Sorry
Sorry this was my first post had to figure it out. I know Its not perfect but just wanted to get this out there
True.
Reported on ESPN Insider:

and ProFootballTalk.com:

Kind of a surprise.
Does this mean Spencer Larsen is ready for an expanded role? Or is Mario Haggen moving inside to allow Robert Ayers to start? Or does the front office have confidence that Rolando McClain can manage his Crohns disease?

McClain
I would doubt that the Broncos would release a player expecting to draft a particular player. You never know what is going to happen in the draft and it is risky to assume the player you want would be available when you want them.
I would expect an existing LB to step into that role but you never know!
That is what has surprised me about the timing of Davis and Wiegman's releases
Not surprised that they are gone, but I would have thought they would wait to find immediate replacements. Perhaps the coaches already feel that they have replacements on board?
Wow...A little shocked right now...Thought that it might happen but not this soon!

There's going to be a shake up the middle as well as the line.
I think McD/Wink want ILBer’s with speed, instinctive skills and power to the edges, both Davis and Williams struggled in that department as well as often getting tangled with blockers. That (as McD stated) is unacceptable. I’m hoping this opens the door for Spencer Larsen and WW to get more playing time. Maybe even Nick Greisen will factor in this somehow.
Greisen is the forgotten man
I think we have ILB covered now but Greisen provides depth if necessary.
no goats, no glory.
Now Fox news reorting it too. Here are his words
“They let me go. I thought I was going to be here. My agent is on the phone now. I am sure I’ll end up somewhere,” Davis said to Anderson.

well, if this new regime has taught us anything
Is that its unpredictable.
You probably get this a lot. This isn't the real Caesar's Palace is it?....Did Caesar live here?
You know where I wanna go? I'll tell you where. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called Aspen

completely shocking..3rd on the team in total tackles.
What was his salary?

Could Haggan be moving back inside?
He’s younger, and he did just sign a new deal last year.
ILB is Haggan’s natural spot, right?
That would free up Ayers to grab the other OLB spot opposite Doom.
This makes the most sense to me right now.. concerning this situation..
I can’t see them being ready to promote Larsen without seeing him play as a starter in rotation for a while.
Or a trade is in the works. There are a couple of tendered ilb’s available, maybe one of them is coming here? Larry Foote is an ufa but i am not sure he is an upgrade compared to Davis.
I would imagine that they have what they consider to be an upgrade lined up, otherwise the cut doesn’t make sense.
This was my thought...
….but, I don’t know if Haggen is a natural ILB.
He would seem to have the size, yet, played OLB even with the 4-3 Bills. And was a DE/LB with Mississippi State.
One thing I do know; the coaching staff knows something.

Haggan is perfect in the role he's playing now.

I tend to agree.
He’s use to setting the edge in both the college and pro game.
Then, again, maybe he practiced at ILB occasionally and looked great. IDK……..
"You can make mistakes, but you are not a failure until you blame others for those mistakes." -John Wooden
Haggan played a few plays at ILB last year...
Note the Colts game and others. He has better pass coverage skills than WW IMO..
Woodyard
I thought Woodyard played really well last year and looked in line for an increased role this year. Could he potentially take Davis’s place? He was playing for him on passing downs last year, right?
Yeah Woodyard played passing downs,
but I don’t think Woodyard has the bulk to be an everydown LB in the 3-4.

If I had to guess
I would think the timing is mostly just a favor to Davis. If they didn’t see any circumstances where they would be happy with Davis starting in 2010, then the earlier they let him go, the easier it will be for him to find a new job. Sure the Broncos could have kept Davis and Petterson around as camp fodder, but those guys have given a lot of good stuff to this team, and I think the organization respects that.
Now, of course, someone will post that each had a roster bonus about to be due and it will turn out to be all about the money:)
This Davis quote would seem to support that theory.
“I respect how they handled it, letting me go now instead of waiting till later on. They gave me that respect. I really want to thank all the fans for their support and welcoming me and my family. It’s a great town. That’s going to be one of the hardest parts knowing we’re going to have to leave here.”

