FA Cupboard Thinning Out??
Mmmm, not sure about this article being reported on National Football Post - especially in light of Wiegmann's signing with the Chiefs yesterday. That said, it underlines the fact that the pickings left on the street are wearing thin. The Broncos have sought to pick up bigger bodies on both sides of the ball, and whilst, for the most part this has been successful on the D-line, we haven't fared so well on the O-line. Perhaps this is giving our draft strategy away? Anyway the article below makes reference to the fact that Hank Fraley is planning a visit to Missouri. God love him.
If we can't grab anything soon, I'd be tempted to part with our 4th Round pick, and post it to the Seahawks for their OG Rob Sims. Think he'd be a good value pick, based on analyses from so-called experts like Mel Kiper. Any of you guys know more about Sims??

I know that
when Seattle had Marshall “in” the fans there said that he sucks. As bad as their OL was and they don’t want him. I don’t think we do either.

Thanks for the comments. Seems like the ‘hawks fans are more aware of Brandon’s negatives than their front office. I’d personally hate to see him leave. How often do you get the chance to have a top 5 talent in your team? When you do, you don’t give them away, do you? The problem at the moment is that there isn’t much in the way of a market for him, so that prevents the Hawks from offering too much. We need the market to heat up, and I could see a New England or heaven forbid, a San Diego bid coming in for him over the next few weeks. For a late 1st rounder, it would put a lot of pressure on the ‘Hawks to step up or shut up. Think this will play out slowly over the next few weeks as I said. All very much a high pressure poker game where the first one to blink will concede the initiative. Bottom line though is that if we do lose BMarsh, we’ll get a #1 for him. Perhaps the #6 is too much to hope for though. It would of course be nice, and would really put us in a strong position to either sit tight and pick up two impact players (well, thinking back to last year, maybe I should review that comment!) or keep one and trade down to snare a couple of other picks as Jon Tollerud suggests below… Appreciate the comments. Thanks.
No opinion on Sims
I’ve heard both sides on him and haven’t seen enough film to jump in on that. I do have a thought on the OL, though. Right now, despite the level of concern that is understandable, we may have our starting lineup already in house. We do know that good things were said about Olsen – we don’t know if he’s being groomed for center or guard, but we do know that he has been getting training in both (I’m basing this on quotes from McD at various times). Fry is also in house as a center (plus the last-ditch option of Ben Hamilton, a G/C), McChesney as a guard. I’m less fond of Hochstein than some, but that’s based on the number of errors I saw him make – there’s no question that his flexibility is valuable, but I don’t see him as a starting OL. We have a question mark in Harris that will prove out one way or the other over time, and DAnthony Baptiste already on the squad.
Despite the reasonable level of worry about all of this, we may already be set and could be adding younger talent with time for them to mature. Fraley was given pretty terrible grades by folks who I trust, including our own TedB. No worrying about just getting in bodies is probably wise – adding a borderline guy like Hadnot at a fair price makes some sense, but just signing someone to get a body into a slot isn’t as workable a solution. Give it time.

Thanks for the comments, and I’d agree about Hochstein. Wasn’t impressed at all. I think if we have a healthy OL, our line is shaping up as Clady, Harris, Kuper and two others yet to be decided. Think Olsen has been okay when pressed into action, but must bear in mind that he was drafted to fit in a zone blocking system, so it may take a bit of adjustment for him and others, and of course, he didn’t feature regularly last term, so that doesn;t help his progress either. Still think there’s a chance that we pursue Keydrick Vincent and a few rumours circulating about an interest in Kevin Mawae, zimmer frame and all!! Still, that said, thought he did a pretty reasonable job last year when you think he was the pivot on a 2,000yd RB season.
MHM - Interesting note on Olsen
When he was hired, Steve Nichols and I were confused because he’s a poor fit for the ZB scheme. I’m hoping that he’s better for this approach.

I have recently been looking at this as well. We may not have room for all these OL in the recent mocks(mine included). Hochstein will stay because he’s a utility guy. At Tackle we have Clady and I hope all’s well with Harris. I don’t know enough about Gorin or Batiste to say whether they make the roster or not. Polumbus was not good. Guards are Kuper, Olsen and McChesney. I think all 3 stick and none that can be “hid”. To draft one would toss all the work they’ve done with McChesney out the door. As you can tell I’m not sold on Olsen the starting Center just because someone might have heard McD say he was going to give him some reps there. Speaking of Center, we have Fry. How good is he? Will he make the team? Do we carry two Cs or just one?
I know about what you do ;-)
We’ve got a lot of players in house. If we draft another group of OL payers, it suggests that perhaps some on the current roster, won’t be with us at the end of training camp. I could see two more – one OT, one OG, as probable. They could even go for more and add a center. It’s a good draft for that, too. We do need to develop a strong, deep line and that requires time.
Few players are like Clady and come in to produce in their first year. Even so – if we can obtain players who look like they fit the model that McX is working toward – and we don’t even really know that model yet – letting them develop for a year or more is fine. You never know, much like last season, when your injuries will be such that players need to come in and immediately step up to starter quality. It’s hard to do that, especially with the need for comfortable communication among OL players, but the alternative is what we saw from Polumbus last season. I doubt anyone is happy there, so getting an OT who we can go to if Harris’ injury lingers is just good sense. That even includes the possibility of taking one at 11. As fans, we don’t have access to trustworthy reports on player status, and that makes most of what we talk about just the best guesswork that we can make. IMO, if we go OT at 11, it only means that we don’t know yet on Harris, rather than, “Harris won’t go.” Can D’Anthony Baptiste go in his stead? Same answer – perhaps, but we don’t have the info yet.
We always carry two centers. They just offered Fry a futures contract, so they have some interest there. Sometimes one is a G/C like Hamilton, but you have to have a backup other than the longsnapper, whose skillset is completely different (I tend to doubt that Hamilton has a long term opportunity in Denver, but we’ll see). I believe that Hochstein is safe, Kuper generally did well until the end of the year, but he was flanked by players who weren’t doing their jobs well and that had to get difficult. McD stated that Olsen is coming along well and should compete for a slot – that could mean G or C, or just be offseason misdirection – I tend to take everything at this point with a shaker of salt.
The only thing that I’m fairly certain of is that we’ll be adding to the OL this draft. When and who will tell us a great deal more about how McX want the line to look in 2012 or so.

Could be he might retire as a chief
He played there his entire career except for the last two as a bronco.
Papa
That could very well be the reason for the signing then…. Thanks.
I dont if it was that good to begin with
200 RFA’s thinned out UFA before they even had a chance. Outside of what we have seen I don’t predict a whole lot of RFA movement!
Denver only has six picks this year I believe and therefore will covet those and not want to part with them. Keep in mind as well that we can only have 53 men on the roster, 8 men on the practice squad and 19 cheerleaders! Personally I want to see ALL 19 Cheerleaders so you can replace one of them with a guy!
Davis and Sharpe to the Hall!

Couple of good points there JT, especially coveting the picks we do have. Oh, and the cheerleaders are a must keep!! LOL.
