Merlin Olsen Has Died
Defensive lineman great and actor Merlin Olsen has passed away. Many folks remember Olsen for his roles in "Little House on the Prarie", "Father Murphy", and "Aaron's Way". Others remember him for his dominance during the 1960s, where he was one of the "feasome foursome" for the Rams.
This gentle giant was a class act, a powerful player, and was loved well beyond the football community.
MHR's prayers go out to Merlin and his family.

Merlin was one of the greats for sure.
He was also one of my favorite commentators when working with NBC. My prayers and thoughts go out to the Olsen family. He was one of the good guys……..

Too bad he didn’t sign with the Broncos, few remember that we drafted Olson, would of been an interesting d-line with him and Tombstone Jackson.

Loved Ole
Grew up listening to him and Dick Enberg doing Bronco games. Too soon.
Step aside, my friend, I been doin' it for years.
Said sit on down, open ya eyes, say open up ya ears....
RIP Father Murphy
I remember him from the Rams as a boy. He had some car dealerships with Roman Gabriel.

Good man for sure
He was only 69, I think. Too young, but the Lord works in mysterious ways.

is the epitome of what a good Mormon should be. Religiously, I try to honor our faith the way he did. I always liked hearing him do color commentary. Truly, he is one of the great representatives of my home state of Utah as well. People like him, Tom Chambers and LaVell Edwards in part made Utah what it is today!

I was friends with this guy
You probably get this a lot. This isn't the real Caesar's Palace is it?....Did Caesar live here?
You know where I wanna go? I'll tell you where. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called Aspen
Sorry for your loss.
I enjoyed Merlin as a player (though I only recall his final two years), as an actor, and as an announcer. In recent years I’ve wondered whatever became of him. Certainly he had more announcing talent than most of the clowns I’ve suffered through in the last twenty years. I read on TMZ (of all unlikely, and probably unreliable places) a blurb suggesting that he’d been working with drywall in his post-announcing career. I can’t imagine Merlin Olsen hanging sheet rock. It’s a shame to lose a man who always impressed me as a true gentleman, and a player how wreaked unbelievable and unheralded havoc on the field. I offer my condolences to you as his friend.
Broncos Über Alles
He was a good guy. Gone too soon.
Like pubkeeper, I enjoyed listening to him doing color with Dick Enberg. He added a lot to the color that I never saw with others guys. I was sad to see him no longer doing that.
Thanks, Steve.
He and Enberg
Great announcer duo – they called both The Drive and The Fumble games.
RIP and prayers for his family.

Great point!
I didn’t realize that.

RIP Merlin
Merlin and Dick Enberg are my favorite NFL announcing team ever. They were so much better than Joe Buck and Troy Aikmen or any other crew today except I like Natz and Simms a lot also. Merlin seemed like he had the gift of being great at whatever he did-shame he died way too young but I will always remember his work fondly-especially some of the best games of Elway’s career.
