Bears Interested in Brandon Marshall?
The biggest question is which team would be the best landing spot for Marshall, and Neil Hayes of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that it could be the Bears. Hayes writes that Bears GM Jerry Angelo's comments about wide receiver not being a ''need'' position are viewed by many as a smoke screen, and that one NFL source wagered a steak dinner on Marshall being in a Bears uniform when camp opens.
I realize the Bears will have interest in Marshall, but what does this team have to offer? In all likelihood, the Broncos will not be interested in any 2011 draft picks. Would Denver throw in a second round pick along with Marshall for Brian Urlacher, Tommie Harris, and the Bears' third round pick?
A trade like that is pretty blockbuster, and I have not fully thought about the value of each player coming from the Bears, but a trade like that helps both teams on multiple fronts, and gives pretty equal compensation.
Thoughts?

While it's fun for us to speculate
I get annoyed when journalists start doing it. In other words, it’s idle speculation without much base to it. I don’t see that trade as a good fit. (Also I feel like Urlacher’s on the decline, though Tommie Harris certainly would be enticing!) And yeah without another 1st rounder to give to Denver it’s less enticing.
So… meh. ;-)

I'm actually adamant
that Marshall NOT go to the Bears, perhaps something about Bears fans being classless a-holes and Cutler getting what he wants. Our diabetic problem child needs to realize that he can’t have everything he wants and I have to admit, I’m really mad at the WCG for kicking me off their blog when I was only visiting, accusing me of being a troll. Sheesh Bears fans both you and your pretty boy signal-caller need to get some thicker skin. It does hurt that Kyle Orton who has less talent than Cutler wins more than a REAL team doesn’t it. Expect that trend to continue in 2010. Sorry for my vitriol but I’m mad at everything Chicago Bears right now

Settle down Bradfather
The WCG represents just a tiny fraction of Bears fans. they tend to be extremely loyal…to a fault over at WCG. Many of us Bears’ fans hate the trade for Cutler and current Bears’ management/coaching.
Yah that was a bit of an over the top rant
Maybe a Bears fan took his lunch money. ;)
Anyway, I don’t see this trade as making much sense for either side and as Adam Schefter pointed out just now on Twitter, without a 1st OR a 2nd rd pick, this wouldn’t work for Denver, period.

Perhaps
on my part, an apology is expedient. I’m sure I often shame my fellow Broncos fans with my tirades. While I am Italian, (hence my gloss), there is no excuse for me to let my passion get out of control. Thanks fellow Broncos fans for tolerating me.

Oh I enjoyed the rant
don’t get me wrong. It made me chuckle. Just seemed over the top. ;-) But if it made you feel better it was worth it.

Socrates was once executed for 'trolling'.
^Needs explaining: don't call someone asking uncomfortable, slightly antagonistic questions trolls. In all odds they probably just want to learn. It's real easy to differentiate a 'Socratic' post from a trolling one (unless you're a resident of WCG).
^Needs further explaining: I have yet to post anything on WCG, don't worry, I'm not trying to rationalize anything I've done. I've just lurked over there and man, they are the model of post-peloponnesian war Athens.
I meant
Kyle Orton wins more on a REAL team, sorry

100% Agree Underdog...
Fan speculation is one thing – it is what we do. The ‘real’ media doing it is another. The Bears have NOTHING in terms of draft picks…
Kudos to Sayre for at least trying to draw a conclusion about it. That said, bringing in high-priced talent with HUGE INJURY RISK is not my idea of smart business. Tommie Harris is a guy that will likely be unable to practice on a consistent basis for the rest of career. He’ll likely be limited in the weight room as well – which means he won;t be getting stronger.
Urlacher is a stud, but like Harris, the injury concerns are just too great. The Bears would LOVE to have Marshall, but they blew their wad to get Cutler – before having the pieces to go around him. Big Mistake.

Obviously they didn't think things through.
If they want Marshall then they really won’t have a team……..we will have their picks and players too.

Nah, I just don't like it on the surface
I’m not certain there is any real compensation the Bears could offer at this point.

