Marshall: Not Wanted Dead or Alive
Contrary to the ever annoying/speculative Bill Williamson Blog, Brandon Marshall will be donning the Blue and Orange in 2010. This ongoing issue has been hotly contested since his demands surfaced last year, in fact I would suggest that more attention has been thrown in Marshall's direction than the McJaygate soap opera last year. Let's face it the two (McD and BMarsh) are polar opposites, but they need each other and will eventually develop a very successful tandem.
During the Shanny era, Marshall acted out with little regard to the public/team opinion, so much in fact that it has been rumored that Mike was going to give him the axe until that very axe came down on him. Figuratively McDaniel's was Brandon's saving grace as he might have been posting on an out route for another team if Mike was still the defacto Coach/GM/Offensive Play Caller. McD (insert degrading label here) came in and cleaned house or in my mind secular clicks that tore our clubhouse down and turned it into a yearly he said she said year end collapse. Yes, the result was the same last year, fast start followed by a slow confounding crash but we still managed to exceed expectations with an 8-8 finish. Did we really expect the Lombardi Trophy, if you did get your prescription for delusions because it wasn't going to happen.
As we move through free agency this year and towards the draft, McD and the invisible GM X Man have shown maturity with their choices and have shored up a D Line that was part of the 2010 crash. They have also bided there time with Marshall, allowing him to explore but still reinforcing their desire for him to stay. As Marshall ventured out into the presumptive rocky free agent waters he found that they were quite dead and ships weren't exactly pulling into his dock. Is this a sign? I think so; of course Bill Williamson doesn't but thats the only way he is going to keep his readership so I do not blame him.
In addition, you haven't exactly seen players come out to suggest they would want to play with Marshall. Ochocinco has publicly endorsed Owens on Twitter when rumors suggested the aging receiver was going to visit the Bengals; when it was suggested that Marshall might do the same....there was silence. Marshall's lack of discipline needs McDiscipline in order for him to reach his full potential and McDaniels needs Marshall to avoid any rioting in his lawn. I suggest Bronco nation simmer down for a bit and watch as this situation boils down.
Regardless of the outcome we are headed in the right direction.

Don't need him
Does Marshal have to face the ball in order to catch it? Isn’t he a possession receiver? I like possession receivers, but not when they act like divas.
Divas
That is what I am suggesting though. McDaniels doesn’t stand for that type of attitude on or off the field. He showed some improvement this year and he has been handling Free Agency well, can he be turned around? Marshall will fall if he plays for a coach like Carrol.

Ocho doesnt endorse BM only because...
Marshall is 2x better, and would turn OchoCinco into #2 WR….he doesnt want Marshall level talent to have to compete, and he’s knows it too! Believe me! T.O. is NO threat to Ocho’s #1 WR position.

In addition having BMarsh and 85 on the same team would lead them to self destruct.

That's probably the same sentiment that a lot of players have.
It’s pretty rare, anyways, to have a guy come out and say “I want player X on my team.” Ocho probably wouldn’t have spoken up (he hasn’t in the past), unless he was a proven veteran. This is his tenth season in the NFL, so at this point, he finally has seniority to be able to speak up and campaign for a guy that he thinks can help his production.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

The bengals ranked no lower than 7th on defense, but on offense they were ranked 26th with the pass and 22nd in scoring.
They released Laveranues Cole and are desperate for a receiver. They will probably take TO because TO is on his last leg. Teams aren’t exactly knocking down his door either. Marshall will probably be traded during the draft after we pick up his tender, that’s saying if Seattle doesn’t sign him of course, which would be great for us.
Seattle
The Hawks will not use their pick to get Marshall the Carrol Marshall relationship would be a disaster.

I think Pete Carroll is a type of guy who can tolerate the Marshall persona..
And I wouldn’t foresee any issues with marshall once he get’s paid. I may be wrong though and with gangster types you never know.
Carrol
The only issue I see with Carrol is that he is the buddy buddy type of coach and lets things slip. You just can’t let things slip with Marshall (i.e see Shanny first two years with Marshall)

You are exactly right.
If he get’s paid, he will quiet down. I am strongly of that opinion as well.

The Bengals won't be signing TO
They just signed Antonio Bryant

My thoughts...
perhaps my biggest concern about Brandon is figuring out what will make him happy and 100% focused on his performance and being a solid locker room presence. Let’s say no team makes a play for him, then what? Brandon begrudgingly signs his tender and then the Broncos have a potentially bummed Marshall playing whenever he feels like it? Or do we try and sign him to a new deal with an eye toward keeping him for the next 3-5 years? In my mind, I dread having a player who is moody all year long.
Committing random acts of Brandon since 2006...

Agree
So lets stop piling the blame on McD. The philosophy that he is building can only prove to be successful in the long run.

At what point is Denver to blame?
At some point, Denver needs to quit playing with Marshall as well. Bowlen told Marshall that if he kept playing on this level, he would command a big pay raise. He did, and now it’s Denver’s turn to take care of business Bronco Style. Pay him (live up to your word), and end this (team first attitude goes from top to bottom and bottom to top). Everyone would win in this case.

I think the front office might come under more pressure post draft.
If Brandon isn’t signed or dealt by then, then this story will grow even more. I’m not sure how the tender process works, but how long does Brandon have to sign the deal? I could see him waiting till the last moment to sign his deal…begrudgingly at that. I too rather we make up our minds and give him a fair offer if things don’t work out by the draft.

Do the Broncos hold all the cards?
I don’t see it. You’re assuming they want him back. IF they do they still need to sign Marshall and supposedly he has already turned down a 9.5 million a year contract. If thats the case I dont see Denver holding any of the cards.
I hope that we keep Marshall and that he can keep his noggin screwed on right
.
This is exactly the reason why you may not get a first round pick for Marshall. Put yourself in Seattles shoes. As a fan of that team would you offer a first round pick for him knowing he could be suspended at any time? Of course you wouldnt.
Say what you want about the MSM. They do have inside sources a majority of the time and look at things a little bit more objectively than a fan blogging for his team would.

i think we may just be stuck with him at this point
with teh bengals out of the mix, the market just got cut in half. whatever happens, i agree that it will most likely not happen fast

Way to early
to say BM will be back with the Broncos. I still feel confident that at least one of the other 31 nfl teams will work out a trade with the Broncos or at least one team will step up to the plate and sign BM to an offer sheet but this might not happen until draft time. If I were a team picking any where from 20-32 I would sign BM to an offer sheet in a heartbeat if I could work out a contract with BM because giving up a pick between 20-32 for a proven wide receiver who seems to have grown up a lot seems like a no brainer to me. Think of it this way-even though the Colts offense is already great how much better would it be with BM on one side opposite Reggie Wayne and with Dallas Clark at TE. Now that would be a real scary offense to any defense. Not sure if the Colts can sign BM to an offer sheet because of the “Final 8” rule but if they can they should unless they think the money it would cost them to sign BM would upset Wayne. That is just one example-at least one team will step up to the plate before or during the draft I think for one of the best WR in the NFL. Most of the blockbuster trades occurr during the draft or right before it so no need to worry about BM being forced to be a Bronco again in 2010 until after draft weekend is over. If he is still a Bronco after the draft then that is a different story.
Colts
Marshall will never go to the Colts. No way that will happen.
