I've been linking to this guy for two years now, and with the Owner's Meetings starting today, he becomes particularly relevant.
Why?
Because he has pretty much cracked the code on the NFL Draft Compensatory picks, the one's handed out each year at the Owner's meetings.
I wish I was linking him up to tell you that the Broncos received picks, but alas, when you only lose one qualifying player and sign 10, you are pretty much out of the running for comp. picks....
In worse news, San Diego is looking at a 7th (possibly 5th or 6th) for Igor, and KC is on the outside looking in and may qualify for a 7th rounder. Overall Tennessee looks to be the fat cat here, with a projected 4 comp picks, including a pick in the 3rd.

That's interesting Jeremy and do you know what picks in the 3rd we get?
And, can those picks be traded?
um, I think he said the Broncos are getting squat. Tennesee might get a third.

I edited the fanshot
since my wording must have been ambiguous. We likely won’t receive any picks, because we only lost one player valuable enough to be compensated for, and we signed 10. Only the teams that lost more than they gained get comp.picks, and even then there are a lot of rules governing it.
But if we did have picks, than they would not be tradable.
So far this offseason, the only players we have lost that were resigned by someone else were Davis and Wiegmann, and since they were released the won’t count. And since we have already signed 3 qualifying players, it looks like Compensatory picks are not part of the McX rebuilding strategy….

players that are cut and sign elsewhere dont count as true UFA for either the departing or signing team.
therefore someone like Jwill wouldnt count in regard to future possible comps; as either a incoming or outgoing UFA for the broncos or chargers respectively
that's right
I forgot that JWill was released….

Your signing of Reid could get my Colts a 7th
not bad for a STer. I’d love Tiffin there.
Luck is probability taken personally, clutch is probability attributed to individuals.
The Broncos represent almost 20% of the picks given out
Renaldo Hill, Darrell Reid, Lamont Jordan, Lonnie Paxton, Jabar Gaffney….
I’m sure they are happy to help. :)
Here is one that will kill Bronco fans, though:
Atlanta will likely get a 3rd round pick for having Domonique Foxworth signed away…. :(

Hmmm....
maybe part of the the deal for the Broncos to sign McD away from Billl Beeeelicheck was to send him 3 draft picks, somehow, someway….

So the comp picks will be announced today?
I think its the first day of the meetings if I remember right.

This is really interesting
It is just another added dimension of the benefits of drafting well and retaining your players…
So if we hold off on trading Scheffler for example, at the very least we’d get a comp pick in 2012 depending on whatever contract gets dolled out. Sweet!
