look like. Ryan Clady , Logan Mankins , Joe Walton , Chris Kuper , Zane Beadles. I like Ryan Harris but he is injured all the time and it makes me worry about giving him a long term extension.

3. Defensive Coach is a must. Someone who can command some discipline.

I don’t agree on Safety – We need atleast 1 new Safety in 2011. Dawkins is probably going to retire. Renaldo Hill is below average. McBath is decent when not injured. Bruton is special team player only.

I also think that Kyle Orton is the starting QB next year. He is worlds better than Tebow.

I would rather have Royal than Gaffney..

Royal has the YAC threat plus he is younger and has more potential.. What slot receiver is going to do better then Royal in our system? also why isn’t Royal back to returning Kickoffs and Punt returns now that he is rarely used in our system?

by broncos909 on Dec 23, 2010 8:49 AM MST reply actions

This...

Not sure why everyone wants to lose Royal. He brings a skill set that our other WRs don’t possess. We have two big guys outside in Lloyd and DT, Royal is our quick slot guy, and Decker will be our possession receiver. I agree Gaffney looks like the odd man out at this point.

Agree

Eddie is young and has upside. Gaff is at the top of his career and will not get any better.

by si_ice on Dec 25, 2010 2:09 PM MST up reply actions

I agree with most of this

2—yes we are deep at WR, so why get rid of Royal, who is young? Lloyd is going to be 30 next year, and Gaffney as well. I’m excited about Decker and Thomas, but I think Royal should be in the future plans. Just my opinion.

4—I think Orton brings more value than people think. His salary of 8.8 million next year is not even top 16 in the NFL. This year, the cost roughly for the average of the top ten QB’s in the NFL was roughly 16.4 million. Orton is about half of that. An NFL team has to be thinking if they can maybe draft a young QB and let him develop behind Orton, or something of the like, that he is worth a 3rd or 4th round choice. Maybe even both. He might not be a franchise quarterback, but he will and should be starting in the NFL next year, and it won’t be for us.

5—I am sick of the Andrew Luck talk also.

I agree with you Sayre on point #2...Keep Royal and let Gaffney go.

Point # 5 is intriguing at least to me and the is an unknown factor we must look at before we say Luck would be a bad pick or not. We may get a new OC/HC that doesn’t care for Tebow’s style. I do and so do a lot of other people around here, but we don’t head coach in the NFL either. Orton sure as hell isn’t the answer after all the monkey bites we had to endure with amorous posts about him!

The Eddie Royal comment is gold.

For all the Orton/Champ/name your vet trade talks, he’s the one with real trade value in the sense that you’ll have more teams that might want his services and you won’t be tied down by his age (pre-prime of his career, contract friendly, etc). The real question is how our front office handles trades going forward. Do we think in terms of this year’s draft only or try and go the Patriots/Eagles route and stock pile future picks? For the teams that seem like good fits (Washington, Carolina), are we looking to acquire players in return since they don’t have a lot of picks to offer (esp, Wash)? And if so, who from those rosters could we get (maybe Chris Cooley)?

Despair: It's always darkest just before it goes pitch black.

by bcfunk on Dec 23, 2010 9:27 AM MST reply actions

agreed

I think Royal is a legitimate trade. I love the kid – but Decker is a slot receiver as well with a better frame and probably a little more gifted. We are extremely talented at this position, so trading royal for some value elsewhere wouldn’t hurt

Why trade Royal?

Are people serious with this nonsense? He is young, can play both in the slot, on the outside and return punts and kicks. Other than Lloyd he is far and away our best WR. While I agree that we are loaded at WR, Royal and Lloyd are the untouchables. Trade away Gaffney…I dont care if we get a 6th rounder…just dont touch Royal.

by Da1Truth on Dec 24, 2010 7:50 AM MST up reply actions

My 2 cents

1. No opinion one way or the other

2. I’d trade Royal for a 2nd or better only. He’s too dangerous to go for less than that. I’d let Gaffney go first for sure.

3. Not excited by this…Ted didn’t do much other than say yes to everything Shanny wanted. I’d pass and look for someone better.

4. Eh…depends on if we can get value for him. I agree Minn is a good place for him to land, but will they give us a good enough draft pick and swallow his contract?

5. Laughable is your point. I can totally see us picking up Luck if we can trade Tebow. Let’s just see what position we draft in first and then figure out what we want to do…and let’s see what Tebow does in the last couple of games…though if Tebow is looking good and we have the 1st, I’d love to see us trade back and get some more picks out of it.

