New MHR Contributor - Long Time Bronco Fan, More Recent MHR Member: Brian Shrout
Good morning Broncomaniacs (or good afternoon or evening depending on where you live). It is exciting for me to be able to greet you all as the sun is coming up (in LA anyway) as a first time staff member here at MHR. During the relatively short time that I've been a member of MHR, reading the posts & comments here has become a regular part of my daily routine. Like EJ, I thought it might be appropriate to let you know a bit about myself and why I see MHR as such a great site. After the jump, if you feel inclined, share a bit or your story not only with me, but with all of our members.
I grew up in the midwest, but did not have a hometown football team to root for until my parents moved to Denver in 1969. Since then, I have been an avid Broncos fan. Like many here, I have known the pain of losing seasons, guzzled Orange Crush as I watched the Orange Crush defense shut down other teams, and screamed myself hoarse during our first Super Bowl win. I followed the team from elementary school in Denver, through college in Oklahoma and Texas, converted my wife to Broncos fandom and raised two wonderful daughters to cheer the Orange and Blue. Talking football at MHR is a good outlet for me after a long day of teaching middle school students who have been diagnosed as emotionally disturbed.Although I've been a Broncos fan for a very long time (it makes me feel too old to come right out and say how many years ;-p), I've only been a member of MHR for just under a year. I found the site while trying to find information on what happened with Jay Cutler. I was delighted to find a place where I could ask my questions and actually receive answers, as opposed to getting flamed for daring to question the hatred that others had for what was going on. This has been a great place to share, learn and grow as a Broncos fan. My thanks goes out to each and every member and staff writer here -- including all of those with whom I've disagreed in the last year. It is my firm belief that every member has something he/she can teach me, and I strive to do the same in return.
I had not done much with blogging prior to coming to this site, but I loved to talk football. Now I have a great new community with which to discuss all things Broncos. Most of my co-workers and friends in LA tend to be fans of teams like the 49er's, Green Bay (go figure) and *gag* the Raiders or the Chargers. The writing by the members here is excellent and has challenged me to work to improve what I produce and present my position with greater clarity.
As a staff member, I will try to continue the tradition of excellence shown by the staff that has gone before me. I welcome continued interaction with any and all of our members. Feel free to drop me an email or ask questions in a thread if there's something I can help you with. As it says at the top of our homepage: MHR is by fans, for fans. Ultimately we are not staff and members, we are all simply fans of the Denver Broncos.
Go Broncos.

Only if you do, BS.
I still want those hard hitting insights that you consistently bring to the table. I’m sure you won’t have any problem with that. Just do what you do.

This site has always benefited for your well reasoned, high effort contributions that are always tinged with natural humility and diplomacy. You seemed a natural choice to me, and I’m glad John agreed.

Question: Will you and EJ be changing your display names to your real names like the other staffers?

It couldn't have happened to a nicer person
I share the similarities of fandom, blogging, and joining this site with you Brian. If you will be too busy for out UFR team, I suppose I will have to do some recruiting to do myself. Lol.
Congratulations my friend.

I don’t get to do UFR anymore? :(
JK, I plan to jump in on UFR, but if we can recruit some additional people that’d be great too

Congratulations on becoming a staffer Brian.
I am a new member, but have conversed with you a time or two. You make a wonderful contribution in this turnover of staff. I was sure you were BroncoBrad from another site I frequent. Now that I find out your name is Brian I guess I was mistaken.

I know you will do well. Anyone with the self confidence required to state his opinion publicly in spite of the unfortunate initials your parents saddled you with, is bound to succeed.
Those initials almost got me a detention in junior school

I predict you will be a great writer for MHR but,
I will have to defer to all the you others for the draft and trade prediction work…Way too many moving parts for me to be able to predict much of anything…I’ll just stick to my gut feeling that Mr. Bowlen is confident (and hence, am I) in his choice(s) of Coach McDaniels and Brian Xanders (and Staff) to make good business and player decisions for our Broncos…

