Mike Mayocks take on a couple of DT's.
Mike Mayock who I really like as a NFL analyst discussed his top Defensive Lineman.
http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-network-total-access/09000d5d8164db44/Mayock-top-5-DT
Some of the things I thought were interesting.
1. He had Gerald McCoy rated higher than Suh because he thinks he is faster while Suh was stronger.
2. This one is very interesting - Cam Thomas - NT/DE North Carolina - He thinks that Cam Thomas really shined at the Senior Bowl and could play NT or DE in a 3-4 Defense. If this is the case I think this elevates him to the 2nd Round Range and at 6'4" 330lbs would give some SIZE for the DLine.
3. Mike Mayock also went on to say that Tyson Alualu was better off on a 4-3 Team and wasn't a good 3-4 DE prospect. Saying he was miscast on Cal's Defense as a DE. He is smaller DT kind of player.

Cam Thomas is very interesting though. Maybe Mike Iupati in 1st / Cam Thomas in 2nd????
Mike Iupati - 6'5" 325lbs - Guard - would add some great size to Denver's Oline.
Cam Thomas - 6'4" 330lbs - NT or DE where I think we need more help.
Interesting????

I don't
like hearing Cam Thomas is rising up on boards. He’s supposed to be our 4th round pick.

When Mayock talks...
…I tend to listen. Too bad he’s an NFLn hack.

There will be a lot of changes from now to the draft.
Some players move up some down. Great post Bfsd.
I like
Iupati in rd. 1, Thomas (if available) or Pouncey in Rd. 2 sound sweet to me.
Make those miracles happen - Jon Keyworth
Alualu
could play DT in a 4-3 scheme, as he did when he first entered Cal, but when they switched to a 3-4 defense, Alualu shone, earning all-Pac 10 honors the past two years. Given his consistent level of play, high motor, experience as a 3-4 DE and strong Senior Bowl week showing, I think he’s a lock to go in the 2nd round.
I am on the Cam Thomas band wagon

Cam Thomas at 6’4" 332lbs would bring some much neeede size to Denver’s Dline and his ability to play NT and DE raises his value and he will most likely be drafted in the 2nd Round now.
Tyson Alaulu is a smaller DT who isn’t a good fit for a 3-4 Team. He has a excellent motor and will be very good in a 4-3 team. If you listen to Mayock’s comments on him – he was miscast on Cal’s 3-4 defense and won’t play 3-4 DE in the NFL.
We’ll agree to disagree on Alualu. I believe production is production. And with the high demand for 3-4 DE’s, I’m pretty certain he’ll be drafted as a 5-tech, although he does have the versatility to play DT in a 4-3 scheme.

Did you listen to Mayock? Check out most draft sites – Alualu going to 4-3 team. Did you watch the Senior Bowl ?? His only tackle(a Sack) was playing inside at DT.
In the 3-4 DE’s are suppose to be Road Blocks that are Big guys who tie up players and allow the LB’s to clean up. Alualu is a smaller player who doesn’t have the base to play the 5 technique.
Alualu has comparable size to a number of guys playing 3-4 DE in the NFL (i.e. Kenny Peterson). His build and strength (he is Samoan, after all) plus his technique and high motor make him more effective than many guys taller or heavier than he. If he plays 4-3 DT in the NFL, it won’t be because he can’t play 3-4 DE — it’ll just be the scheme he’s drafted into.
