He's a guy who made the most of an opportunity he was given last year. Kyle started all but one game for us last year, and he's got the respect of his teammates and coaches and we look forward to him improving. Now Brady's here competing, and as always, players determine their roles by what they do on the field.

Orton is the man
Unless something amazing happens Orton is the man!
(Now Brady’s here competing, and as always, players determine their roles by what they do on the field.)
Translation:
Orton is the man… Unless Brady Quinn gets it together and wows him/everyone. Josh McDaniels will always go with the player that gives the team the best chance to win. If Brady Quinn is that guy then so be it. Either way we should have a major upgrade at backup QB from last year.
This falls pretty much in line with what I said at the time of the BQ pickup
Technically, Alphonso Smith could win the #2 cornerback position from Andre’ Goodman, and technically Chris Baker could win the starting position from Jamal Williams. Yet those are no more of a competition area than at QB, only less publicized.
Kyle Orton is the man; surprise, surprise. There’s no QB competition here.
Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!
Quite possibly McD is saying Kyle Orton is the starter.
Last year at the owners meeting he said the same thing about Cutler while holding his #6 jersey up. Kyle Orton is the starter and for Brady Quinn, Tom Brandstater or anybody else to stroll through the door at Dove Valley and shout, I’m the one. They’ll have another thought coming. Kyle has the job until he proves differently and Brady Quinn, yet still young has alot of work ahead of him.

We agree
Kyle Orton is the starter until a better option proves itself very clearly – just like Goodman is the starting #2 CB until a better option proves itself clearly. The only difference here is the press. There is no “QB Competition” here.

Quite definitely McD is saying Kyle Orton is the starter
he said the same thing about Cutler
McD plainly said Orton is the starter. So unless Orton has a temper tantrum, demands to be traded, then ignores Pat Bowlen’s calls, I think it is safe to believe it.
I like the Quinn acquisition, and I think it will make both players perform better...a win/win!
Those that cant coach, compete!
Failing to plan is planning to fail.
All I want is 53 Rod Smiths. Is that asking too much????

I think Quinn makes a good backup for Kyle and who knows, down the road /quinn may be our future as Adam Schefter suggested.

When did he suggest that?
His tweet a couple weeks ago suggested Brandstater is the most likely option for the future.
Some guys thrive in the compitition... some guys play better knowing they're the #1
A QB controversy has soiled many a team’s season. The fact that we so welcome it here says much about how we really feel about KO as our long term QB solution.
Backup Brady Quinn
BBQ?
Delicious……..
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

lol.. i think we have a new nickname for him!
Unless/until he starts at some point…

Nice.
BBQ. Even if he does start at some point, someone is going to have to back him up. So, instead of using “backup” as an adjective of Brady Quinn as in “Our backup, Brady Quinn, is sitting on the bench”, it could be used as a verb as in “(You) be the backup of Brady Quinn while he dominates on the field”.
It works either way.

Man
some of the commenters on the Broncos’ official Facebook posts depress me as much as some of the commenters on the DP. Bunch of angry fair-weather yahoos.
Anyway, I think this is good, give KO a vote of confidence, keep things stable, but leave door open for BQ if things change. As style says above better to have a capable backup with future potential than one we have zero confidence in.

Better hurry and get him signed.
You probably get this a lot. This isn't the real Caesar's Palace is it?....Did Caesar live here?
You know where I wanna go? I'll tell you where. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called Aspen
If I were the head coach
I would bring Quinn and Orton in to a room. Let them know that I was going to give them each a start in the preseason with the #1 offense to see how they did with the best players, but that Orton for now would be the expected starter. Then to make things interesting I would not say a word to the media about the plan and watch the fireworks.
You KNOW that Clayton, Williamson, King, and all the other talking heads would be jabbering about the “huge quarterback controversy since Cutler was traded” It would be too much fun.
And yes, I know Quinn may not enjoy it, but hey, if he starts to show something with the #1’s then maybe…
TULO MVP 2010, Gold Glove 2010-2024 (The last 3 on merit rather than skill) HOF 2029 on the fact he breaks Bond's HR record in 2017 while voluntarily submitting blood tests for HCG
Yay for Floyd Little HOF . Now lets get Sharp, Davis, Atwater, Smith, Gradishar, Tom Jackson and all the other Broncos greats in there.

I will say it again...
Before that meeting takes place, Quinn needs to prove he can beat out Brandstater for the number two slot.
This system is about smart QBs making consistently correct decisions based on knowledge of the system and reading the defense. Experience is a key ingredient in being able to do that consistently. It took Orton some time to get it down and he’s still learning.
Brandstater has the smarts. He is, form what I’ve seen of him, more consistenly accurate than Quinn. He has one year of experience with McDaniels and he has a head start on this competition. His improvement last pre season from firt apperance to second was remarkable. Don’t count him out. He’s here and Simms is gone. If McDaniels didnt think he could cut it, he would not be here now. See all the other cuts that have taken place. There will be no qb drafted this year by this team.
Quinn learned under Weiss in college. But, he’s never run this offence and he’s never really run the Weiss offense against pro defenses. He is the one that is furthest back on the learning curve and Im not so sure he is ahead of anyone on the talent curve. He’s smart enough to get there, but he’s not there right now.
So first he has to be better than Brandstater and then he ahs to show that hes ready to challenge Orton. Then and only then he might get his meeting. My money is on Kyle to be the starter on opening day and all season long unless hes injured.

Something of nothing...
(a) i think we (those that pay attention to the Broncos) already knew this. Orton played well last year. I thought he was capable, tough, and smart. But…(b) no one is guaranteed a starting spot it seems (which is a departure from the Shanny days). And © Williamson and the rest of the broad NFL guys continue to sell “Drama in Denver” because it is easy; only a year removed from the Cutler trade.
Slightly off topic but Mike Klis gives his take on the Broncos draft board
Is it just me or is there something idiotic about his list including TACKLES, but not GUARDS?? Is he getting the two positions confused?
He’s right about Center, outside pass rusher, linebacker… but then he says tackle when he should be talking about guards and I start feeling he’s stupid again.
Am I missing something? While more depth is good of course, don’t the Broncos have issues in the interior line, and have two great young tackles in Harris and Clady?

Socrates was once executed for 'trolling'.
^Needs explaining: don't call someone asking uncomfortable, slightly antagonistic questions trolls. In all odds they probably just want to learn. It's real easy to differentiate a 'Socratic' post from a trolling one (unless you're a resident of WCG).
^Needs further explaining: I have yet to post anything on WCG, don't worry, I'm not trying to rationalize anything I've done. I've just lurked over there and man, they are the model of post-peloponnesian war Athens.
Orton is the starter
until someone better comes around. That is the way it has always been for him and every other player who ever played the game. This whole debate about whether or not he has a lock on the job is ridiculous. The job is yours only as long as you are the best option. Every NFL player (except a certain baby QB) knows this. Maybe Orton’s competition is now steeper than it has ever been but it certainly doesn’t surprise him that, as has been the case throughout his career, he is competing for the job.

Sounds right
Orton is the starter until someone better comes along. Unless your name is Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, that is the way it is. Cleveland was a total mess and BQ clearly has the physical gifts and the toughness. Its just a matter to see if he can put it all together mentally. Which is the way it mostly is with any QB; that job is at least 80% mental.