Congratulations Brian!!! 13-3 Baby!!!
When I found this site just after Shanahan’s firing I felt like I was home setting on the couch talking with friends around the wood stove. I never was one to peruse the message boards, because there was little or no real information there, just bickering and fighting…Jeez….I had enough of that when I was a kid at home, I don’t need that now, I’m too old for it.
It was a sad day when two of our faithful decided to quit and they will sorely be missed, for their shoes could never be filled. Their talent was unique in it’s own self and can never be captured by anyone else. I will miss that. Brian it isn’t necessary that you or Ruiz try to fill those shoes, but rather to walk along side of them, even stretching out further where no member on here has gone. Be proud and make this the best SBN site on earth! I am proud to know you two. Bill (bfree)

Great to see you stepping up to the challenge, B!
Of course, this seems like little more than a formality given all the posts and comments you’ve already contributed. ; ) Good to see your name on the staff list, compadre!
"All we're trying to do is win the *********** game!" -- Josh MF McDaniels tearing into his offensive line after three false starts in the red zone. The tirade turned the tide of the game, and the Broncos dominated from that point on.

We don’t always agree, and clearly don’t on McDaniels at this point, but I enjoy reading your analysis. We share Orange Crush heritage, those were the beginning of the really good years, but I remember the ugly Brown years as well.
Looking forward to reading your analyses.

BS Sounds So Ignominious
Thus, I shall call you Brian. In any case, we are the standard bearers of majestic Broncos content above the ignorant drivel of the MSM and the Denver Post. I carry the banner brightly in south central Utah and swiftly rush home from Church on autumn Sunday afternoons to watch my beloved Orange and blue which propitiously can be found in the SLC market virtually every week. Let’s make the MSM look like the fools they are and GO BRONCOS!!!

[Tips His Metaphorical Hat]
Congratulations, Brian! I look forward to working alongside you for the foreseeable future!
MileHighReport.com member since 02/06/07, promoted to "Position Coach" (i.e. new staff writer) on 02/16/10!
Thank you for your contributions. Salut!
Since Emmett and Doug left the staff, because of you and couple other names I could mention (sayre, sharpe, vortex, elvis, among others), there has been no shortage of material for my perusal. That, coupled with those already on the staff, my brain remains entertained, and you all continue to provoke thoughts I would have never considered on my own. While I miss those that have stepped back, I give thanks to you that have stepped forward.
I found this site around the same time as you (thank you for the link, yahoo NFL). Since I moved to Pueblo, many I know don’t follow football closely, if at all. Many football fans, here, are Raider fans. Basically, I have no one to talk football with outside of MHR. That may sound like a drag on the surface, but au contraire. I now have a link to many that know WAY more about the game, the team, the free agents and draft than I. My enjoyment and knowlege of the sport and team has grown immeasurably.
While I used to be an avid fan, and watch things as closely as was afforded me by what was available, I now have a perpetual jones to absorb the opinions and insight expressed, here, on a daily basis. URRAH!!
Go MHR!
Oh yeah
Neither you or Ernesto are “NEW” contributors. =)

The QB position is set.
Excellent news! Congrats! If a rec'd were in order, that'd work as well.
I have always enjoyed your articles and your point of view. And you always allow for discussion and other ways of looking at things. This is sort of like savoring a fine wine – we had Emmett and Doug; now we have you and EJ.
Thanks.
A mile high salute to becoming a staffer.
Congrats to you Brian. Always fun to read your posts that will now be on the front page.

Thanks Brian for trying on the shoes. I have always enjoyed your stuff.
Now get to work! Need stuff to fill this void. I’m jonesing already. Need input.

Congrats B!
The origin of our Broncos fandom is eerily similar.
I too was born the midwest, and moved to Steamboat Springs (Dad’s work required many moves) in 1970. I was in 1st grade there and that’s when I really started enjoying football. We moved to Denver in 72, and lived there for the next 6 years. My Dad was the construction manager for the shiny new McNichols Arena, and I visited him at the site often, so Mile High Stadium was always close at hand. During that time I actually had an opportunity to meet both Floyd Little, and Otis Armstrong at a team event at a local mall. I sure wish I could find those autographs now…. :(
We moved back to the midwest, and I have been here in MO for a looooong time, however my Orange and Blue fandom has never wavered. I have been through every single Super Bowl disappointment, and then the euphoria that followed, with back to back Super Bowl victories!
Looking forward to reading your stuff as I always have appreciated your fanposts and comments. :)
