Mock of Boredom
Well now that the Superbowl is done the next football event is none other than the 2010 NFL Draft. Optimism rides high for every fan for these next few months as they dream of a killer draft that resembles the 1974 Steelers draft where they landed four future hall of famers. Now I'm not that greedy but still now is the time where everyone has high hopes for the future of their team by hitting the motherload in the draft and thats why i do stupid/silly mock drafts. Anywho, this is just a draft I quickly threw together out of boredom. I know much of this is useless because we have no idea who we are going to sign in free agency but like I said I was bored and it's fun to mock and I need something to look forward to after that season end. So by all means mock away.
Trades: Broncos 10th overall pick traded to Cincinnati for 1st round, 21st overall and 2nd round, 53rd overall.
Peyton Hillis traded to the Washington Redskins for 5th round, 131st overall.
Tony Sheffler traded to the Arizona Cardinals for 3rd round, 89th overall.
Draft:
First round 21st overall (via Cinci) The Denver Broncos select: OG Mike Iupati, Idaho
Is it just me or is Iupati being a little overhyped? Don't get me wrong he is the best guard ini the draft and has a good shot at being very good but I think that him being drafted in the top 20 is a reach. A good week at Senior Bowl will do that. But at 21st in the draft we get good value and plug up a big hole in the O-Line.
Second round 45th overall the Denver Broncos select: OC Maurkice Pouncey, Florida
The Broncos in the first two picks get the future of their O-Line. The best center in this draft, Maurkice has very few weaknesses to his game from what I have read and could start right away for the Broncos. With him and Iupati our running game should be re energized.
Second round 53rd overall (via Cinci) The Denver Broncos select: WR Mardy Gilyard, Cincinatti
Even if Marshall does come back the Broncos could still use some help in the receiving game. just because Jabar Gaffney had a good final game doesn't mean he is an above average number two receiver. Gilyard can be that guy on the other side of the field with very explosive speed and maybe get pressure off of Marshall. Let Royal become the slot reciever and you have a very menacing wide reciever core of Marshall, Gilyard and Royal with solid veterans like Gaffeny and Stokley helping out. Not to shabby.
Third round 80th overall, The Denver Broncos select: NT Cam Thomas, North Carolina
With the Broncos missing out on Williams and Mount Cody the Broncos take the next best nose tackle. Cam Thomas had a very good senior bowl week from practice to game where he showed off his hard working motor and his ability to clog the middle for teammates rushing. Scouts say he is very good at recognizing plays and shows good athleticism. However he does need to work on his pass rushing skills. Great value if he did get to us here.
Third round 89th overall (via AZ) The Denver Broncos select: DE Arthur Jones, Syracuse
Very talented player but has had some injury problems and missed the last four games of this season. Still a very talented and high ceiling player who could turn into a regular starter.
Fourth round 111th overall The Denver Broncos select: RB LaGarrette Blount, Oregon
Blount has very nice quickness and has the ability to break off a long run which wasn't Morenos strongest area. Adding him gives the Broncos a powerful three headed running attack of Moreno, Buckhalter, Blount. Sounds good to me.
Fifth round 131st overall (via WAS) The Denver Broncos select: TE Andrew Quarless, Penn State
One of my favorite sleepers in the draft. he has the athletic skill set of the top tight ends in this draft and is only down this far because of his criminal past. He got in trouble for two DUIs and marijuana found in his shared apartment with a friend. Now you can't turn a blind eye to that but his athletic talent make him worth taking the risk on. He's got great hands, runs a 4.59 40, big target and can be a downfield threat.
Sixth round 173rd overall The Denver Broncos select: CB Crezdon Butler, Clemson
Butler is another guy with big upside. He has lots of strengths and few weaknesses to his game. He is a very physical corner who jams WR's at the line will. A good tackler, athletic, solid hands and ball skills and has good closing speed. He does need to add muscle and work on his backpedal but he seems like a good value pick in the 6th round.
Seventh round 204th overall The Denver Broncos select: ILB Matt Mayberry, Indiana
There is a lot to like about Mayberry, he's got lots of heart, hard work, leadership skills and passion. He ran a 4,49 - 40, had 108 tackles and is solid zone coverage ILB. He is a bit small at 237 pounds but that can be easily fixed.
Well thats my boredom mock. I know there are some stretches in there but don't take it to serious. It's just a mock draft for fun to keep me optimistic. Who knows maybe there are four hall of famers in there.

Interesting
I could see that happening with one exception:
I’m not convinced that Hillis will be traded. Other than that, it sounds great.
We live in an age when instant gratification isn't fast enough
I dont see why people think Scheff will be traded for a 3rd
to me, a 2nd string TE is not worth that. Dont get me wrong, hes very good talent wwise, but he has too many blocking issues and that with the fact he doesnt start makes it hard to justify a 3rd for him. Kellen Winslow was traded for a 2nd, I have toruble seeing Scheff as one round behind him
Other than that, great post. One thing tho is Gilyard. NFP said he didnt do well in the Senior Bowl. But who knows how his combine will be
If 2nd string players don't have high worth,
then why did the Pistons shell out so much cas for Ben Gordon? Not comparing football to basketball, but people around this post undervalue Tony Scheffler greatly. We’re talking about one of the best receiving tight ends in the game today. He just doesn’t fit this offense because he can’t block worth crap.
If you actually look at the stats, Tony’s this past year were very comparable to that of Shockey and Winslow the years they were traded, and both of those guys’ injury history is far worse. If we don’t get a 2nd or 3rd for Scheffler, I doubt we will even trade him.

First off
Winslow was hurt for half the yr before he was traded. And before that year he had 1100+ yds. Shockey also got hurt before he got raded, but he was also a good blocker too. Cant say that for Scheff.

Love It.
The thing is, I hate mocking trades because they’re so unpredictable. That said, I’d like to learn more about this projected trade with the Bengals that you have us making: are they targeting Dez Bryant? Anyway, I think you hit big time with five of your first six picks (I’m on the fence about Gilyard) and I need to look more up on your later picks. All in all, it’s good work!
"A player who conjugates a verb in the first person singular cannot be part of the squad, he has to conjugate the verb in the first person plural. We. We want to conquer. We are going to conquer. Using the word 'I' when you're in a group makes things complicated." ~ Wanderley Luxemburgo, 1999
Good mock, you pulled "big" OG/OTs!!!!!
But please….no more TEs! Take an ILB (angerer) Instead of Gilyard, go with either Jacoby Ford or demaryus Williams? Take Cam Thomas as pick 2-b, and in the 3rd pickup either Alex Carrington or Tyson Alualu (5tech NG) to replace Peterson! That gives 2 big Oline and 3 big Dline + RB, ILB, CB, WR (wr/st) type…aka Jacoby Ford
"Attitude reflects Leadership" Hogblog...aka KSM
not a bad mock
but it doesn’t address the need for youth at CB
