I would say if you go to 104.3 the fan there are some interesting programs

Not a fan of Mike Evans and Scott Hastings (on after Jim Rome), but the guys on after (Alfred Williams and super Tool) are somewhat interesting, Williams I think has the best insight and perspective, even if you don’t agree with him.

"Me fail english, that unpossible" - Ralph Wiggum
"Duffman is thrusting in the direction of the problem" - Duffman
"Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun" - Ash from Army of Darkness
"H.I., you're young and you got your health, what you want with a job?" - Evelle from Raising Arizona
"It happens sometimes. People just explode. Natural causes." - Agent Rogersz from Repoman

104.3 The Fan

I listen to it almost exclusively, but they can get a little off topic sometimes. The afternoon shows are Scott Hastings and Mike Evans. I like it most of the time. Mike Evans is usually accused of being a McDaniels apologist. The show after is D-Mac and Alfred. . .I can’t listen to it usually. Williams annoys me, he seems a little out of touch.

by D-fence on Mar 10, 2010 9:42 AM MST reply actions

D-Mac & Evans...

have stepped up their game and Al Williams and Hastings have completely jumped the shark.

They separated those two last year like to chatty girls in grade school and it’s hurt the overall quality of programming on the Fan.

Evans paired with Sandy was a great show, albeit with some contrived arguments. D-Mac and Oren were the classic comic relief guys (stoners who love sports) and were actually a great show together but they needed to talk more sports and be a little harder hitting.

Because the Fan wanted to keep Williams & Hastings, they’ve brought down the level of professional sports talk on their station. Even worse, because the Fan is now ESPN, Mike & Mike is the feature show M-F mornings. I don’t know if there’s worse drivel anywhere on the radio ever. Also, Rome is on from 10-1 and frankly, it’s just white noise to me. Denver’s WAY to good of a sports town to have this garbage thrown at us daily. Look at Boston (weei) for a phenomenal sports programming day. They break up the day well and always have a funny show after a serious show.

If a Denver radio station could get their heads outta their %$#, they’d go with this daily lineup:

Vic and Gary – morning show – 8 – 10
Irv & Joe – 10 – 1
DMac – 1 – 3 (Occasionally with Oren, Al Williams, Josina Anderson, or John Bena)
Evans & Clough – 3 – 6

You may not LOVE any of these guys (except Bena), but they know Denver sports, college, pro and high school. This group is connected to the athlete community in Denver. They give you a very well rounded day of sports talk.

Maybe we should start our own radio channel. I’d be happy to sell ad space for it. Who’s comin’ with me!?!?

Good Points

I can’t stand Sandy Clough. When i hear his voice I instantly change the radio. His arguments are almost always based on his opinion and no fact. Plus every caller gets cut off five words into there statement in order for Sandy to say how awful McDaniels is as a coach.
I like Hastings when he talks Nuggets because he understands basketball, but on any other topic he is annoying. I want Alfred to have the same expertise on football, but he just seems to say the dumbest things every now and then that cloud my judgment of him.

I really like the idea of getting rid of the ESPN crap. Mike and Mike is awful. They should call it The Jets and Notre Dame.
Jim Rome. . .I don’t get it. Apparently every interview he does is the best. Replaying a clip four thousand times makes it funny, and having guys write bad slam poetry is awesome. . .I just don’t get the appeal.
I’ve never listed to Vic and Gary’s radio show. I liked them on McDaniels show I guess.
No idea about Irv and Joe.
DMac is good most of the time, and I loved when he was with Oren cause they made me laugh. It felt very natural to listen to them talk, but you are right they seem to stray off topic way too often.
Have I mentioned that I can’t stand Sandy Clough.

by D-fence on Mar 10, 2010 10:29 AM MST up reply actions

But in a good (serious) radio show

there has to be trhe bad guy/voice of reason. Sandy plays the bad guy to a tee. He is simply a critical thinker and doesn’t appreciate people calling without a well thought out argument. When peopple call in with a good point, he listens. Frankly, I don’t blame him. 90% of the peoiple that call into the radio shows are idiots. My assumption has always been that the moron DP posters call the Fan and blubber on the phone too.

So sick of the crap fans in this town. They give two craps about what McD does until he:

(a) brings Cutler back
(b) brings in a ‘top tier’ QB that somehow became availble in FA or trade (this won’t ever happen)

Denver fans have lost their way. Denver fans don’t care about anything. They will care about the Nuggets and Rockie when they make the playoffs, but those fans will make the real fans of those teams want to strangle themselves.

Avs fans won’t be Avs fans unless the Avs eieth get deep into the playoffs or play the Red Wings in the playoffs.

Broncos fans won’t be happy until McD wins a Super Bowl.

by super7 on Mar 10, 2010 11:07 AM MST up reply actions

I mostly agree

The Broncos get a ton of attention and I think the fans are a little more yeilding than you say.

The lack of attention to what the Avs have done this year is silly. Sandy talks about it plenty, but I can’t handle is meandering and the gigantic amounts of dead air he leaves. Seriously get some background music.