6. There is definitely a problem on the O-line but I disagree about them being busts all together. Linemen do need time to learn and grow. Beadles and Walton need time. The rest are solid in my opinion.

7. Yes the front 7 should be the focus, but no switching to a 4 – 3 isn’t as easy as comparing DTs to NTs. Yeah, you can get DTs easier, but you CAN’T get a dominant MLB as easy. There are gives and takes to both. If 4 – 3 was so much better no one would be running the 3 – 4. Oh yeah, and Doom did fine WHEN he was asked to drop back. He did much better than some of our other LBs do currently.

8. I agree…and while Lendale isn’t a sure thing, he’s a keeper to me…he has the power running covered…we need a faster guy now.

9. There are tons of entertaining players out there…you are just biased with Timmay love. I do agree he’s fun to watch…much more interesting than Orton. But I don’t care about interesting, I care about winning….

10. I agree with the need to focus on defense. I don’t think the HC needs to be a defensive guru though…I’m sticking with Kubes as HC and Phillips as DC with Phillips having reign over the defensive side.

I think we disagree on what value Orton & Royal have

I don’t think Royal gets us better than a 4th or so. I also think Orton’s gone one way or the other. Denver shouldn’t have paid him when they did, but I don’t know the terms of the contract very well. Maybe Denver can get out for less if he’s cut this year or is a healthy scratch. I don’t think there’s any way Orton’s on the roster in ’11. The FO and incoming HC will avoid drama like the plague.

Beadles & Walton need time, but do they deserve it? To the naked eye, Walton gets crushed a lot and Beadles and Kuper do too, but not as much. I’m not a paid talent evaluator, but hopefully we can get a new set of eyes on this group, make some judgement calls and get somebody who’s a sure thing in here at one of the interior positions.

I’m not advocating for Sundquist at all, I just though it was a telling interview. Actually – there was an Outside the Lines segment yesterday that Sundquist, Kordell Stewart, and Brandon Crystal (local radio guy) were the panel on with Bob Ley. They talked Tebow, Tebow’s chances at being a long term starter, and Tebow’s affect on the incoming HC hire. I only caught the last 5 minutes, so if anyone can find the link, please post it!

And I decided to stop kidding myself with Orton. It sounds like you ‘want to win’ but regardless of what prism you view the Broncos in (I was never a Tebow guy and I’m not sold on him yet – so thusly not ‘baised’ as you assume), Orton’s not very good. EVen with the Vikes or someone, I still think he’s in the bottom 1/3rd of starters in the NFL., but that’s just me. McD did an unreal job with the way he set up the offense, the PA game, and had the WRs do their routes. But Orton still needs 9 out of 10 things to go right for him to be successful. The real Kyle Orton is somewhere in between the KC games this year. He’s not a mad bomber (like the game in Denver), but he’s also not Steve Tensi (like the game in KC). We don’t have to settle for an ‘okay’ QB. I want a special player as our QB. And as someone said in the OTL segment on Tebow: like it or not, Denver is and will always be a QB town. They want a great QB and they won’t settle for anything else. Couldn’t be more true.

I dislike the idea of Kubes as HC. I’d like the idea if it was OC though. He has some fabulous talent in Houston and he put together a team reminiscent of the 2001-2008 Broncos. A decent offense, but small and they routinely get beat up on by physical teams and an awful defense that can’t stop anybody that’s undersized as well. Denver would really dissapoint me if they went down that all too familiar road.

Not saying your wrong, but I got this from the DP and ESPN.

“Orton was tendered as a restricted free agent this year, his contract is now for two years at $11.4 million, of which $8.1 million is guaranteed. His salary in 2011 will be $8.8 million”

Don’t know how much of that $8.8 million is guaranteed, but $2.8MM seems low. Do you have a source?

Tim Tebow > Kyle Orton

by McGeorge on Dec 23, 2010 2:21 PM MST up reply actions

It was 5.5 is what basically everyone said when the deal was done . The 2.8 was his tender that he signed which I would suspect had to be included in the deal to get around the crazy RFA signing rules this offseason

So 2.8 for this season

5.5 guaranteed next season

a bonus of some kind to make up the other 3.1

2.8
5.5
3.1

=

11.4

Among starting Qbs that money is pretty low but with the lockout looming I dont see a trade happening within the 3-4 week window .I see a release with the Broncos only being on the hook for a part of that 5.5 which is small change in the NFl.

