New MHR Contributor - Hello, My Name Is: Ernesto J. Ruiz
Good morning, Mile High Report! It is my pleasure to address you all today, for the very first time, as a staff writer for our beloved MHR. As some of you already know, I have been a member of this site for some time now – it was the three-year anniversary of my signing up earlier this month, actually – and it has been a truly wonderful journey that has just now taken this exciting, new turn. Before I integrate myself into the regular publishing rotation, however, I thought it would be appropriate to formally introduce myself once more. Please join me below the fold and be sure to comment on this post so that we may get to know each other better!
My name is Ernesto J. Ruiz and I am currently a 26-year-old undergraduate in the history department at the University of Florida. I was born in Puerto Rico and grew up in Costa Rica, but I don’t much look or sound the part. That rather unique upbringing, however, did free me from the typical regional and/or familial ties that often predetermine sports allegiances for most fans, a fact that allowed me to serendipitously end up rooting for disparate, wildly successful teams.
I was fortunate enough, for instance, to begin following the NFL via the MST feed of CBS just in time to watch plenty of games featuring a peeking Broncos team. Back then, a young Mastermind joined some veteran gunslinger in a #7 jersey and they eventually led their beleaguered franchise to professional football’s “Promised Land”, the doorstep of which it had previously been turned back from time and time again. Cheering for the Denver Broncos, through the good times and the bad, has only become easier for me. By the way, I happily credit this site for helping to make me a more complete fan of my team than I ever even thought possible.
As for my blogging credentials, I come to you as nothing more than an informed and enthusiastic fan with [hopefully] articulately expressed, thoughtful opinions that I am willing to share publically as often as possible. I hope that you find what I have to add interesting and useful, reflecting those special qualities that caught my eye years ago and have kept me here ever since.
Remember: we, the staff of Mile High Report, are here at your service. I will always be beholden to you as my audience and peers, so never hesitate to reach out to me for whatever reason. And so, without further ado, I’d like to lead us in a long distance toast of sorts before I sign off: here’s to the good old days, my friends, and the better days to come. Go Broncos!

Wow, congratulations ej!!
Great to see your name on the venerable roster of coaches that has made MHR what it is! I’m really looking forward to reading what you have to give us, amigo — thanks for taking up the challenge!
"All we're trying to do is win the *********** game!" -- Josh MF McDaniels tearing into his offensive line after three false starts in the red zone. The tirade turned the tide of the game, and the Broncos dominated from that point on.
Good luck!

MHR free agency is moving along pretty smoothly, from the looks of it. We are signing more staff members as the days go by. Way to step up to the responsibility, EJ. I’ve really enjoyed your contributions as just a member and I’m looking forward to your contributions as a staffer, now.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

In the past I believe that you have written about the draft
Will you continue in that vein, pick up a new series that interests you, or just write about whatever strikes you at the moment?
Thanks, EJ, I’m glad that you are a staff member and look forward to your contributions

Topics.
Up until the draft, I’ll likely focus on that. Once that’s over (and thoroughly reviewed) I’ll move on to what I’ll likely do throughout the regular season, though that’s kind of up in the air at the moment. Any suggestions are, as always, greatly appreciated: what can I helped MHR provide further that you may want more of?

Whatever you feel comfortable with
The only thing I’d like to see is a continuation of Bears articles that helped us get to know some of our draftees last year. That was a hallmark of Docs though and can understand if no one wants to pick that up.
In the end I just think that you should write about whatever you are passionate about. If you’re not in to it, soon it would become a chore and that wouldn’t benefit anyone.
I think that it is great that you are staff now and I look forward to whatever insight you can provide on the Broncos.
Thanks, EJ.

Hmmm...
That was a great series and, while I can’t promise its return or – even if that happens – an equivalent finished product, I will keep that in mind. I’m very into college football and the draft, so it would be natural that I could do something like what you are hoping for. Time will tell, but I do thank you for the suggestion and further words of encouragement!

History.
Studying history has helped me hone several general skills, such as: putting everything in its proper context, maintaining a healthy emotional distance from the subject and keeping an open mind. I feel all of those (and others that I’m blanking on right now) should aid in my discussing the Broncos here and I hope you enjoy it!

You sound plenty articulate to make it as a writer. I anticipate the contents of your contributions will be worthy of your ability to formulate them. I will strive to read them with an open mind not tainted by a perception of your judgment (stemming from your choice of a major).
Cool.

It is a warm day in my heart that you are now a staff member EJ and congratulations my friend.
As I wrote a comment in Brians inaugaration speech I was thinking back to all of the insightful posts over the past year from the staff writers and there was a huge void when three of them decided to part ways for unbeknownst reasons. They will be sadly missed in their intelligent articles and posts. Huge shoes to fill and probably won’t ever be, but you and Brian can walk along side of the tracks that they have left and continue their journey…Even further than they went to keep this site the best in the SBN. Thanks EJ and Brian for taking the bull by the horns and leading US on…
Cheers To That!
The staff here at MHR has always been top-notch and it has been sad to watch writers go their own way, but the show does go on and their blueprint continues to inspire others to follow them. I could not dream of filling their shows, but I do hope that my work in some way lives up to the lofty standards they set.