I’m not as pessimistic about the fans as you are. The Avs games are almost sell outs now. The Nuggets sell plenty of tickets as well. This town even loves it’s indoor lacrosse. So what if the perception is that Denver doesn’t give a crap. The teams are making money, and I think that says a lot about how the fans really feel.

by abroncosfanatic on Mar 10, 2010 11:48 AM MST up reply actions

I mostly agree

I am a huge nuggets fan, maybe more than the Broncos (blasphemy?) and it annoys the crap out of me that the Nuggets (who have the best product of the teams in Denver) get so little attention. Even now injuries, Billups, and Melo get all the attention. No mention of how useless Nene can be, or how valuable Joey Graham has been at times.
I think the fans in Denver are decent fans for the most part, but they are very emotional and prone to listen to the voices of the Media who are most outspoken (Paige, Clough, Krieger) while Legwold (the best in Denver), Troy Renck (very good IMHO), Dempsey go under the radar.

Sandy is the voice of the pessimist and I understand that, but his voice just grates on me. Since the McDaniels hire all he has done is nit pick and critize which gets really old really fast for me. He doesn’t have ideas on how to fix stuff beyond getting rid of McDaniels. No FA signing is good, no trade is good. . .ahhhh. . .it makes me angry to think about.

God I can't stand Irv and Joe

Sorry, but those two is like listening to Grandpa Simpson yell at the sky, funny and amusing at first, but becomes so repetive and annoying over time.

A lot of people hate them

but they know thier stuff. I always liked their friday shows when they’d go through the spreads and pick winners.

At least they are fair and they care about Denver’s sports traditions.

But yeah, they graduated high school with Moses.

D-Mac and Al

Are unlistenable. Yesterday, Al went off on how Derek Anderson would be an upgrade over Kyle Orton. A few days before, it was Jake Delhomme. They do no research. They take ridiculously contrived, ignorant positions. Their show is, to paraphrase Kingsley Amis, an untiring skein of facetiousness. Plus, the misogyny is off the charts. D-Mac’s radio persona makes me wonder if he is, in fact, like that in real life; and if so, why no one has beaten him with an aluminum softball bat in public, yet.

I frequently disagree with Clough, but he knows of what he speaks and is more than willing to give credit where it’s due. He and Evans had the best show on that station; the fact that they split them up to feature those other two goobers in drive time makes me doubt the existence of God.

by Remember Keith Kartz! on Mar 10, 2010 1:33 PM MST up reply actions

I agree with you about

D-Mac and Al. I can’t believe how misogynistic they are, but that is how Hastings and Evans are as well. I want more sports and less drivel.
Al seems to feel that showing up to talk for a couple hours is enough. When him and Hastings were together they would forget a player on the Broncos name and it would drive me nuts. Al doesn’t do any research and it shows when he starts talking about a player. He won’t know anything about the person.
I think Evans threatened to kill Clough in order to stop having to listen to him.

by D-fence on Mar 10, 2010 3:38 PM MST up reply actions

Exactly

my point, friend. Al Williams is so obsessed with Kyle Orton being a bad acquisition in his own pea-sized brain that he will say anyone is better than KO. Thank goodness he’s not calling shots for the franchise. I know some football players take too many shots to the head. Has this happened to Alfred?

by the new Bradfather on Mar 10, 2010 3:41 PM MST up reply actions

Al is an idiot

Anytime he talks about anything other than the defensive line, he makes no sense. D-Mac is a good radio guy, but doesn’t stay on point and allows himself to ‘go with the conversation’.

The Fan is doing listeners NO favors by employing these guys.

We should all stop listening because they obviously think that we’ll listen to any BS they put on the air.

by super7 on Mar 10, 2010 4:10 PM MST up reply actions

thanx everybody…will do

by AtwaterIsaBeast on Mar 10, 2010 10:02 AM MST reply actions

Dmac got fired from another radio station for a reason.

He is such a jerk. People call in and he cuts them off in less than two sentences (sometimes for good reason). Alfred Williams argument last night that Michael Jordan is a bigger star worldwide than Muhammad Ali just proves that his opinion is better left to football.

Sandy Clough talking is like listening to a running stream of consciousness. It takes him ten minutes to make a point. I think that’s why they gave him his own show.

I like Oren. His show has energy. He was a regular contributor to the Jim Rome show (don’t hold that against him). I think that’s how the Fan found him. He is a basketball and baseball guy though.

Scott Hastings surprises me regularly with his knowledge of sports outside of basketball. He makes some good points but is overall obnoxious. Scott paired with Mike Evans makes me want to punch a puppy. Overall rubbish.

by abroncosfanatic on Mar 10, 2010 10:46 AM MST reply actions

Like Oren too

but he gets off topic easily and I think he has some personal issues that are unbecoming of being a full time radio personality for the Fan

by super7 on Mar 10, 2010 11:09 AM MST up reply actions

Huh?

What are the personal issues? I hadn’t heard anything, but nothing surprises me anymore.

by D-fence on Mar 10, 2010 3:40 PM MST up reply actions

Alfred

Williams, despite his good career with the Broncos, tends to be a bit critical of the McX regime, especially after the diabetic diva himself, Cuntler, left. Everybody likes to think they know more than Mr. Bowlen. Spurious to say the least…. I like the pre-game show on KOA but sadly that’s the only thing I care to listen to on Denver Sports Radio.
