So #44 is now in the Hall of Fame. Like many other Bronco fans, can I offer him my congratulations on a most deserved election. As a Brit, my experience of out first franchise back has been restricted to the Youtube era and articles well presented by fellow MHRers, but can I add that it was not before time - although to be honest, I thought his chances had gone.
But great news on the eve of the Superbowl, and whilst I was disappointed not to see Shannon elected, my view is that had he got in this year, Floyd Little would have been on ths outside looking in. Again. It strikes me that there's no way that, after getting two Broncos in over the years, the electorate weren't about to double our representatives in one year. Politics with a small 'p' appears to be why Shannon didn't get in.
I don't buy the theories that voters viewed Sharpe as a receiver. He was, and always is, a TE. Given his stats, his rings with two different franchises, and his national profile will see him elected in the next two years I would imagine.
Are we on the cusp of a Broncos' avalanche of players into Canton? Players like Gradishar, Mecklenburg, Louis Wright, Dennis Smith, Steve Atwater, Jason Elam, and coaches like Dan Reeves (is he already in?) may all have more of a fighting chance than they had in previous years.
Let's hope we get a few more enshrinees over the next few years, and that the current team offers up a few more in the years to come.
Enjoy the Superbowl everyone.
