Quinn For Cassel?

Well it's that time again with the broncos and trades for QB's. With the broncos trading Hillis(He was going to be cut), a 6th round pick, and up to a 4th round pick for Brady Quinn if he starts 75% of the games this year. Is there a chance that McDaniels has something else in mind for when he traded near to nothing for Quinn? With charlie Wies now being with the chiefs, one can't help but think maybe McDaniels traded for Quinn so he can put together a package trade for Matt Cassel since he Cassel knows the system and worked under McDaniels for the patriots. The chiefs only gave up a second round pick and Linebacker Mike Vrabel. As everyone knows, there were talks last year about trading jay Cutler for Cassel last year. Cassel has not shown anything but being a bust so fat with the chiefs so do you think it would be worth it to trade a for Cassel? I'm thinking we could maybe get Cassel for a second or third round pick along with a 7th round pick and Quinn. Whats everyone's feeling on this option?

Cassel Numbers

“Matt Cassel is due an $11.75 million salary next season, which ranks third among projected starting quarterbacks for 2010.” From rotoworld.com

How does that equal 12th?? That would make him the second highest paid player on our team right behind champ bailey. Which is way too much money to spend on a QB that has yet to prove he’s worth more than back-up money.

by JALefor on Mar 15, 2010 2:21 PM MDT up reply actions

I understand that but McDaniels was going to do it last year so whats changed since then?

by dsbpac on Mar 15, 2010 9:43 AM MDT reply actions

That's not true

McD has said repeatedly that he was contacted about cassell, listened politely and said no thanks.

No he wasn't

Again.

It was reported that we tried to deal Cutler to Cleveland for Quinn (and picks), but the Browns squashed that, so it’s not out of the realm to thing that we got Quinn because we wanted Quinn. There were ZERO reports about us trying to get Cassel, all the reports said was that OTHER teams contacted us about Cassel.

by Darin H on Mar 15, 2010 12:21 PM MDT up reply actions

his contract

was a carryover from being franchised by the Pats, which put him at the average of the top 5 paid QB’s as per the CBA. Which KC had to honor, but they reworked the pay schedule by extending his contract. But the 15 million was already guaranteed.

by JALefor on Mar 15, 2010 2:34 PM MDT up reply actions

McDaniels was not going to do that last year.

He listened to an offer and turned it down. He never went after Cassel. He could have had him if he wanted him since what he was offered was a better deal than the Patriots eventually got for Cassel. I wish everybody would quit believing the MSM crap that McD went after Cassel last year. It’s getting old.

C'mon draft! I am ever the optimist! What a fun time of year!

Are you saying...

Broncos send Quinn, a 2nd or 3rd and a 7th to the Chiefs for Cassel?

I’ll take my chances with Quinn then.

Step aside, my friend, I been doin' it for years.

Even in an uncapped year

The FO probably has a budget in mind. It likely depends upon what they do with Elvis, Marshall, and other potential signings.

by BroncosRock! on Mar 15, 2010 9:53 AM MDT reply actions

I'm Saying...

I would not do this deal because i HATE CASSEL. It was just the first thought I had after this trade was done. I would rather stick with Quinn and Orton any day of the week. Just trying to see what everything thinks.

by dsbpac on Mar 15, 2010 9:54 AM MDT reply actions   1 recs

Good!!!

I thought you would enjoy this, I just threw up a little.

by JALefor on Mar 15, 2010 9:57 AM MDT up reply actions

I would cry if this happened

I can’t imagine giving away that many picks to get a QB who was dog crap last year, we spent two on Quinn, not to mention Hillis, and then to give another two and Quinn for Cassell, No thank you times infinity. Four picks and a player for Cassell??? This would be a move that would define the absolute downfall of the McDaniels Xanders regime. I don’t care what Cassell can do or how large we all believe McD has a man-crush on him, this is a scenario that needs to be avoided. IMO

by JALefor on Mar 15, 2010 9:56 AM MDT reply actions

I completely agree

but some of the comments and posts we get about it make it seem like we believe he would do anything to hold him again.

by JALefor on Mar 15, 2010 9:59 AM MDT up reply actions

Wow, that is an awful lot to give up for Cassel. I don't like that.

Not to mention the enormous amount of cash that we’d owe Cassel.

You know Marvel I wouldn't say he is a bum...But he is a stretch of the imagination if they consider him a "franchise" QB!

