Marshall to the Jets?

While reading ESPN (rumors) they suggested that the Jets would being willing to package a deal that includes Braylon Edwards for Marshall.  I am wondering what us Bronco fans think would be a good deal.  Would Braylon Edwards and either their 2nd or 3rd round pick be good enough or would the Broncos be better off with David Harris (ILB) and either their 2nd or 3rd.  What do you think and what do we want MCD to do with Marshall?

I would rather get picks, But........

If Edwards + their 2nd and 3rd I agree. Don’t think the Jets wants to send Harris +2nd or 3rd to keep Marshall and Edwards on the roster.
But Edwards is a guy that could start or be a good rotational player and we could use the 2 extra picks to keep improving our team.

David Harris, 2nd and 3rd, No Edwards, don't like him

With Marshall we are in the position of power. We can keep him this year, and then we still don’t have to let him leave via free agency we can franchise tag him and keep him yet another year. Realistically we coulld keep Marshall the next 2 years without having to trade him or sign him to a long term contract. Now if Seattle forces our hand we can match his market value or take their #1 pick. We have all the options open to us.

Totally agree

The Broncos hold all the cards here. The message we can gather from the front office so far is that Marshall will be wearing orange and blue next year unless someone is willing to give us a really sweet deal. So far nothing has been sweet enough and we know Seattle was very interested. I don’t think the Jets will be willing to part with Edwards and several nice draft picks in order to pick up Marshall, which is what it will take.

I'de rather have the picks

The New England system doesn’t call for a flashy wide out, they we’re winning super bowls with a bunch of no-names. i don’t want edwards or Harris. i rather have the picks. I think we all know the Broncos will either trade Marshall for the 6th pick to Seattle or he stays.

by valas40 on Mar 16, 2010 12:14 PM MDT reply actions

I'm not big on Edwards.

He makes great plays that nobody else can make, then he drops an easy ball that will give you a first down. I would venture to say that Edwards is the worst of the hyped receivers in the NFL.

I’d rather take the picks.

If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Think he meant Marshal can catch tthe football.

Edwards sure seems to need glasses, or maybe fingers.

Some Jets fans are worried

and are hoping that this is untrue.

If we obtained David Harris and at least a 3rd for Marshall, that would be another steal to add to the list of steals that McX have already done over the past year.

The Jets blogs I read in regard to the Marshall possibility. They aren’t worried they are friggin pi$$ed off about it. I don’t see Marshall going to the Jets.

Absolutely no to Edwards

Less than 36 hours ago we had people post comments on this site claiming one of the reasons Quinn had some issues in Cleveland was because he had no one to throw to.

Braylon Edwards for BMarsh?? Not a chance. Doesn’t improve us at all, just fills a void with a lesser quality player. Plus it improves a Conference rival at the same time.

On the flip side, Harris and a 2 and possibly a 4th or 5th rounder would address our ILB depth, and gives us a chance at someone like Golden Tate (or a falling Dez Bryant perhaps, if some recent comments have suggested!) to replace BMarsh. We could then draft a Rolando McClain, move DJ to an OLB position (no, I’m not convinced about that either!), and all of a sudden, our LB corps is the envy of the league!

All good daydreaming. Don’t see it happening to be honest. There’s a reason why the Jets would consider trading Edwards and not Harris. Something to do with the fact that Harris would be harder to replace….

From a Northern Ireland Bronco fan, nice post sir!

Doesn't sound like a trade with the Jets is happening

Yeah, no complaining here unless they're willing to give up Mangold and Harris

Now you’re talking. More in line with an equitable trade, in my eyes… Oh and exchange our 4th for their 3rd…. Always good to overbid and then let the opponent think they’ve made you compromise! Not a lot of support in the posts for Mr Edwards so far…

by MileHighMan on Mar 16, 2010 1:16 PM MDT up reply actions

lol

Edwards is lucky if he can even find stadium. He was a bust with the browns and was lucky that the jets needed a WR that bad that they traded for him. I don’t even know if he would make our team with talent we have at WR these days. McD has to be thinking it’s Harris all the way or no package deal and if we could somehow get a 3rd round pick with it as well, I think this off season might very well make up for the jay cutler soap opera last year.

by wisco on Mar 16, 2010 1:12 PM MDT reply actions

NO NO NO NO

Edwards = THE SUCK

I’m sorry, but to even be in the running as a WR in the NFL you have to be able to consistently catch the ball when it is thrown to you. This guy makes some horrendous drops way way way worse than Marshall 2 years ago.

Jets want to win now

The Jets are doing everything they can to win this year, they think they have all the pieces, except maybe a big time WR. Marshall makes them drool. The problem is they have little to offer that the Broncos want, save Mangold or Harris, and those guys are 2 of the reasons the Jets are closer to the big game.Hard to imagine the Jets parting with their stud center & LB, BUT if they are willing we should jump! I’d take Mangold in a heartbeat, he was great at Ohio State and has been great in New York and we desperately need a great center.

by buckeyebronco on Mar 16, 2010 2:36 PM MDT reply actions

Davis Harris and picks for Marshall? Are you kidding?

The Jets would NEVER trade Harris and picks to Denver for Marshall. I doubt they would trade Harris for Marshall straight up.

