Trading Down
I am very interested in the possibility of trading down from #11 in this draft. I think if two or three additional young guys can be added behind the veterans that we have, then it will pay off huge in the long-run. I have been spending some time the past couple of days looking at who might fall to #11 and which teams would be interested in going up to get them. If you guys have any additional thoughts on players and teams that might want to move up to get them, then please let me know.
1) QB Claussen - if he somehow falls then there may be a couple of teams hoping to move up and grab him. The team that everyone would be interested in moving ahead of would be the seahawks(#14).
The seahawks may still move up to ensure they get him as well as: San Francisco (#13), Arizona(#26), Minnesota(#30). All 3 teams have a need for a QB especially if Favre retires, keep in mind that San Francisco would be moving up to ensure the right to get him, they pick before Seattle but would make the move for fear of someone else trading up to #11 or #12.
2) HB Spiller - with Miami(#12) being a darkhorse to take him (Ricky Williams is approaching the end, and Ronnie Brown had another serious injury.) and then San Francisco and Seattle also being linked to spiller at the next two picks. Either of them may want to jump ahead of Miami, and these teams may want to get ahead of all three: Pittsburgh(#18, pair him with Mendenhall), Houston(#20), Cincinnati(#21). very rarely do teams move up for a HB, knowing that other options are always availble later on, so this is probaly the least likely scenario.
3) OT - one of the big 5 (Russell Okung, Brian Bulaga, Bruce Campbell, Trent Williams, and Anthony Davis) will most likely be available when the Broncos pick at #11. If it is just one of them, then it means there will have been a small run of OT ahead of Denver, and there has been a run of OT in recent drafts. A couple teams may want to move up to secure the last of the elite group before San Farncisco and Seattle pick at #13 and #14.
Seattle would make sense as a trade partner to get ahead of San Francisco as well as: Green Bay(#23), Philadelphia(#24, Andy Reid loves to draft lineman but not likely at all), Arizona(#26, Mike Gandy ended season on IR and was a liability when he was on the field), Indianapolis(#31, almost never trade-up in round 1 so that removes them, but they do have a need for a LT.)
4) CB Haden - There will be a couple of teams very interested in getting ahead of San Francisco at #13.
Tennessee(#16, an upgrade at the second corner spot over Harper who is 35 is desperately needed), Pittsburgh(#18, they need a corner and Haden fits the tough pittsburgh style who can also help in the run game), Atlanta(#19), Houston(#20)
5) DE/OLB Pierre-Paul - With Miami being a likely suitor at #12, San Francisco may be interested in moving ahead although they have decent players at the Rush-LB spot in Haralson, Lawson, Brooks). Only a possibility for a 3-4 team to trade up.
6) DE Derrick Morgan - With the Giants being linked to Morgan at #15, and Seattle at #14 desperately needing a DE.
The Giants may want to move ahead of Seattle and these teams may want to move ahead of both the Giants and Seahawks: Tennessee(#16, just lost Vanden Bosch), and Atlanta(#19, need to help out Abraham)
I don't feel overly confident that any of these trades will happen, however trading down is a possibility and part of the draft. I think if Denver wants to trade down, they may be in an ideal position to do so. If you believe like I do that DE and LT are the two most important positions behind a QB then the possibility of one of those offensive tackles being available or Derrick Morgan would give teams reason to trade up.
I am very interested to hear what other players and teams you guys think could be possible scenarios.