He has been a successful backup and that is all and for them to pay nearly twice as much as Cutler that is stretching the imagination pretty thin…

by bfree2bronc on Mar 15, 2010 11:04 AM MDT up reply actions

Cassell is not a bum

He played very well in NE in 08, and did OK last year in KC, considering he had no O line and only one receiver. He took a lot of hits and got right back up. He’s a good QB, and I’d rather have him in Denver than Quinn. But not for more draft picks and not at his cost.

your argument for Cassell with no O-line help

sums up the entire NFL career for Quinn. So why is Cassell better than Quinn? I think the biggest argument is this:

Brady Quinn – $700K(if he takes less than 70% snaps)
Matt Cassell- $11.75M

I don’t think Quinn is Christ but I’m a lot happier with him on the team than any scenario at all that would give us Cassell

by JALefor on Mar 15, 2010 2:26 PM MDT up reply actions

Why did you turn my comment about Cassell...

…into a Cassell vs. Quinn thing?

This post is really a stretch and likely from a Chef fan.

I wouldn’t trade Orton for Cassel straight up (based on talent). I wouldn’t trade Quinn for Cassel straight up (based on contracts).

I would trade Bradstater for Cassel straight up just to make the Chefs worse. If that happened (absurd I know) I still think Cassel would ride pine behind Orton and possibly Quinn.

In my opinion.

by McGeorge on Mar 15, 2010 10:24 AM MDT reply actions

I was not sure.

Some Chef fans have been around MHR lately talking nonsense about Dorsey’s excellence, Cassel and their 2010 chances being pretty good.

I always have to let them know where their team REALLY stands.

In my opinion.

by McGeorge on Mar 15, 2010 11:50 AM MDT up reply actions

We stand...

54 wins and 45 losses in the series with the Broncos….

Games in 2010 thus far…
1-0 Chiefs
0-1 Broncos

Not bad where I’m standing.

Jamaal Charles...Enough said.

by Chiefsfan85 on Mar 15, 2010 2:51 PM MDT up reply actions

There you go with the crazy Chef fans.

Dorsey had one sack in 2009 after his monster rookie season with one sack. He did add one more tackle for loss in 2009. THAT is some kind of output for the 5th overall pick in the NFL draft. Of course he is drawing attention away from his awesome teammates that racked up an NFL historical low sack total in 2008 followed up with another poor sack season in 2009 once the Chefs added Tyson (bust 2) Jackson.

O happy day Chef fans.

In my opinion.

by McGeorge on Mar 15, 2010 9:19 PM MDT up reply actions

A day in the box has done you good! You’re back in full form! lol

"All we're trying to do is win the *********** game!" -- Josh MF McDaniels tearing into his offensive line after three false starts in the red zone. The tirade turned the tide of the game, and the Broncos dominated from that point on.

by broncosmontana on Mar 15, 2010 11:10 AM MDT up reply actions

The Chiefs are stuck with Cassel whether they like it or not!

Signing him to the enormous contract was wreckless behavior on Paoli part and they will live with it. Cassel IMO isn’t the quarterback Quinn is and may never be. If you have been paying attention to what the Chiefs have done in 2009 free agency, trades and the draft, you can paint a picture of where they are going. Don’t get all tangled in the Bill Williamson analysis of the Chiefs making themselves that much greater than the Broncos did or have in the same time frame. They haven’t and their record shows that and even if we went 8-8 last year we still with all of the turnover in player personel made better decisions in trades, free agency and the draft. Picking Tyson jackson was a gross mistake considering the fact that their OLine was weak and needed serious upgrade. If your going to pay 60 million dollars for your quarterback to get slammed on his back then it was a great move. Let the Chiefs be them selves and we will be ours…

by bfree2bronc on Mar 15, 2010 10:59 AM MDT reply actions

well I understand what you are saying bfree2bronc but

the Chiefs arent stuck with Cassel. They could actually unload him after this season and it wouldnt hurt much. This will be a big season for Cassel to determine if he is the answer. Saying that I do not wish Cassel to leave KC or be traded.

by tomahawk44 on Mar 15, 2010 1:42 PM MDT up reply actions

Cassel is a system QB.

He showed he could be good in McD´s system, and I think he could be again, but I can´t see it happening for 2 reasons.
1. Now the cost/benefit is out of whack. Cassel´s contract is worth more than he is and he´ll likely have to get cut to move on.
2. This would be akin to Pioli admitting that his signature move was an error. He can´t do that if he wants to keep his job. Pioli´s job is linked to Cassel´s success now.

To the Broncos: Matt Cassel
To the Chiefs: Brady Quinn, a 2nd round pick and J-man (As we all know he’s really a Chiefs fan)
