McDaniels Calls Orton, Assures Him of Starting Position
"SI.com's Peter King reports that Broncos coach Josh McDaniels called Kyle Orton immediately after Sunday's trade for Brady Quinn to inform Orton he's still the team's starting quarterback.
There's little doubt that Orton will take the first snap at OTAs, but he's still going to have to out-practice and outperform Quinn in exhibition games to stay atop the depth chart. McDaniels may view Quinn as his long-term pet project. With better physical tools, Quinn offers more upside than Orton."

well, i guess...
this answers my question in another post, about how long mcd keeps this competition open, if there ever was one. interesting move, quinn may give him a run for his money, especially if orton skips the voluntary workouts,… but i think orton beats him out, as long as he is here.
did mcd tell quinn this was to be the case? i mean, after only 2 years in the league, is this former first-rounder prepared to be a backup? or does he think he will prove to mcd that he should start? that would take some kind of confidence, and performance, but he is supposed to know the system already, basically, isn’t he? weiss’ offense, by the way, who is now in kc, with pioli, crennel, cassell, and others. who is going to do it better then, the lone wolf mcd, or the gm, oc, dc, and qb actually from the pats and their heydays? good stuff, there.
strange mcd made that call, he must really like orton, and quinn must not care. this is going to be very interesting. may the best qb win. i like the unknown brandstarter myself, or a draft pick, to be our qb of the future. something about him just looks right, need to see more. but if quinn works out to be the man,, what a steal this trade would be. the upside is there. get to work mcd, you got 3 qb’s to groom! and a team

He has been a backup to Derek Anderson in Cleveland, so I would certainly think so.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

There's only one problem with this account from King
Orton says that it isn’t true. He and McD soke before the trade. The part that is true is that Orton has said that he is comfortable with what was said and that he is clear that he’s still the #1 QB in Denver
It all starts with the lines
we just got a real good backup, then
for 2 years at least. i think there is a big signing bonus then, if i’m not mistaken. still looking for the conditional pick specs, but it seems to be a late-rounder is all that i found. so quinn>simms then, you gotta like the move. and just maybe…
