Question from a Giants Fan
Hey Bronco Nation,
The Giants are hoping and praying for Rolando McClain to fall to us. I do know that a likely stopping spot for him is with Denver, especially now that you guys released Andra Davis. While looking over the site, there seems to be differing responses in regards to whether you'll draft him or not.
I've read that you guys'll look inwards to replace Davis by shuffling your LB core. I still see a ton of mocks around the web giving you guys NT Dan Williams, but I'm not too sure now because you guys made a lot of moves to shore up your line. So I ask, do you all have a definitive answer at ILB, and are most likely going to pass on McClain, or is your team going to ruin our dream haha?

I'm totally just messing with you
It is very possible you can get him. Some Denver people (including myself) think we should pass on him since news of the Chron’s disease came out. So you have reason to have hope. A lot of people like the idea of trading down and picking up someone so I think it is a very realistic possibility you can get him
dude,
i hope so man, MLB is by far our biggest need haha

I think we'll do something stupid like draft Dez Bryant.

If Jimmy Clausen or Sam Bradford
are available when you guys pick, will you draft them? How firmly entrenched is Orton in the starting QB position?

It wouldnt be suprising
for us to pick up one of the top two QBs…but there are too many teams that need to pick up a QB in the top 10
There's a very good chance
He’s a big-time 3/4 ILB. We don’t really have a true 3/4 ILB. The only question is the whole Crohns disease thing. If our docs feel that it is controllable, we very well might ruing your dream.
Either way, I think he would be a great addition to either of our teams.
my neck of the woods
i kinda adopted the giants when they came to n.j.(#2 team), but the new/old ny on the helmet pushed them back a few slots. the sb didn’t help either, but i’m over it(karlis, you cost us the game!). anyway, welcome.
McClain? as noted quickly above, the ? now would appear to push him back past #11, i would guess. i hear it’s no small deal, but really don’t know much about this illness and it’s effect on a professional athlete. is there a doctor in the house? there used to be.
his health would seem to determine where he falls in the first round. in this case, it appears you have a shot. if it’s a controllable thing, the need is still there for us, especially now, as it has been since…al wilson. the guy that failed the physical for you guys terminating a trade with justin tuck, and i believe, a 4th-rounder. basically, if he’s good to go, i think we take him.
taste my blitzkrieg!
sign doom now
Crohn's Disease
Like Emmit and Ponderosa have said in comments on other threads, the severity of Crohn’s disease is very difficult to predict. Just because he hasn’t missed any games thus far in his career doesn’t mean that the disease won’t abruptly worsen and cause chronic problems in the future. There will definitely be an additional element of risk to whichever team selects him in the first round.
I remember that trade
holy crap I’m so happy that didn’t go thru

You do realize that mock drafts are pretty much always 99% wrong right?
I don’t think any of us can answer your question because we aren’t Josh McDaniels and he hasn’t told us yet. When we pick #11 we’ll let you know :).
Seriously though I hope we trade back and pick up Weatherspoon instead. Although if we take McClain I won’t be sad…for us or you :O
What the Giants really need to do is...
…trade up to the eleventh pick. Send us your first round pick (#15) and your third and you can have McClain. Tell Tom Coughlin.
All that you behold, though it appears without, it is within, in your imagination, of which this world of mortality is but a shadow...and one day you’ll awake and find that you’ve never lived and never died, except in the dream.

If the Giants want McClain bad enough
They should bid for the Broncos’ 11th pick, because I think they could be looking to trade down as of now. Right now, the Arizona Cardinals seem like a prime option to trade up with the Broncos, because they have a huge void at ILB as well. If the Giants want him, they should either move ahead of Denver or make a deal with Denver.
A vision without a plan is just a dream. A plan without a vision is drudgery. But a vision with a plan can change the world.
I think he's one of the big considerations if we stand pat at 11 still
Chron’s disease isn’t going to throw him that far down unless he has severe problems with it. So far, this doesn’t seem likely since he’s been playing fine in college.
I’d be very happy picking him up and I think many of us would. If you guys want him bad, you should probably trade up and get him though. I don’t think he’ll stick around too long.

I'm with you sadaraine and any team considering taking him will get the medical staff's opinion first.
Sigh
there’s no way we trade up. Jerry Reese, our GM is a firm believer in BPA wherever we are. It’d be nice because its a perfect match of value and need at #15

The jury is still out.
I don’t think anybody knows enough about McX’s personnel philosophy to make an educated case at this point. If he is a pure Belichick disciple, I doubt McClain is on the radar. Denver already has a pretty good WILB and the Patriots have generally filled the SILB role with lower priced, established, instinctual vets (Antonio Pierce, maybe?). However, some respectable voices think Denver is looking to have two dynamic three down ILB’s (although its questionable that McClain is even that guy). If they are correct, then McClain seems like a real possibility.
I tend to think Denver is more likely to go O or D line. It takes a couple of years for most 3-4 types to develop, so I don’t think this FA period will cause any change in plans if they like certain dline types like Williams. Haden and Bryant are also distinct possibilities.
It should be an interesting draft. I personally hope things work out for the Giants, and you all get your guy.

Thank you sir,
Personally i hope things work out for the broncos. Anything to wipe the smile off Phillip Rivers’ face.
Based on last year’s draft, I feel like McDaniels is strongly BPA only. Hopefully that’s not Rolando when it comes time…

Mark my words...
With the 11th pick of the NFL draft the Denver Broncos select….
Terrence Cody, University of Alabama
McDaniels signed Buckhalter, Jordan & Arrington last season and then drafted Moreno. This season he signed Jamal Williams and will draft Williams’ future replacement in Terrence Cody – the only NT in the draft that reminds him of Vince Wilfork – who was the absolute defensive cornerstone of the New England dynasty .

Consider your words marked
It’s a bold prediction. I may not agree with it but so what? I can already imagine the uproar if Goodell announces this pick.

I would be one
There’s not one thing about Cody that impresses me. Not even his size. Look at Wilfork, then look at Cody. One of them has a whole lot more jiggly weight than the other.
I don't know..
..if there is that much of a difference…

Plus, Wilfork is a seasoned professional now, whereas Cody is just a raw, young man – he’ll be a monster in the League at some point in the future.

Cody's been getting in better shape, by all accounts?
Will he maintain it after he gets paid? Who knows…

I think there's a chance
Cody might be able for you guys to trade up for in the 2nd round…anyways, most peeps consider him only a 2 down lineman….have you guys thought about Cam Thomas?

I highly recommend you trade up as far as possible to be sure to get McClain.

Dan Williams or Eric Berry, depending on who is still left
McClain is yours.

If you haven't heard, Eric Berry is the real deal.

lol
I heard. If he somehow falls to you guys, the division’s pretty much yours. Dawkins and Berry would be the nastiest safety pair in the league

BigBlue: What do you think about..
Antonio Pierce? I’ve thought he seems like an intriguing player for the Broncos to consider for ILB duties (I know he has the leadership qualities that you’d want), but I just don’t know enough about this neck injury. It seems there are not many teams interested in him, or at least I haven’t heard any hype about him yet.

I would avoid picking him up...
He’s a great character guy, very cerebral, and a strong leader. If you wanna pick him up, give him a clipboard. He’s got no gas in the tank anymore. He’s awful in pass coverage and run coverage, cause he can’t shed blocks easily anymore, and gets burned WAYYYY too easily covering TE’s and shifty RBs…the neck injury at first seemed career threatening, but now, it seems like he’ll fully recover…
