2010 Mock Draft V. 1

Here's my first (official) Broncos mock draft with no trades. Tell me what you think.

Star-divide

Round 1, Pick 11

Rolondo McClain, ILB, Alabama

6' 4" 254 lbs

Ncf_u_mcclain_400_medium

via a.espncdn.com

Don't need to go into this one too much seeing as how he's one of the most popular picks for us here. Has great instincts and leadership, and earned the Butkus Award as the nation's top linebacker while playing for national champion Alabama last year. Could step in right away and lead the defense for the next decade.

Round 2, Pick 45

Cam Thomas, NT, North Carolina

6' 4" 330 lbs

North_carolina_v_boston_college_jzizxgygvxal_medium

via www3.pictures.zimbio.com

A big, powerful tackle that really caught scouts' eyes at the Senior Bowl, Thomas seems to be a perfect fit at nose tackle. He'd be able to learn behind Jamal Williams for a couple years while being a part of the rotation, and could step in if Williams goes down or when he retires.

Round 3, Pick 80

John Jerry, OG, Mississippi

6' 6" 328 lbs

Jj92_medium

via cdn.cloudfiles.mosso.com

The holes along the lines are obvious. A guard and center are needed, and Jerry is just the type of big man who excels at run blocking that McDaniels is looking for to help secure the trenches

Round 4, Pick 111

J.D. Walton, C, Baylor

6' 3" 300 lbs

via grfx.cstv.com

Walton is a consistent player who should compete for a starting job immediately, especially if another center isn't signed soon. Should help solidify the offensive line for years.

Round 6, Pick 173

Myron Rolle, S, Florida State

6' 2" 215 lbs

Myron_rolle_medium

via 1.bp.blogspot.com

If Rolle is available here, this pick shouldn't take very long. A Rhodes Scholar who spent the last year studying as Oxford, he is a versatile safety with good speed and solid tackling.

Round 7, Pick 204

Jamar Wall, CB, Texas Tech

5' 10" 204 lbs

Ttvtuwall_medium

via www.doubletnation.com

At this point in the draft, Wall would be drafted as depth and will compete for a roster spot with 2009 rookie Tony Carter. He plays well in zone coverage and is the type of hard worker you look for in any player.

Recap

1. Rolando McClain, ILB, Alabama

2. Cam Thomas, NT, North Carolina

3. John Jerry, OG, Mississippi

4. J.D. Walton, C, Baylor

6. Myron Rolle, S, Florida State

7. Jamar Wall, CB, Texas Tech

Admirable effort…

You’re a man who’s into the whole brevity thing. I appreciate that. No speculation about Marshall or Scheffler trades, either. This would be a solid draft, if it were to develop like this. I particularly like the Rolle pick. I think he could develop exceptionally well, particularly under the tutelage of Dawkins. I find it absurd that some teams find his Rhodes Scholarship a deterrent. Well done, Broncoman27.

Best so far

I think this is the best and most reasonable so far. I could live with this draft very well.

Great Mock draft Broncoman27!

Simple, straightforward, and very realistic! This board could actually play out. Nice job!

This draft is BOMB

I love it!

A vision without a plan is just a dream. A plan without a vision is drudgery. But a vision with a plan can change the world.

That's a great compliment from the draft maker you are sayre

I agree. Very well laid out and reasonable. I wouldn’t be upset at all should the draft fall this way.

I'm glad we had this talk. -- TJ Johnson

Rolle won’t fall THAT far.

Scientific research has proven that you lose exactly 5.37 billion brain cells every time you listen to Todd McShay.

by TheRealSlimShady on Mar 17, 2010 10:28 PM MDT reply actions

I'd be sorta surprised if he did

But I was going off of nfldrafscout.com’s rankings, and they had in the 185 area.

by Broncoman27 on Mar 18, 2010 7:55 AM MDT up reply actions

WOW!

Looks like the best draft ever!!! However, some of these players may come off the board much ealrier than anticipated. But, I hope not.
Great Mock!

