Someone Always Falls..who will it be this year?

I have always said that 10-12 is one of the best spots to draft in the NFL as the money goes down considerably and the talent is still top notch at this level.  One thing that I have also noticed is 1 player always slips.  Usually a team moves up to get a player or another team takes a player that was never on anyone's top 10 board (hello Oakland..).  With that being said...who will be the player that falls this year.  My guess is it is Haden.  Not because he is not great, he is, but rather  I have a sneaking suspicion that Cleveland is going to find a way to trade up and take Bradford.

So 2 questions I have for everyone..who is going to be the player that drops the most & secondly if that player drops..do the Broncos take him?

I hope we trade up into the late 20’s and get Pouncey or Iupati, in line with popular opinion around here.

If we have to stick at 11, I hope Bulaga makes it to us. Adding another top-flight tackle that could play LG for us and be able to replace either Clady or more importantly Harris if he can’t stay healthy would be awesome. I would also be happy about Derrick Morgan falling to us as an inside linebacker.

Bryan Bulaga too small for McD's Oline

Either Vladimir Ducasse or Mike Iupati with 11th pick would add the “beef” we need to improve Red Zone scoring. Both are immediate starters along side of Ryan Clady…

Ducasse at 11? You have to be joking….

And Bulaga is 6’5’’ 314 pounds. Plenty big, dude.

by aLuffabo on Mar 21, 2010 11:11 AM MDT up reply actions

Bulaga came in over weight at 314

His playing weight last year was around 290…too small for tackle for McD’s power running system. Just my opinion…dude.

Bulaga too small?

Isn’t Bulaga (6-6, 325) the same weight as Iupati but faster and with a larger frame? Also regarded as further along. Like him better than either Iupati or Ducasse.

by ivanthenotsobad on Mar 21, 2010 11:23 AM MDT up reply actions

We need help at G

Both Lupati & Ducasse are guards at 330+. Ducasse could be a back up at Tackle and I think its the reason Broncos interviewed him. If Harris is still on IR from toe injury maybe Broncos draft Bulaga or Bruce Campbell at T. Just how it might shake out during the draft.

Don't you love the off-season

I think the prototype LT is 6’6" + at 330 lbs. Even if he’s 314 it’s still under sized for power running game again just my opinion.

I heard he was

6’8" and 340lbs…

Too small?

I heard on the radio that he was 7’1", 375lbs.

I blame Scott Hastings. He needs to stick to the trade of basketball, instead of the art of befuddling me.

I think it will be Carlos Dunlap, & I certainly hope we don’t take him. Reminds me too much of Jarvis Moss.

Haden may fall to us at 11

i see an extra left tackle jumping into the top 10
Would imagine we would take Haden if he fell to us, not exactly a boost of confidence for Smith. Also would mean we technically took a CB with the 11th and 14th pick in the same draft… sort of

by zclayro on Mar 20, 2010 8:15 PM MDT reply actions

Where would he start?

CB is not a need position going into the draft. We need a starter with the 11th pick other wise we should trade down to pick an Oline. ILB is a need position now that Andra Davis is gone. Hope we draft McClain.

oc60

by oc60 on Mar 21, 2010 12:33 AM MDT up reply actions

I disagree that CB isn't a position of need.....

It might not be our biggest hole, but by the BPA philosophy I would absolutely take Haden if he’s there. Both our corners are aging and I"d rather get a guy in to learn from them for a couple years rather than draft one the year Champ retires and throw him out there on his own.

Outside of Interior Oline I don’t think there’s any position that absolutely HAS to be addressed in the draft. (maybe ILB, but if Haggan can move there I think we’re ok).

by Kgrone on Mar 21, 2010 9:05 AM MDT up reply actions

The reason we drafted;

Alphonso Smith last year at CB he is Bailey’s under study as well as Goodman. We can never have enough CB’s & RB’s but I doubt McD would use the 11th pick for a backup role this year.

oc60

by oc60 on Mar 21, 2010 7:22 PM MDT up reply actions

Even if Smith pans out....

That still only gives us 3 good quality CBs, (Not sure how Nate works out yet) and considering 2 of them are on the wrong side of 30, and we generally play 3 at any given time I’d say CB is one of our biggest needs looking toward the future.

I am absolutely against drafting a player just to ‘start and fill a hole’ next year. Give me the player who will have the biggest impact over the next 3-5 years and beyond. That player in my mind is Haden, or possibly McClain, but the Crohn’s worries me there.

When you see Seattle trade for San Diego’s 3rd string QB, it shows you how desperate teams are to get a good QB prospect. Clausen is a good QB prospect so I think you’ll see him go no later than Buffalo @ 9.