I dont agree with

Trading Royal. We need to keep quality characters on our team. He has a strong work ethic and hasnt been used properly. In the couple of games that he was featured this year he has really shined. IMO we can keep our current wr corps and trade during TC to a team that is hurting. Orton will be traded his value is currently at its highest. Im guessing a 4th rounder. As far as a defensive minded coach i like Ron Rivera. By getting Rivera we can bolster our D and make a divisional rival weaker. If we decide to go offensive minded then i think we should take a shot at Gruden. He believes in Tebow.

Nice post but...

Nice post agree on most but… I think before anything the Broncos major concern should be to bring in and change the current culture at the top reporting to Mr. Bowlen. Not a fact, [imo] but I believe Joe Ellis is part of the problem with the executive management, a guy who in less than 2 years has helped destroy the image of the Broncos. Hence the reason he was the one explaining the firing of Josh McDaniels. Ellis over delegated responsibility to McD, Ellis was given way too much power and leeway he needs to be replaced or concenstrate on being the COO and run the business side only. Ellis had no previous experience in Football Operations and it shows. [shame on Mr. Bowlen].

Mr. Bowlen must hire an experienced and professional to restructure the Front Office. Who has the respect and appeal to attract and hire the right GM and HC to restore the lost image of the Denver Broncos. A lead person like a Bill Parcell who knows how to organize football operations, or someone like him – maybe even including John Elway.

Now, your 10 things we should be discussing;

#2. Completely disagree on trading one of the few PLAY-MAKERS left on the team. Royal’s main problem being over used on Special Teams. I would only use him on Punt or KO’s if the game was on the line. Use him more in the slot 100% of the time he will eventually replace Jabbar Gaffney as soon as next season IMO.

#4. NO on Kevin Kolb better to draft or bring in new blood as a rookie to learn the system behind Tebow and to push Brady Quinn.

BTW: I’d hire Alex Gibbs as a consultant to evaluate the Broncos O-line during the off season.

I agree with everything but #6 and #2

All in all a great post. I disagree with #2 only because I don’t think we’d get hardly any value for Royal. I tend to think he’s one of the more overrated players on this team – and most people outside Denver don’t think he’s any better than a replacement level WR (in other words, we’re getting no better than a 6th rounder for him IMO).

I disagree with #6 because I don’t see much evidence that we actually have a bad O-Line. Clady, Harris, and Kuper have all been fine. Clady and Harris struggled early on, but as the season went on they got more healthy and were much better. Kuper is an above average guard. Walton and Beadles both played well for rookies, and those two WILL get better together. Keep in mind that O-Lines DO get better together as time goes (especially when 2 are rookies), and these 5 lineman have only been playing together for 5-6 weeks. This is actually one of our better units (not saying much at all), though Kyle Orton often made them look worse than they are.

Clady has not been fine. He has still not regained his pre injury form and is consistently getting beat.

I am hoping next year he’ll be fully recovered and back to his pro bowl self

two cents

1. Don’t know enough about Lombardi to have an opinion either way. I will say this – If public and league image is a concern how can a team turn to reporter to right this ship? Reporter named Broncos GM would generate not only laughter, but perhaps even a bit of pity?

2. Considering the injuries NFL teams endure yearly – including Royal – I’m of the opinion depth at WR is more important than another draft pick. Royal, when healthy, has Welker/Stokely written all over him, but I guess Decker does too – just tougher.

3. Don’t know enough about Sundquist to have an opinion either way. I like the idea of being well respected around the league again. Let us lead. No more following.

4. Again, like Royal, if we trade Orton we lose depth. With Tebow’s style of play it comforts me to know Orton would be available. As you mentioned Orton can fill in the gaps. Only in our case it would not be for one to two years, but one or two games if Tebow is injured. With that said, I’d have a hard time not considering a second rounder for him. Look at what the Chargers got for Whitehurst last year. The value of QB’s cannot be undervalued.

5. Definitely agree that drafting Luck is a lose-lose proposition. If this is indeed the best D-line draft in years we must take advantage of this.

6. Of course we need better depth. However, I am confident that Clady, Beadles, Walton, Kuper, and Harris could be a force to reckon with once they are allowed to coalesce – barring injuries of course. We need depth, not necessarily a starter.

