Horse Tracks - 3/30/10 - Vacation Cometh
Good Morning Broncos Country. I have to admit, my mind is elsewhere. In a couple days I will be loading up the family truckster and heading south on the parenting pilgrimage known as DisneyWorld. Sure, for most the 15+ hour drive would be, well, a drag. I am actually looking forward to it in a twisted, morbid sort of way - perhaps I like self-mutilation. No, I think giving my girls a chance to see just how BIG this wonderful country of ours actually is - while spending quality time in close quarters - is a must. That, and dozens of DVD's, coloring books, snacks, drinks and air-freshener. Perhaps the best part - to me anyway - is the fact there will be a shuttle launch on April 5th. It has always been on my bucket-list to see a launch, but with the program due to be halted this year I was beginning to think it would never happen. Luck, as it turns out, might be on my side. If anyone knows a secret place to check it out, let me know. Anyway, I'll be doing my best to keep up with the day-to-day here on MHR, but if I seem distant, well, it is because I will be. I have the best team in blogging backing me up, so I know MHR won't slip. On to the Tracks!

No more rookie excuses: This group must produce results in 2010
While sitting with New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin at the NFL Annual Meeting last week, I asked him about his young receivers' emergence last season and, based on what he has seen of them, if he believes they'll continue to improve. For the most part, Coughlin gave the stock answer of, "There's a long way to go; they're not as refined as they should be," but they'll get better.

If we tell you the secret places, they won't be secret anymore!
:) Seriously, though, if you are going to see a shuttle launch, as long as you get on the coast somewhere close to the Cape (Titusville, Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Port St. John, etc.) you will be good. You go there thinking you’ll witness something that everyone should get a chance to see, maybe like Old Faithful or something of that nature, but you come away with a sense of awe that you wouldn’t have expected. You’ll know what I mean when you feel it. Yup, feel it. From miles away. And a night launch is whole other ball of wax. Imagine sunrise happening in about half a second. Make sure you tune the radio to a station that is covering the launch and listen to what they are saying. The altitudes and speeds that it hits in such short amounts of time are amazing. Hopefully someone will come along with a good location to head to, though.
Enjoy Disney. You picked both a good and bad time to go. Good because it can quickly become The Sweatiest Place on Earth in summer and the forecast for the next week or so is pretty good (only hitting about 80 over the weekend with unseasonably cool lows in the upper-50’s), but bad because it’s spring break (long lines).
I saw a shuttle launch, totally by accident, from Orlando.
I’ve always wanted to see a shuttle launch, so for me, seeing it was the highlight of our family vacation in Orlando. We flew into Tampa, stayed the night, then drove a rental car to Orlando the next day. Just as we were entering Orlando, the freeway became a parking lot, so we switched the radio to AM for any traffic information. The station that scanned first was talking about a shuttle launch, so we listened, and just after the countdown to liftoff, we saw it going up. All the way from Orlando! The amazing thing is that if it weren’t for the traffic jam, we would have missed it completely because it turned out our exit was the next one up.
Shuttle Launch
If you are going to Kennedy Space Center for the shuttle launch, they have tours of course, but also check out the following in nearby Cocoa Beach (where I Dream of Jeannie was filmed):
Ron Jon’s and neighboring Cocoa Beach Surf Club for dazzling beach wares (a tourist must), as well as the nearby discount beach shops
Cocoa Beach Pier for some quality beach time
Fish House for good food and low prices (corner of A1A and Route 520
Bizzarro Pizza (a local chain of good pizza) and
Harvey’s for fresh orange juice by the jug and related citrus products on A1A near Ron Jon’s.
Its a nice day trip from Orlando.
Have a nice trip.
Have a great trip John...Love taking drives like that with the wife!

Florida sounds happy. Have a fantastic time!
"All we're trying to do is win the *********** game!" -- Josh MF McDaniels tearing into his offensive line after three false starts in the red zone. The tirade turned the tide of the game, and the Broncos dominated from that point on.
Thanks for the news and have fun on your vacation.

McNabb will make them harder to beat
he beat us last year and he is not Russell. of course, even Russell got wins over last all too feequently. this move will make Oaklland better, unfortunately for us (not calling them Faiders because fading became our specialty last 2 years)

Disney Tips
If you’re going to the parks on Easter Sunday get there as early as you can. All the parks get packed on Easter Sunday and have been known to reach full capacity. Your best bet is on this day to go to Epcot because it’s a pretty big park and can spread out the crowds a little better.
If there is a wait for an attraction longer than 40 minutes get a fastpass or make a note to do that ride in the early morning. The major attractions like Dumbo and Peter Pan are best done right as Magic Kingdom opens. Depending on how old your kids are and what kind of thrill junkies your family is there’s also some great thrill rides especially Tower of Terror and Rock N’ Roller Coaster.
Of course my favorite ride is in Magic Kingdom. What else would it be for someone named RMT than Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
Have fun.

McNab and the Faders
Can you imagine being McNab, coming from a Super Bowl contender to the Raiders? As long as Mathusla is in charge of that team we have no long term worries. At best the Faders can only be a “flash in the pan”.

I know how you feel about the being excited to drive in a morbid way :)
Have fun on the trip man!
A vision without a plan is just a dream. A plan without a vision is drudgery. But a vision with a plan can change the world.
About the Launch
I saw one by accident while outside of Gainesville in August. I’m not sure how the visibility is from Orlando, but I do imagine you can see it. While we were in G-ville it was amazing how the ENTIRE eastern horizon looked like it was day time. The one thing I can say is it’s way more beautiful to see, and photograph with a body of water between you and the launch. I guess it just all depends whether or not you’re planning on going to launch site or watching it from a distance. Have fun!
Gainesville is pretty far from the cape...
so imagine how it is up close. :) You can see it from Orlando just fine, but if you drive the 30-45 minutes to the coast, you can feel it.

I wonder what McNabb must have done to Reid
to make him trade him to the Raiders?

Have a safe trip John.
Remember to pack your patience. Something tells me you’re going to need it.
Thanks for the HT. M
Man, how come JayJay couldn’t do a little worse last year? I want Sammy.
Enjoy the trip, John.
Make sure that if you go to McDonalds, you don’t leave the bags on the floor of your hotel room. From what I’ve heard, they make their bags much more slippery in Orlando than they do elsewhere. We wouldn’t want you to slip on one and put your hand through a television or anything like that.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.
