Reading mock after mock after mock, I think it's time to make things simple:
a) draft NFL-ready players, dont reach
b) draft the top players from tough conferences who have played on big stages
c) draft winners
With this in mind, I see the following strategy as being sound (if available - rankings from nfldraftscout.com):
#10/#11 - Rolando McClain - ILB 6'4" 256lbs Bama (#1 ILB)
#48 - Terence Cody - NT 6'4" 370lbs Bama (#6 DT)
#80 - Mike Johnson - OG 6'6" 305lbs Bama (#3 OG)
#116 - Javier Arenas - CB/RS 5'9" 195lbs Bama (#15 CB)
#189 - Drew Davis - OT 6'7" 305lbs Bama (#21 OT)
#227 - Leigh Tiffin - K Bama (#1 K) - in case we dont sign Prater, and if we do sign Prater have him on PS and activate him when Prater gets in a slump. Did we not see how important kickers are this past year?
Sign an undrafted QB, there will be some, for those who feel we need one.
This strategy is a bit far-fetched but somehow make sense. We need a Center granted, but this a blueprint you can work from. Chris Hall C from Texas is expected to be undrafted. We could sign him.