Harris is a pro bowl talent, and young as well. If they traded Harris, they’d have an immediate need at LB. Why would they do that?

Braylon Edwards is bad news. He is not a very good WR. Going from Marshall to Edwards would be a big step back in talent and production. I’d want at least their 2nd round pick and 4th round picks with Edwards. Edwards would be the Orton of the Jay Cutler trade (the throw in – not the center piece).

In my opinion.

by McGeorge on Mar 16, 2010 4:29 PM MDT reply actions

I like the "throw-in" analogy at the end.

It was the draft picks that made that trade, not the direct swap of QBs. Same situation here. If we HAVE to lose Marshall, let’s start the negotiations thus; " Give me your first round pick, then add in your best offer…better make it good". I honestly don’t see too many scenarios that give us equal value. The suggestion of the Tampa Bay offer came closest, but seems unlikely to me when I view it from their side. Seattle, of course, could be just hangin’out to see what develops, hoping we get fidgety (NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, imho).

by idahobronc on Mar 16, 2010 4:47 PM MDT up reply actions

Brandon Marshall is worth to Denver than any other team. If we lose him, we WILL be getting back cents on the dollar. Not sure if it will be $0.85 or $0.35.

I sure hope he stays.

In my opinion.

by McGeorge on Mar 16, 2010 8:12 PM MDT up reply actions

I'm with you on Marshall

I do consider, though, the idea that he could leave next year for nothing. If that’s the likely option we face, I’d prefer we get something now, than nothing later. Players are preferable to draft picks, IMO. I wouldn’t cry about Harris or Mangold for Marshall straight up, no matter how likely/unlikely.

Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!

by Alex on Mar 16, 2010 10:05 PM MDT up reply actions

What about....

Bailey, Marshall, Scheffler and maybe a future pick to to the Jets for Mangold and Harris? We then take Haden with #11 if he falls and trade a 3rd and conditional next year to NE for Randy Moss? Any thoughts?

by Pembisito on Mar 16, 2010 6:54 PM MDT up reply actions

I’d crap my pants at the stupidity of the NYJs.

Teams don’t usually trade their best young players and Harris and Mangold great young players.

McD trades away great young players and my belief is that this will come back to haunt him.

In my opinion.

by McGeorge on Mar 16, 2010 8:04 PM MDT up reply actions

2 Pro Bowlers

We trade 2 pro bowlers for 1 pro bowler (I think Mangold went this year but no Harris) and throw in Sheffler and a pick to complete. Marshall and Sheffler are around 26, same as Mangold and Harris, and Bailey is 31? and has a few years left in the tank. Him and Revis would be quite the tandem at CB and would seem to be able to compensate for the loss of Harris. Bailey is getting old but if the Jets truly believe they are getting close to the SB they could pick up these 3 guys, take Pouncey with their #1 and sign an older ILB FA. Maybe you are right about the stupidity of the trade, but you gotta give to get.

by Pembisito on Mar 16, 2010 8:50 PM MDT up reply actions

They don't need Bailey

They’ve got three great corners

I may be wrong...

Please forgive the cliché intended to protect the anonymity of the originator of the following comment, but here goes: A very reliable source indicates that of all the teams in the league, the likelihood of a deal for Brandon Marshall getting done with the Jets is as low as can be. No discussions have been held, according to this person. My own speculation is that something about Brandon that the Jets either discovered or intuited last year has precluded any interest on their part. My purpose in sharing this is not to imply that I run in any exclusive circles, or generally have any inside information about the Broncos in general: I am simply relaying what would legally be deemed heresay, but information I believe to be accurate.

Personally, I would just as soon have my 80 year old mother playing wide out as Edwards: I’ve witnessed firsthand her hand-to-eye coordination and I believe it to be superior to Braylon’s. Our Broncos have allowed Brandon to test the waters and see firsthand what the market may be for his services. As unappealing as it may be for Brandon to accept, I think a contract similar to what I have heard was proposed to him on the morning of the infamous punting try-out, which allegedly offered a fair bit of compensation tied to language mandating good citizenship, will be the best Brandon can expect. I hope he signs such a contract with the Broncos.

That’s the problem with having television and internet information readily to hand – people can watch things like Marshall’s outbursts, childish tantrums and earnest promises of change for themselves. It might happen that he does change, but over the past 2 years, he’s been acting out pretty consistently. Perhaps Ryan simply doesn’t want the headaches or the change of a major suspension.

It all starts with the lines

How about Edwards for Marshall,

a swap of the 1st round picks, and the Jets throw in a third. I think that’s pretty fair.

by higgyhoops12 on Mar 16, 2010 8:01 PM MDT reply actions

How about Harris for Marshall straight up....

two young stars in a swap…I like it….Harris might not have quite the star power that BM does, but he also doesn’t have baggage, and plays a position that I value higher than WR.

by Kgrone on Mar 16, 2010 8:14 PM MDT up reply actions

I'm not sure most teams would rank ILB

as a higher position than WR. I would probably like Harris for Marshall, though. To our team, in a 5-2, the ILB’s have more responsibility and more worth – they’re more important.

Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!

NO DEAL

Jets #1 & 3 or #1 and Harris other wise we stand pat. I for one hope Brandon stays. Broncos better with him then without him. Brandon Marshall worth more next year when there is no cap.
