can we do better with a 3rd than...
Wait for it....
With the releasing of ILB Andra Davis today we has created a void on our team that may or may not be filled by current prospects on the team.
Also, with the news of Rolando McClain's health concerns moving forward I believe more than a few of us are skeptical about taking him with that 11th pick.
And as for Spikes, not that he would necessarily be there at 45, but the fact that we took a look at Ducasse I am going to (for the sake of this discussion) pretend that we are taking him with that pick.
Not sure that any other ILB would be worth taking for what we are looking at anywhere else in the first three rounds.
So would it be worth sending our 3rd round pick to the Raiders for Kirk Morrison? I for one have to say pull the trigger on that deal. Apparently Morrison and his agent are saying that they are in contact with teams. I am really hoping that we are one of them and that the fact that we let Davis go was because we had this deal all but locked.
I know you hate to give another draft pick to a team in the west, but atleast there is an above average chance that Al Davis will screw it up.
Morrison is a machine and is in his prime and is better than questionably any ILB we would take in the draft, especially one in the 3rd round

Don't the Raiders still have to agree as to whom to take the third pick from.....
they would probably deal with anyother teams before they make trades with San Diego or Denver. Or can we just give them the pick and sign him slightly higher then anybody else?
actually, I think it is who Morrison signs an offer sheet from the team he wants...
then the raiders have the choice to match, or let him go…

exactly
they have no say except as whether to match it or not, and according to PFT
The Raiders would seemingly be thrilled if Morrison signs an offer sheet elsewhere.
so just sign him McX!

Interesting...
He wouldn’t be my first option, but I’d be willing to talk to him if for no other reason than to aggrevate Al Davis…

The opportunity cost is awful from Denver’s prespective. Morrison is an average NFL player that will command an expensive new contract.
A 3rd round pick is very valuable in THIS draft and the salary of such a prospect will be much smaller than what Morrison woudl require.
I very much dislike this idea.
In my opinion.

i would have to disagree and say he is an above average linebacker
and he as been one on a fairly poor team
i just think that the later round linebackers are more of gamble than a proven vet in his prime. The only ones i even really like are Micah Johnson (i was introduced to him through MHR mock drafts, but have since watched a bit of film on him) and Pat Angerer (who would need to gain some weight). Morrison is a sure tackler (634 total tackles in 5 seasons) and he hits hard (youtube it) and would look sweet in orange and blue (and we could rub it in to the raider fans)

Are you an economics teacher?
How is the opportunity cost awful?
1st Scenario: Broncos offer a 3 year 18 mil dollar contract (not a whole lot, but not a little). The Raiders choose that they don’t want him around for 3 more years and they want to get value out of him so they don’t offer. We get a good LB for pretty cheap.
2nd Scenario: Broncos offer a 3 year 18 mil dollar contract. The Raiders decide that they don’t want Morrison to go to the Broncos. They sign him. It doesn’t seem that the Raiders want Morrison anymore (they put a 3rd round tender on him), so the Raiders would have 18 million dollars tied up throughout the next 3 seasons.

Quite franky
I say that the Broncos sign him. Either way the Raiders lose. If Denver offers him a 3 year 18 million dollar deal and the Raiders don’t match, we get a good ILB for pretty cheap. If the Raiders do match, they’re stuck with a player that they don’t want anymore for 3 more years.
I agree, he is slightly underrated.
not a player the opposing offense plans around ofcourse, but solid and would be able to play right away. Plus there is rumblings in SD that they want him. So thats added benifit if we swoop him
i love that type of added benefit

Alternative
Tim Dobbins from San Diego was tendered with an original round offer – thats a 5th round. He’d be a better option, cheaper, more upside, lower draft cost
