Broncos Mock Draft

I think I might be going against the grain on some of these picks but judge from last years draft I could be as right as anybody as long a the picks make sense. Hopefully it might bring to light some players that we're either missing or the role they played on their college does not fit what they could play in Denver's Scheme and therefore are not on MHR's Radar.

Star-divide

1st Round

Bryan Bulaga (OL) Iowa - Yes I know that the Denver Broncos do not need a Left Tackle but think for a second about Bulaga's versatility to play both guard and tackle positions on the offensive line. Depending on how Ryan Harris recovers from his injury you have a possible replacement for him or you can plug him into either guard position and he should be very successful. To me Bulaga seem much more of a versatile finished product than say Iupati from Idaho. He would be a great asset to the Broncos as a starting guard or can slide over into a tackle positions if the need arises. I wouldn't get to caught up with him being a tackle, think more along the lines of Offensive Lineman (quick side note is that he did start his college career at guard. Many Evalutor project Bulaga to be one of the top OL men drafted but if he slides out of the first round be might be the Best Player available and at a position of need.

2nd Round

Demaryius Thomas (WR) Georgia Tech - Here is hoping that this guys falls all the way to where we can draft him in the second round. He is big, tall and would be a great addition to the Broncos receiving core. His not a perfect receiver and will need some coaching but he could be an excellent #2 wide receiver across the feild from Brandon Marshall which would hopefully free Royal up for the Welker type slot position. He has great blocking ability, can get open and can catch everything you want in a wide receiver.

3rd Round

Eric Norwood (LB) South Carolina - To me it seems that Denver needs a really good run stopping SAM linebacker to play inside alongside D.J. Williams. This may sound a little off to some people but as far as I understand it a SAM or Strongside Linebacker is charged with playing against a TE (either beating a block  or covering), helping stop the run and blitzing the QB. Personally I think that Norwood would be a excellent in this type of roll. He is big and strong enough to be blocks, is a solid tackler and has go enough coverage skills to not be a liability. One thing I noticed last year from Andre Davis was how often he was asked to blitz. Norwood is a great blitzer having racked up 29 sacks in his career. If he can progress in his coverage skills he could mix it up on third downs.

4th Round

Al Woods (DL) LSU - Versatility and do your job pretty much sum up this guy. He can play any position on a 3-4 defensive front and while his stats don't jump out at you he will do what you ask of him. He is a guy who is going to be able to develop in Denver System and hopefully challenge for a starting because of the havoc he can put on OL at the line of scrimage.

6th Round

Zoltan Mesko (P) Michigan - I don`t think that I am satisfied with the players Denver currently has at this position. Everywhere I`ve read has said this guy in the number 1 Punter in the draft. Though he might not be the best joke teller... NFL Draft Scout a weird quote from him.

7th Round

Trindon Holliday (WR) LSU - Fast, will make defenders miss and might get lost in the traffic on the kick return.

Punter...

good draft, I just think Punter isn’t even a priority.. there are other punters out there. I mean do we want a solid ST, YES! I just don’t want to sit back at the end of draft day and say… “Well, at least we got that punter situation covered.” Also I like your Bryan Bulaga (OL) Iowa. Versatility is our #1 need for our OL.

You’re undervaluing the position. We NEED a solid punter, and having an elite one would be terrific.

Interesting Mock Draft

I like Bulaga alot and he would be a great addition.

I hope that D. Thomas will be there in 2nd but every Mock draft still has him in 1st but we could hope.

Um Jaggedlron, did you see our punting situation last year,

I would love to sit back at the end of the day and say “hey, at least we got the punter taken care of”. It was awfull last year and thats being nice. If there were punters to be had we’d have them. You wouldn’t want a Scifers or Lechler? C"mon. Nice draft.

NIce draft!

I love the Bulaga pick. If he falls to us at 11, I hope we get him. Trent Williams could also be a solid option. Any of the top tackles in the draft could slide over to LG and shore up that position for us. The reason picking up another tackle appeals to me so much is as an insurance plan for if Harris can’t recover from his toe injury, or continues to have injury problems. A line with 3 top tier tackles would be just what the doctor ordered, IMO.

Also, I don’t think we have a shred of a chance of getting Holliday in the 7th, he should be gone well before that.

I love the Norwood and Thomas picks too…

Like it,

If you replace Holliday with a developmental center prospect i would like it even more.. Not too keen on Holliday he seemed a bit simple-minded in his combine interview don’t think he would fit the smart, tough, physical mould that McD drafts.
