Bout time
I finally got the text from NFL Mobile Live that the Broncos have interst in Kevin Mawae, bout time someone confirms this and we jump on the guy. Great upgrade from Weigman! Bigger which is what McX want on this line this year. I would love to have THAT kinda leadership on the line. New England way, pick up old probowlers who have a couple good years left and than draft youngsters at that position to train under the Pro. Hope we sign the man.

I agree
with you. The Broncos should make this happen. Get Mawae, and then draft Pouncey or Walton.
Hold on now...
Mawae is NOT reakkt bigger! 285 vs 289 (4lbs). He’s 6’4" vs 6’2", so he’s taller. BUT…He’s 39 years old vs 37 for Weigman. While we can alwasy use leadership, at this point, I believe we have enough experienced Veterans to hold us over. What we need is Skillful Youth! Actually I see Mawae and Weigman as a wash! NO more…“Experience” please? We have our share and then some. Let’s target a great C/G in the draft and also FA’cy!

I agree with you.
If Denver brings Mawae in, then they probably won’t draft Pouncey in the first round, because both can start so why would you sign one pro-bowl caliber player and draft an immediate starter for the same position? I think that if Denver signs him, then we’ll draft a center later in the draft. Walton, maybe?

I agree Hogblog 100%
A 39 year old center who is no bigger than Weigman is a joke. We want to get much bigger for those short yardage drives and anyone short of about 310 in my opinion is not an improvement. I pray we don’t go into this season without a major change at center.
I have been mildly excited about our additions this offseason,
but this would be a step back. The interior is where we need the most help, this does nothing more than put a different body there, an old one at that. I understand that even if we sign him we would still draft youth, I just don’t want to man “stop-gaps” on our team. Need to upgrade, get our guy in the draft.
We need to find a center who will play for a long time.
I suggest drafting Pouncey at #11 and and OG such as Ducasse, Asamoth or Mike Johnson at #45 – or – taking Iupati at #11 and Walton at #45. That should settle the OL middle for years to come. Plus we have 5 tackles (on the roster already) to man the RT position if Harris is not ready to play at the starting bell.
Our coach and GM cannot stand another year of an OL that is not able to get the job done.
Starting centers...
don’t grow on trees. What proof do we have that Pouncey is ready to start at center in the NFL. The center position involves many reads and line communications and can be a challenge to learn. This often takes time to learn in a new system. And although Pouncey is the best center in the draft, he IS NOT value at # 11.
Mawae is the exact type of pickup we need to improve. I’m surprised so many people are opposed to signing a proven commodity and would rather rely on an unproven rookie with 0 career starts. If the price is right on Mawae, what do we have to lose?
