Watching the Music City Bowl and there are two defensive prospects on the field, both from North Carolina, whom I would like to see the Broncos draft. Quan Sturdivant is likely the top ILB in the upcoming draft and Deunta Williams is the top safety prospect. Unfortunately Williams suffered a serious leg injury and needed to be carted off the field. I truly feel sorry for the kid as the injury might have cost him a million dollars since he was expected by some to be drafted in the latter part of the 1st round.
It appears to be a broken bone, much easier to heal from than a ligament. The injury will likely cost Williams to slide in the draft. Fortunately for Broncos fans we might be in position to draft Williams with one of our 3rd round picks (assuming we can get an additional 3rd by trading Orton).
Williams is a stud. He is a converted receiver (great hands) who stands at 6'2" and weighs 220lbs. He can play in the box, doesnt shy away from contact and is always around the ball.
I hope the best for Williams and would like to see someone take a flier on him in the first round. That being said, if he slips, I hope the Broncos are the team that grabs him.
If we do target a safety in the 3rd, we can address one of our offensive needs in the 2nd. I wouldn't mind going after a stud RB (Micheal Leshour from Illinois) or TE (Kyle Rudolph) if available especially if they feel comfortable getting Williams in the 3rd.
I wish Williams the best...hopefully in blue and orange.