I mentioned this in a post the other day
but I could certainly see the Bears having interest. If Cutler doesn’t play well in 2010, Angelo and Lovie are probably fired for such a bad trade. Their WR’s are, well, not good, and if these men want to keep their jobs then they don’t have time to draft and develop one. The problem, as we all know, is that they’re very short on draft picks.
I’m not sure what the exact trade would look like, but I could see Urlacher coming over. I don’t think he and Cutler get along, and that’s got to be very concerning to the team – that the defensive leader and the QB aren’t exactly besties. I like the idea of getting a proven player in return for our proven player.
The other major possibilities to me are the Jets and Ravens, as they too have no time to draft and develop. They’re built to win now, but lack a true receiving threat, a guy for defenses to worry about – to keep them honest instead of cheating up into the box.
Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!
That would be a dumb trade...
Besides, I see us acquiring picks for this draft – not dealing them away…
Tender Offer
Any idea when we can expect the Broncos to place a tender offer on Marshall and the other RFA’s?
I've been wondering the same thing
Tomorrow’s the deadline. So any time between now and then. Not sure what the hold up has been, but they’ll probably want to hand them out at pretty much the same time.

Nothing to this
And what would the Bears have to offer? They have no picks. They’d have to trade chunks of their D, which they won’t do. I’m sure they’d like to have him, just as I’d like to have 8 supermodels residing at my home.
I don’t see anything here at all- silliest of silly rumors.

Irresponsible 'reporting'
It’d be one thing if anyone that had anything to do w/ the team said that they had interest in a) Marshall or b) a FA/experienced WR.
They have done neither.
And they have no value to trade Denver.
This is ‘slow news day speculation’ at it’s very worst.
Here’s a HEADLINE:
McDaniels will draft Dan Williams in the first round.
Because Sayre said he might in his mock draft. Same level of reasoning.
Bears management
Angelo/Smith/Phillips are in a panic mode and all of their cushy salaries are on the line in 2010. They can be had and nobody knows that better than Josh McD. Marshall and Denver’s 2nd round pick for Greg Olsen and Devin Hester would make more sense to me.
IMO the Bears made their mistake when they didn't fire Lovie Smith.
I really don’t see him as a great coach or ever will be.
couldn't agree more. Should've canned Lovie
and hired Shanny. Huge mistake. Shanny’s an Illinios guy and that has to be a dream job.
I'll be the first
to agree that Smith isn’t one of the better coaches in the NFL, but our problems go much deeper than our coaching staff. Angelo is one of the weaker GMs in the league and he should be the first one out the door. A new GM could then make the necessary changes throughout the entire organization…coaching and player personnel. Imo, that’s the only way the Bears franchise will bet turned around.
Whatever the problem I don't think they have the muscle to garner a Marshall deal.
Martz may have been a good pick for Cutler and maybe he can settle the gunslinger down and make a quarterback out of him. IMO they have the tools, they just need to use them more efficiently.
Just for a little perspective

This should help folks understand what is reasonable and what is not reasonable and what teams have to offer outside of players when it comse to trading.
Would be a bad trade for us
Marshall is awesome and still growing/improving. Urlacher will not be any better – he is on the decline. Suspect the same about Harris. Why would we trade a proven star for a couple of declines?
We raped the Bears in last years trade...let's not press our luck.

Not sure on this one.
I would be more intrigued with a trade involving Hester, Urlacher, and a 3rd. I doubt that would happen and with the uncertainties of Urlacher’s health, I just can’t see this going down. But as a lifelong Bronco fan, nothing would surprise me at this point. How about Marshall to Cleveland for Shaun Rodgers, Cribbs, and a 2nd or 3rd? Highly unlikely and potentially problematic with Rodgers coming off an injury, but if he was good to go the trade could go a long way in fixing the D-line and kick return.

As much as I appreciate Urlacher and Harris' contributions in past years...
I appreciate Marshall’s future contributions in Denver more.

I’m with you BroncoHawkeye!
On a serious note both players are on the downside of their careers IMO and the Bears would absolutely love to unload Tommie Harris’ contract. He played less than 57% of the defensive snaps last year and didn’t practice on a regular basis because of his knees.
We know Urlacher was hurt but at the same time do we really know how consistent he will be. He’s not getting any younger.
But BH you gotta love those Bears fans that talk smack even during a losing season. Oh well…I live it too. Hang in there!
The QB position is set.