7. Love me some big uglies. I’m not going to debate schemes. What I do want is a defensive coordinator to maximize the talent we have regardless of what scheme we run. I know it’s been mentioned, but if we are somehow able to keep Champ hasn’t it been rumored that he may switch to safety? Either way I think we all agree that we need talent and depth everywhere on defense. The trick is maximizing what we end up with.

8. Didn’t realize how hard it would be to leave that dead horse alone. Hillis. Torain. Oops. But yes, in a running back by committee league and injury prone position, Moreno could use a partner in crime.

9. Really think you hit the nail on the head here. Regardless of all the superlatives Tebow is certainly entertaining. Tebow does demonstrate what it is supposed to mean to be a football player. Plus, all the guy does is win at every level. The upside is tremendous and worth the risk in my humble opinion.

10. What I like here is that a Plan A AND Plan B exist. I’ll let the front office do their thing, but for jeebas sake have a backup plan or two or three! Please!

Instead of trading Royal...

…why not bulk up Decker, and turn him into a Dustin Keller-type TE? Decker is already big dude, and I know we all love the idea of Decker turning into Eddie Mac, Vers. 2.0…
but maybe we stop trading talented players away?
Eddie Royal isn’t Wes Welker, but he is great for that Y slot position. The deal-breaker is he is also a game-changer at Punt Returner, and is our most reliable Kickoff Returner.

I don’t want to see Royal go anywhere, and imagine the uproar from our already-fickle fanbase if we traded another favorite.

Talking about trading Eddie Royal is just asking to turn into Peyton Hillis 2011.

Bowlen prefers offensive-minded head coaches. He likes offensive minds because he likes his team to have star power at quarterback. He's not a stout-defense/run-the-ball kind of owner. It's a sound, core philosophy. Football franchises are about winning, first, but they're also about entertainment.

How about we just keep Decker as a WR and he takes over Gaffs spot opposite Lloyd/Thomas

and we just get a big TE in FA like Owen Daniels or Mercedes Lewis?

Although Royal must stay here. Rather See DT get sent out and Decker more balls.

NO way! In my opinion, his upside is unlimited.

He will be one of the best WR in the NFL in 2 years IMO. He has good relationship with Tebow as well. I would be sending Gaffney out.

Rarely best WR's in the league win championships

Decker has a good relationship with Tebow as well, w/o DT we are fine at WR, Gaff isn’t worth much in trade.

but team players do and DT seems to be a team player all the way. It is rare for a WR who has the potential to be so great to also be a team player.

Larry Fitzgerald fits this mold as well. Who wouldn’t want a player like him on their team?

dont get me wrong I love the talent.

If we are talking about moving a WR, he may have the most value….probably not because he cant stay on the field. Talking about teams guys? you can say that about the entire WR corps; we are very fortunate for sure.

I keep trying to convince myself that Gruden is not out of the realm of possibilities

I keep hearing the argument that he’s happy with the job he’s doing, but I take that a different way than most. What that says to me is he’s a man who will take less money if there is a position he really wants. And in my eyes, there couldn’t be a more appealing coaching position to him. Three big name QBs, with one being the guy he believed in enough to help coach up to the draft. Great receivers, a young O-line and a solid running back. I fully believe he could be the one to fix our defense and have us in the playoffs in a couple years, which considering our record (the only thing history looks at) will be a great boost for his legacy. Add all that up to getting to face the Raiders twice a year and things could be looking very peachy.

None of us go out and play for stats. You just do whatever you can to help the team out. -- Eddie Royal

good stuff

Except I wouldn’t want to trade Eddie. Even if he ends up playing special teams, he is too valuable as a return specialist as well as being a threat in the open field if he gets the ball in his hands on offense. We don’t have many of those guys, if any other. Well, there’s Tebow, but I don’t think he has the wheels that Eddie has.

Front seven should certainly be addressed early and often. Our offense is only going to get better from here on out (hopefully).

We have deprived the defense of young, superstar quality players for far too long and it’s my opinion that this is the reason more than any other for our mediocrity over the last decade, and especially recently.

With the monumental collapse of last season and games this year where we have given up far, far too many points, it doesn’t take much to figure out what needs fixing the most on our team.

Our o-line is pretty solid when all five guys are in their proper spots and executing well, as evidenced by the improvement in the ground game from the middle portion of the season up until recently. I’m not against bringing an o-lineman in, but not at the cost of using that same money on a proven defender of any variety.