Wow, great stuff.
All of these seem like pretty legit possibilities. The Spiller idea seems the most likely, to me. I am becoming more and more convinced that Miami is in the market for a young RB. Spiller would be an interesting weapon for them to add to their wildcat. If another team values Spiller pretty highly, then they might want to jump into our spot.
Nice thinking DW. +1
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

The possibilities are endless.
I would take Joe Haden at 11 if he was still there, both Champ and Goodman are aging and a prospect like Hade would be great addition to A Smith who IMO will get most of his reps in nickle situations. Anyway it wouldn’t hurt to have 2 young studs on the corners…
I don't think Haden is that much of a question mark
Ohhh wait a minute, you meant Smith? We would never have guessed

What I would pay to have a live feed into the McX war room
as the draft unfolds. Wouldn’t be cool if that’s the next thing to come out? The day after the draft you can purchase the previous days draft war room tape from you team to see how it all went down…….fans would have never felt closer and part of the club. You could probably charge ALOT for that feature. Maybe I should have kept this idea to myself. HA. sorry, rant. I say trade down IF our #2 guys aren’t there: whoever those two guys are
Fans would love it,
but, man alive, the MSM (and any “haters”, even from other teams) have a field day with the mind games.
wish we could…but that would give other teams too much insight into what particular teams think

well "live" is the dream, a 48 or 72 hr delay, edited would be the product,
still just dreamin’ I guess.
sorry- My bad....I confused you
read it as "but, holy cow, the MSM (etc) would have a field day with the mind games. " Even presented in a delayed fashion, they would be second guessing any statement that gave reasons for the choices made….and not out of love for our team.

I wonder if McX would take a T and move Harris inside to G if he is healthy. Clady, Harris, Olsen, Kuper, Bulaga doesn’t sound too bad. Then we take a G in round 3 or 4 like Jerry who can swing and fill in for injuries or Harris if he isn’t ready.
yeah i’ve been wondering that myself. the question mark is how helpful would it be to move Harris to G vs drafting a G instead

On moving Harris - highly unlikely
Why would you? He’s one of the best RTs in the AFC, perhaps in the league. You don’t take a player like that and move him to guard. It’s a lot easier to find a guard and a lot harder to develop a good tackle. I do like the idea of drafting a good tackle, just on the basis that you’ll lose player games to injury almost every year, and Polumbus didn’t play well enough, IMO, to keep. I’m not suggesting Bulaga, but this is a deep draft for the OL. We need a guard, perhaps a center, and a third tackle. We don’t know what’s happening with Olsen or Fry, McChesney or Baptiste, and knowing about those would tell us a lot. How rude of Denver not to be more forthcoming before the draft ;-)
It all starts with the lines
Why not play the drafted tackle at guard
Harris has proven himself as an elite RT.
If they draft a Tackle, then why not play the rookie at guard especially in his first season. No rookie will play better then a healthy Harris.
If they draft tackle at #11, I would expect the rookie to play guard, and shift out to tackle if Harris proves to not be healthy or gets hurt down the road
I'm still on the McClain Train
But I try to keep an open mind. We need massive help on the offensive line, not just the one or two starters we need, but also depth. So, the more picks the better. I’m open to it, and you list good options as to players that might generate interest for teams to move up.
If McClain was there, I would hope we take him. That kind of leadership is more special than gold. Dawk won’t last forever. Andra Davis was the signal barker for the front seven, and he’s gone. Without McClain there, I would see trading down as the best option, depending of course, on the assumption that no crazy-great picks are still on the board.
Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!
I agree
That there are a couple options that I would personally look at. Such as drafting McClain or Dan Williams (who can possibly play some rotational DE as well as NT).
It will be a very interesting draft though, because I have no clue what to suspect
love the idea of trading back....especially in a deep draft like this ones supposed to be
in fact id put the word out that i dont need jimmy johnson type compinsation……unless they call me first :) good thoughts DW76
luckily im a bronco and a blazer fan......#52 is family
If the Broncos are truly targeting a player likely to go in the 16-24 range then I’d prefer to see them take ANYTHING and trade back than to reach on that player. Take a 4th, whatever. You save money and get a pick.
I’m not saying don’t squeeze all the value you can, but if you truly want to trade back and are having a re hard time getting full value, then why not sacrifice a bit of trade value to do so? I’m sure there’d be a taker if the Broncos are determined to trade back.