In my opinion.

by McGeorge on Mar 21, 2010 6:49 AM MDT up reply actions   1 recs

I'm not a clausen fan

I could see BUF being a better fit than Shanny’s WCO, I’m just not sold he’s a top 10 QB. Watched him locally in HS and from afar at ND being a USC fan. I don’t think he could start his rookie year which is how I define a top 10 QB pick. Again, I’m biased though.

totally agree here

I also agree with someone above about Spikes. The guy did not impress on tape. He’s overrated and ILB position falls everytime.
Dez Bryant is the other one…..a classic media creation. Even if he wasn’t acting like an idiot he would fall. He’s been out of ball for a year. Most teams want something they can count of from a few months ago. Now he can’t even test…..He’s listening to some fool in his camp talk him up about how every mock has him at #10 w/ Denver. Big mistake

by BideshiBronco on Mar 21, 2010 9:20 PM MDT up reply actions

I feel like Haden will drop...

Considering that Cleveland may try and trade up to get a QB.
If he’s there at 11, I think we have to take him. ILB is not important enough/health issues with McClain, too high for interior linemen, too many questions about Bryant, and nobody else really stands out.

by black_knight101 on Mar 20, 2010 8:25 PM MDT reply actions

2nd Most important position

Remember how important Al Wilson was to Bronco’s D? Well McClain is that good and if he’s still there we should draft him at 11. ILB is the 2nd most important position after QB.

Yeah,

I’d put LT and NT ahead of ILB for sure.

by Kgrone on Mar 21, 2010 9:07 AM MDT up reply actions

Depends;

We already have Ryan Clady at LT and we just signed Jamal Williams at NT. There for we have pressing needs at ILB to replace Andre Davis, I pray it’s Rolando McClain.

oc60

by oc60 on Mar 21, 2010 7:25 PM MDT up reply actions

Can't argue

It’s your opinion but the ILB calls the defensive alignment. QB calls the offensive plays not the LT or NT…and Center calls all the Oline alignments/assignments. Just my opinion.

I too think it will be

Haden. I agree that an extra OT will be taken or Oakland will do something crazy, such as Mays #8. I certainly hope we take him. Not because of BPA, but rather BP at a need. If Champ or Goodman go down we need insurance. Smith will be good, Haden will be better.

by Digger24 on Mar 20, 2010 8:25 PM MDT reply actions

I think it's Dez Bryant and Rolando McClain!

I agree with Dez falling

I also think that the Broncos will avoid picking him up.

I think it will be Dez Bryant falling to the late 1st round.

In my opinion.

by McGeorge on Mar 21, 2010 6:47 AM MDT reply actions

This......

I’ve been on the McClain train since the end of the year, but after what Emmett and Ponderosa had to say about the Crohn’s I worry about him. Haden has become my top pick if available. (Unless Berry happens to be the one that falls).

by Kgrone on Mar 21, 2010 9:12 AM MDT up reply actions

The Chrohn's disease is an important issue and can't be dismissed as being nothing,

but if he keeps it under control like Gerrard does then it might not be an issue. I don’t think he will drop passed 15 and I would be very happy to have the young man on our team.

by bfree2bronc on Mar 21, 2010 10:04 AM MDT up reply actions

Yeah I don't know that I'd be disappointed with McClain at 11....

It just seems that Crohn’s isn’t something that you ‘keep under control’. I have no medical experience, but from what has been stated this is something that will likely flare up regardless of what he does to control it.

If it doesn’t cause huge problems though, he’s by far my top guy at 11. Just hard to guess at that.

by Kgrone on Mar 21, 2010 4:31 PM MDT up reply actions

With issues surrounding certain players

I think Iupati (Senior Bowl flop) showed that he got out played by bigger school players. Dez Bryant for his issues.

by bfree2bronc on Mar 21, 2010 10:01 AM MDT up reply actions

Could be more than one

It sort of depends on who you have in your top 10. My top 10 is:
Hdamukong Suh
Eric Berry
Gerald McCoy
Russell Okung
Bryan Bulaga
Joe Haden
Derrick Morgan
Anthony Davis
Rolando McClain
Mike Iupati
Since I have no QBs or RBs in my top ten, someone is bound to fall. Probably a couple of someones. I don’t expect any of the top five to fall (wouldn’t that be sweet if they did) but any combination of the next five (Haden, Morgan, Davis, McClain and Iupati) could fall. Then it’s a matter of the order you have them ranked (IMO the second five are all pretty close) and how much you’d like to stress perceived need.