Plus- find a trade to get us an extra – early – pick so we can add a WR (E. Decker, C. Mitchell) to this mock.

by numeraluno on Mar 17, 2010 11:16 PM MDT reply actions

If we can get Rolle in the 6th, that would be awesome!

Abide, the dude does. Know you not, but comfort in that I take.

I don't think Walton will be there at that round.

He’ll be gone at the end of the 2nd or first part of the 3rd.

by CPT.Caveman on Mar 18, 2010 2:14 AM MDT reply actions

I"ve seen a lot of different things about Walton

The two sources I was using (nfldraftscout.com and the Pro Football Weekly Draft Guide) both had him in that area. I’ve also seen him mocked to us in the 2nd on walterfootball.com.

by Broncoman27 on Mar 18, 2010 7:57 AM MDT up reply actions

Yeah but i'll tell you this

If he is there at our 2b pick or even 3rd round pick we will draft him. We also have to look at stuff like do the Bronco’s like him, and should we take him to keep them from getting him :P

by CPT.Caveman on Mar 18, 2010 12:18 PM MDT up reply actions

I could see that happening

You bring up some good points. I’ll keep that in mind for my next mock, and I think I’ll have to have us going sooner if we want him.

by Broncoman27 on Mar 18, 2010 12:35 PM MDT up reply actions

Thanks

Except for 2 guys you listed, we have us drafting them in our mocks.

by CPT.Caveman on Mar 18, 2010 2:26 PM MDT up reply actions

Here's mine

1- Berry FS
2- Jerry Hughes DE/OLB
2b- J.D Walton C
3- Linval Joseph NT
4- Micah Johnson ILB
5- Jimmy Graham TE
5b-Seyi Ajirotutu WR
5c- Al Woods NT

by CPT.Caveman on Mar 18, 2010 2:38 PM MDT up reply actions

Nice!

If we could land Berry, that would be great. So what sort of trades do you have going down there?

by Broncoman27 on Mar 18, 2010 5:19 PM MDT up reply actions

Sorry Broncoman

Not trying to trick ya, I just come in from time to time to see what’s going on, and who’s getting talked about in the draft. That draft is one i did for the Chiefs, with the picks we have right now.
My little brother is a Denver fan, so being a Chiefs fan has been tough to say the least, on X-mas, and other holiday’s.

by CPT.Caveman on Mar 18, 2010 8:56 PM MDT up reply actions

Ah, alright

I was wondering about the three 5th rounders. If you guys had that kind of draft that would definitely help improve your team, especially Berry and Hughes. The AFC West sure looks like it could be a lot more competitive soon.

by Broncoman27 on Mar 19, 2010 7:30 AM MDT up reply actions

Berry wont fall that far. Cmon.

Scientific research has proven that you lose exactly 5.37 billion brain cells every time you listen to Todd McShay.

by TheRealSlimShady on Mar 18, 2010 6:29 PM MDT up reply actions

Thanks to all!

I wasn’t expecting so much positive feedback, I really appreciate it!

by Broncoman27 on Mar 18, 2010 7:57 AM MDT reply actions

I doubt Myron Rolle will be there in the 6th...

He’ll probably go around 80th-95. That sounds like the 3rd round to me…Cam Thomas is the poor man’s Dan Williams and would be a great pick imo. JD Walton just because you liked the name? JD?

by bfree2bronc on Mar 18, 2010 9:31 AM MDT reply actions

Rolle could go anywhere from the 3rd-6th

But for the sake of this mock, I used nfldraftscout.com, which had him ranked about 185, which surprises me. I might not rely as much on those rankings for my next mock. The name wasn’t part of the consideration when I picked Walton. (But now you’ve got me wondering what J.D. stands for.)

by Broncoman27 on Mar 18, 2010 10:09 AM MDT up reply actions

Just for kicks

Check out who the other Texas Tech player in the picture of Wall is.
