BRONCOS AGREE TO TERMS WITH OL HOCHSTEIN, WR LLOYD
The Denver Broncos on Friday agreed to terms with offensive lineman Russ Hochstein and wide receiver Brandon Lloyd, it was announced. As per club policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed.
Hochstein (6-foot-4, 305 pounds) is a 10th-year offensive lineman who played in 15 games (10 starts) in his first season with the Broncos in 2009 after he was acquired from New England in a trade on Aug. 25.
He has seen action in 121 career regular-season and playoff games, including 35 starts at five different positions.
Lloyd (6-foot-0, 194 pounds), who originally was signed by the Broncos on June 15, 2009, is an eighth-year wide receiver who played in two contests during the 2009 season, including a start in Denver’s regular-season finale against Kansas City.
He has played in 81 career regular-season games (48 starts) and has totaled 164 receptions for 2,370 yards (14.5 avg.) with 15 touchdowns.

great job broncos!
Smart move on Hochstein, even better move with the strater clause and I love the Lloyd move too. Great value there. Even Mike Lomnbardi said on NFL Network late last night that his #1 value guy was Lloyd and the other guy said Dwan Edwards was his #1 value guy. Curious about contract terms for Lloyd.
Good!
An OLman will have to beat out Hochstein to make the team. Thats a good bar to set. Lloyd may not be a practice guy but he’s a gamer. When he was in the game he was one of the more productive WR. He’s just not much of a blocker.

That's a great picture
Looks like he’s doing the hula or something.

Hochstein- Really?
That guy blows, Lloyd has some good value.

he did a helluva lot better than hamilton or weigmann last season
it’s nice to have depth, and i’m hoping hoch isn’t a starter
Well, I guess if you consider he did a crappy job as opposed to a very crappy job, you may be correct in your assessemnt
I don’t see what depth it provides, no one thinks he should start and if he is starting, we are in a world of hurt, true depth means you have guys you think or know can start and play as well as the starters, not have a guy that can play poorly.
Jack of all trades master of none.

No he didn’t. But if he is signed as a backup and possible fill in at three spots, it makes sense.
He also knows the system so that is a plus. When it comes to FAs, even I don’t question McDaniels. He destroyed FA last season (in a good way).
In my opinion.

Who said Hoch will start?
Personally, I thought he did alright. Definitely better than Hamilton or Weigmann, as lolcopter said. Whenever you can get camp competition, it’s a good thing. I think that having Hochstein compete for a job will be a good thing for the Broncos in the offseason.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Hard not to LOVE Brandon Lloyd....anyone else remember this catch?

Consistency
If I’m correct, this catch was ruled down at the 1, but with Stokley’s catch during the regular season in similar action, it was ruled a TD. I think it was against the Redskins. I may be wrong. In that scenario the officials said once his feet were in the endzone, play ends and it’s a TD. I guess refs are rusty in preseason too!
The Stokley catch was against San Diego in the MNF game and ruled correct.
Any part of the white line across the front of the endzone is considered the endzone (breaking the plain) and the two side and back end of the endzone inbounds is the green, anything touching the white in these three sides with possession is considered out of bounds and incomplete. In Stokley’s case with both feet across the plain (or on it) constitutes a touch down. In Lloyds case in the picture it clearly shows he was across the plain and the correct call should have been touchdown. Why it wasn’t challenged is not known by me and I am not sure if he had full control of the ball at the time his feet were across the plain. If he had possession it should have been ruled a touchdown. I have a personal ire with ref’s on occasion especially if their call (wrong, but right in their own mind) changes the outcome of the situation, i.e., if the next play was a 4th and goal and a field goal taken.
If they were signed to be back-ups and provide depth, these moves make a lot of sense to me.
Too much roster turnover is unnecessary year in and year out (unless you want to be the Lions or Chefs).
In my opinion.
The way I see it
These two are the minimum that make the team at there position. This sets the bar as to how good a player needs to be to make the team. If either of these guys don’t make the team then we will be strong at their positions.

I'm a little surprised by Lloyd
I assumed he would be allowed to walk, but predicted Hoch to resign for $825k/yr (sounds like it’s $760k instead).
Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!
Rotoworld is reporting that Hoch can make substantially more based on "starts"

I'm a little surprised that Lloyd didn't get more reps than he did.
The guy catches just about everything he get’s his hands on and often times make acrobatic catches. The low on him was that he would avoid being hit and shyed away from catches when a play should have been made. But he can catch the ball when he has a mind to.
Like seeing Lloyd back.

ho hum on these signings
To me Hoch is just ok. Lloyd reminds me of that bangin hot babe that just can’t quite seem to lay off the crack pipe.
What a drag it is getting old. - Mick
incredible
Hochstein as a starter was the weakest link on a terrible offense. So we re-sign him? I mean, surely there’s better options, even as a backup?
