Broncos Cut Simms
Pretty much expected this....

A day after trading for quarterback Brady Quinn from Cleveland, the Broncos on Monday cut backup QB Chris Simms.
Simms, who played in parts of two games last season, was set to make $2.54 million next season.
In Week 11, Simms started against the Chargers in Denver. But he was benched after only three series in favor of an injured Kyle Orton. It was just Simms' second start since 2006.
The Broncos now have three quarterbacks on their roster: Orton, Quinn and second-year pro Tom Brandstater.
Orton, who's in Hawaii attending the NFL union meetings, said on Sunday after the Quinn trade: "We've made a lot great moves this offseason and this is another one. (Quinn) is a great player and I'll be happy to work with him."
The other moves Orton referred to were mostly about the Broncos revamping their defensive line with the signings of Jamal Williams, Justin Bannan and Jarvis Green.
Orton said he had to talked to Broncos coach Josh McDaniels before the trade for Quinn was executed.
"I will keep that private but I do have total confidence that I'm the guy there," Orton said. "Just like every year I'm going in to try and earn my starting job. I don't think I have anything to fret."

Quinn can't be any worse...

Sure
You could argue that a ham sandwich was better than Simms last year, but getting Quinn, who I thought we’d do last season is an improvement. He’s familiar with the overall system and the offseason will help dust off his old notes, so to speak.
When the inevitable occurs with Orton (another ankle injury no later than week 10,) I think Quinn will be a more solid backup and may give our team a chance to win in those 1-3 games.
Hopefully all of the Tim Tebow talk will die now. One can only hope, right? (=

TheThank you FOOTBALL GODS!!
Thank god SISSY SIMMS is gone!!
No need for that

Well, that was classless
Any player who tries to engineer a comeback during a game in which he has a ruptured spleen should be exempt from every being called a sissy. I don’t usually say this, but that was a totally ridiculous comment. He wasn’t able to come back afterword, but his courage is apparent to anyone with common sense.

McX is fast
I’ve been gone for a week on my honeymoon and I can’t believe all of the roster changes I am seeing after such a brief hiatus!
I’m sorry to see Hillis go in this trade, but I believe the team is improving by the day. This is a very exciting month for us.

Thanks very much
Been doing that all day, to the point where I may get in trouble pretty soon. But I shall return soon enough. There’s been a lot to soak in today!

Ok...Stevie Wonder saw this coming! His release simply means Quinn passed his physical....Yawn!
Take the 1.8M and go after Dwan Edwards! Getting him, along with signing Quinn eliminates 3 draft needs (DE/QB/DT)….we can focus on OFFENSE< OFFENSE<OFFENSE. Ok, I know we need LB’s too, but trades and FA isnt over yet? Im just sayin…

what i’m curius about is why hasn’t Dwan signed anywhere yet, despite being brought in several places. Are people worried about his injury?
We should shift the money over to Doom or a C before we worry about getting another DE.

Hmmmm....
Do you think we messed up with simms? I think we should have tried to trade him for the Lions Assistant Water Boy because he had a better chance of throwing a Pass to OUR TEAM and not another PICK 6…
Im still going to throw out a possible Quinn for Cassel swap at some point!
I mentioned this yesterday, but it makes sense on so many levels and with the interworkings between Pioli/McD/Weis/Crennel, don’t rule out anything. Im getting ready for big news on several fronts. Things have gotten very quiet….?
Also, does anyone think we’re about to trade or cut Marcus Thomas. He and Scheffler could be great fits in DC….Anyone see this as a possiblity?
Simms wouldnt even be a #1 Assistant Waterboy, that deal couldnt get done! Sorry!

I hope we do trade thomas
he is a penetrator on the inside and really belongs in a 4-3 as a 3-technique DT. He’s not strong enough against the run to play in our 3-4. Last year, we didn’t have anyone better to fill in, but after these FA signings, I hope that he’s sent to a team where his talents can be used more appropriately – this move would be better for him and for us.

Just got off the phone with the lions!!
Well I just got off the phone with the lions and asked them if they would have thought about a trade with simms for the Lions Practice Squad 3rd String Water Boy that can always switch over to Towel boy if needed. They laughed at me on the phone and said they have a hybrid water boy and the trade is not fair so we need to bring more to the table

C'mon Gang,
Let’s show a little class. As Emmett mentioned above, Simms is a guy who suffered a life-threatening injury, sat for the better part of 2 years, then attempted a comeback.
The fact that he didn’t make, means only that, he wasn’t able to make a successful comeback. Not a reason he should be vilified.

Methinks 'tis a gang of one.
Simms has courage, and very bad luck. I hope he can get his career back on track, but if you read about the physical difficulties he has faced since the surgery, it is going to be hard. Peace and luck be with you Chris.
Agreed.
Good luck to Chris Simms. A good guy who has had a serious run of more than just bad luck.
AGREED
and out of curiosity, is the sn a coincidence or are you, in fact, the father of Brady Quinn?

Hey...We all wish Chris Simms well, he's a class guy!
Im just thinking about all the folks blogging about how bad Orton was initially and how Chris Simms should be starting…aka Woody Paige! Im just sayin…hey Woody, what do you think now, Nostrapotaumus!!!!!!!!!.
"Attitude reflects Leadership" Hogblog...aka KSM
Woody reminds me of an old radio newscast
And not just his age, either….the announcer had a slip of the tongue and called a ‘high White House source’ a ‘high, white horse souse’. A fitting tribute to Mr. Paige ;-)