The last bit made me a little sad.. he did ok for us last year. But i do think that he was a weak link in coverage and teams exploited that. Also our new D coordinator was in the best position to make this decision.. he had a years experience coaching him and seeing his strengths and weaknesses.
i heard speculation
maybe the trade is back on for david harris for bmarsh (and maybe picks). for those of you who don’t know harris is a stud. stats TCKL 127 SCK 5.5 FF 2 INT 2 . Pretty much a stud!
Is this speculation from the fans over there or a source?
He is the quiet, calm one in the middle with the loud and obnoxious Bart Scott. They were a part of the Jets defense that was tops in the league. That would be a bad trade as Harris just turned 26 in January and ran a 4.59/40 at the NFL Combine.
Davis
Had as good a season as we could as hoped for, but as the season wore on, you can see some of the weakness’ show. The only reason I am shocked is because he would’ve been a really good backup. I’m confident we will find someone but I hate going into the draft REALLY needing a position.
Looking forward to the second year in McDaniels system! Royal will tear it up! GUARANTEED!!
The Broncos run defense at the 2nd level was ranked 27th out of 32.
Open field run stopping was 24th. This is totally unacceptable for any team that wants to win consistently.
As an aside....
The raders just cut Gerard Warren, too. Always wished the Broncos had just kept him….
Step aside, my friend, I been doin' it for years.
Said sit on down, open ya eyes, say open up ya ears....
What? We don’t need this quitter. This guy plays for money and nothing else.
Marshall obviously wants to be paid more, but his game day enthusiasm is 2nd to none (well, maybe 2nd to Dawkins, but no one else).
Warren doesn’t even look as if he enjoys playing football at all.
In my opinion.
Gerard Warren's
most endearing moment, if you can call it that, is saying if you hit a quarterback in the head, then he’s dead. That’s pretty sad. Surely we can do better than him.

Clarification
I don’t want the Broncos to go get him now, but it seemed to me when right after he was cut, they adjusted the system (Bates to Slowik philosophy) to suit his strengths (holding the line vs. penetrating).
Step aside, my friend, I been doin' it for years.
Said sit on down, open ya eyes, say open up ya ears....
Oh, they did too
They stuck their fingers in their ears, closed their eyes and said, “Nyah, nyah, nyah,…..” lol. But only after throwing a dart into a board covered with the names of DCs to hire on one year flyers.
It all starts with the lines
I’m surprised. This guy played very well for a good chunk of 2009.
Gosh, DJ Williams didn’t play well in the final few games, is he going to get canned?
In my opinion.
Maybe we're looking at Kirk Morrison?
Martindale DID used to be his LB coach at Oakland, and he’s a good ILB with only a 3rd-round tender.
Of course, it doesn’t make any sense to release Davis BEFORE signing Morrison.
Morrison?
I wouldn’t trade a 6th rounder for him. He is due a new deal and he really fell off the last two years.
In my opinion.
Sucks in coverage. Same fault as Andra Davis, well, same as Larry Foote too, and I think he's on at least semi-on-the-market-too
I wouldn’t see either of them as upgrades to Andra Davis.
Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!
I don't think this is a bad
Thing, I believe that last year as McDaniels first year was used to transition from waht Shanny had and waht McDaniels wants, and to McDaniels credit, I feel he is doning it gradually, and if sucessful, we as fans should see continous improvement each year, until I believe in the third year we will be in the mix for at least AFC champions. This year 10-6 with playoff appearance. 2011 (if there is football) 11-5, 12-4 with contention.
Why cut Andra Davis that did work hard for most of the season
While we still haven’t cut Chris Simms yet?
It might make more sense financially to cut them after June 1st. I remember this being
the case in the past.

Nobody is going to pickup Simms if he's dropped
Doubtful anyway. So, it’s not as important to drop him early to give him time for someone else to pick him up. Cutting Andra Davis earlier is a sign of respect, it gives him time to attach to a roster before rosters get full and organized.
I’ve gotta say again, though, I’m beginning to change my mind on Simms. I’m starting to think he could be on the roster at game time – depending on how the draft falls.
Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!
Gotta admit ...
… this one has me scratchin my head a bit. Davis wasn’t lights out – but I thought he was pretty solid most of the time and a good leader.

Team Just Got Younger
Looks like Haggen, Spencer, and Woodyard will be competing for the starting job at ILB. With the additions of the D-Line speed at LBer is what is needed now. Drafting McCain now makes sense.
oc60
Come on guys..
Before the news about McClain’s chrohns disease how many of you thought that we would draft him and he would start in Davis’s place by the time the season started? Be Honest.
Davis was never going to be the starter this year and the question then becomes would we prefer to have Larsen as the Backup or Davis.. I’d take Larsen personally. Oh and they can’t cut Woodyard cas he rocks!
The only real surprise to me is the the timing
But then again, I’ve been critical and loud about needing to replace him. He took it with grace and style, and I certainly think another team can use him. Best of luck Mr. Davis!
Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!
Haggan is a fine ILB. He just needs to stay healthy.
Im assuming Mart. wants go younger with all that age infront of the LB’s. Haggan is solid.
We will probably draft or sign another ILB
An alternative to Rolando McClain could be Brandon Spikes. He has great football instincts and plays with a chip on his shoulder. Scouts.com
Brandon Spikes.
Not yet a sack machine but has good instincts on the blitz and can get off of blocks when reached iearly in his charge. Used on occasion as an edge rusher in 2008 and proved to be a headache to some good OTs, including former Alabama star LOT Andre Smith. Not a great athlete and will have some limitations in man-to-man coverage. But he’s a natural playmaker in zone coverage. Gets a solid drop and hass great recognition skills in zone coverage. Ball skills are excellent for a 250-pound linebacker. Notched four interceptions in 2008
