I had the NFL network on this morning as I drifted in and out of consciousness due to a NyQuil induced semi-lucid state, and I swear I thought I heard the announcers referring to Al Davis in the past tense, and giving all kinds of shouts out to him. It sounded like the type of commentary newscasters gush after a celebrity has died.
So I perked up for a second and rewound the DVR. It turns out Al Davis is still kicking. They were just raining accolades down on the Coach-Become-Owner who had such a huge hand in shaping the NFL, yadda yadda yadda.
That got me thinking: What would my reaction be if Al Davis perished? It'll happen to all of us. As Broncos fans, I am curious as to how classy the posts will be. I have always loved the class of the Broncos organization. With few exceptions, it has run its business with the utmost integrity. Other organizations aren't so committed to character. That commitment to class is part of what I like about Josh McDaniels. Excuse me, I mean, that commitment to MF class is what I love about Josh McDaniels. Hey, ya can't win 'em all.
In any case, I would hope we'd be sad and respectful, not for the reason that the Raiders would probably rise form obscurity without him, but because of what positive things he HAS contributed to this game.
OK. Let me have it. What are our impressions. What if that news report had been what I thought it was?
Ready, react. Maybe this s an exercise in knowing thine enemy.
