The Fans Draft Strategy
One of the most fun things about the draft is that there are endless possibilities. Nobody knows what a team is going to do until it is done. With that being said, we are going to have a little fun. Everybody on this site is wondering the same questions about our team. We all know the weaknesses of our team. The way I see it, the places we need the most help are the Offensive Line, the ILB position, the Defensive Line, The Secondary and the WR in that order. The offensive line needs major help in the Center position and in the Guard position. The ILB position faces much uncertainty after the recent release of Andra Davis. We did help the Defensive Line, but the NT position is still very much in doubt since Jamal Williams has injury problems and is aging. Our secondary is getting older and we are going to need to start addressing certain positions. Lastly, we need another WR in order to move Royal into the slot. So I am starting a series of fan polls. This first one is going to start with the Center position.
The 08 Offensive Line was arguably the best one in the league. The 09 Offensive Line was painful to watch. After releasing Casey Weigmann, we have the most uncertainty at that position. We have Seth Olsen on the roster, but there has been no indication that he is ready for a starting position. There quite a few options in the draft as well as free agent Kevin Mawae. So Bronco fans, what do you think?

I think J.D. Walton will be there in the fourth
This is a very deep draft, and before Pouncey came out Tennant and Walton were probably the two best center prospects, both rated as 3rd-4th round picks. Tennant will probably be drafted before Walton, but I think Walton is a better fit for what the Broncos are looking for at center.
A vision without a plan is just a dream. A plan without a vision is drudgery. But a vision with a plan can change the world.
We stole him off Car. P.S.
and before that they stole him off Clev. P.S. He was taken in the 2007 draft at #139, which is top of 5th round. Here’s the scouting report when he came out.
Dustin Fry© Clemson
The All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection has been the anchor for the Tigers’ front wall ever since taking over full-time center duties as a sophomore. With his low center of gravity, girth and squat frame, Fry has made it a habit of putting defenders on their pants, registering 171 knockdowns while manning the pivot.
Much of the team’s success running with the football is because of Fry’s dominance in the middle, where more than 60 percent of the Tigers’ ground yardage was attained in 2006. The hard-nose drive blocker helped elevate the team’s rushing attack to fifth in the nation with an average of 217.85 yards per game
It is interesting
to note how split everyone is. Everyone is very much divided about this position. I was very surprised as to the number of people who want to sign Kevin Mawae. Interesting.
voted Walton in 3rd
But would really like to trade back in first and pick up extra pick and get Pouncey. I just don’t think that we will end up being able to move back.
I say draft Tennant if he falls to the third, which he might....
or take JD in the fourth. :)
Verbose in style, dispersion of thought, procrastination in life.
The guy formerly known as ZAPPA
I like
both of those. But it depends on what we do in the 1st round. If we waste our 1st rounder on a QB like Clausen instead of Pouncey I will be upset. If we get a player like McClain who is a good character player with great potential, then I won’t be upset in the slightest to get Tennant or JD.
sign mawae and draft
Signing Mawae makes center a long term need not a short term one. That way, if the team can trade back in Rd 1 and get Pouncey, great. If not, then they can pick up the best value OL in rounds 2-4. Drafting someone to start with no safety net would be foolish, no matter who the prospect is.
Interesting
Mawae is older, but he is still producing well in this league. However, we are moving to the new power blocking scheme. At 6 ft 4, 290 I’m not sure if that is what we are looking for, but you never know with McD.
Fry isn’t good. He was cut by the Browns and the Rams for a reason.
