Neil Smith or Gilbert Brown?
I'm bored senseless in Moral Ethics right now so I thought I'd post my (roughly) quarterly fanpost. I don't feel like I have many fanpost-worthy ideas very often so I like to keep my thoughts confined to the comments sections, but like I said this class is boring me to death. While a bit premature, the thesis is based on my assumption that we sign Jamal Williams today.
Since the '97 season was when, at a ripe age of seven years old, I first found my love for the Broncos (and was subsequently rewarded with two SB wins), I tend to see everything Broncos through a '97-tinted lens. So my question is this: if we sign Jamal Williams, will he be as Neil Smith was for us or as Gilbert Brown was for the Pack? The answer might surprise you...

Granted he's almost entirely hidden by Davis, but you can kind of see him feebly reaching out to grab him (I couldn't just post a picture of him celebrating, come on!). For one of the best run stuffers of his generation (from Wikipedia) he sure didn't do crap against TD.
Now the superficial analysis is this: Jamal is an aging DT, getting too heavy (like Gilbert; this is also wild assumption in Jamal's case), so he's a lot more like Gilbert than Neil.
I would beg to differ. Being the sunny-sider that I am, I'd like to see a combination of the best facets of both those players in Jamal, and I really hope we sign him. Here's my line of thought:
- Jamal comes from a division rival clearly glad to see him go (they released him).
- Neil came from a division rival, but I'm pretty sure he was just a UFA.
- Both have/had only a couple years left in the tank.
- Jamal's former line coach (and only a year removed, at that) is here in Denver, he'll give him a lot of inspiration/motivation to be the best he can for the few years he has left.
- Gilbert was out of football for a year (he got too fat). He went and lived with his old strength and conditioning coach for a year (2000) then came and was awesome for another three years ('01-'03).
- While Jamal isn't going to be out of football for a year, I'm hoping the old coach narrative does the same for him.
So I think it's pretty clear the player Jamal would be: a hungry old vet working with his old coach to get his former division rival a trophy or two to stick it to the team who thought he wasn't old enough to play anymore.
That's the view in la-la land, and I hope we really pick this guy up!

Good stuff
I hope we get him too. I think he could really help us out!
A vision without a plan is just a dream. A plan without a vision is drudgery. But a vision with a plan can change the world.
Is it morally ethical to write fanposts while in class?
Anyways, I am absolutely with you. I’d quite like to have this guy. Not only is he a pretty good NT with a lot of size, but we are bringing him from the sparklers. It’s like the action movie where the protagonist steals a weapon and attacks the antagonist with it.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

As it stands right now we can be wild ponies on defense or with Jamal Williams
we could be WILD STALLIONS…
Disagree on your last point
Actually, you could say Jamal was out a year this past season. He was injured in week 1 and went on IR. It’s a big reason I like this signing, at 34(?) a year off could be just what the doctor ordered. Plus, it was his triceps that was injured, not a leg so he should have fresh legs for the upcoming season.
Step aside, my friend, I been doin' it for years.

I forgot about that...
unfortunately, it’s chillingly similar to the ruptured bicep that arguably ended gilbert brown’s career…and he was only 33…
Because Montana has no professional sports, I gotta support the land of my birth.
Socrates was once executed for 'trolling'.
^Needs explaining: don't call someone asking uncomfortable, slightly antagonistic questions trolls. In all odds they probably just want to learn. It's real easy to differentiate a 'Socratic' post from a trolling one (unless you're a resident of WCG).
^Needs further explaining: I have yet to post anything on WCG, don't worry, I'm not trying to rationalize anything I've done. I've just lurked over there and man, they are the model of post-peloponnesian war Athens.
I'm pretty sure with the recent news this means I'm prescient...

Finally a NT
Not since Ruben Carter played NT in the Orange Crush Defense has Broncos had a pro caliber player like Jamal Williams. If he has 1 to 2 years left in that body and can play in 12 to 14 games on a rotational bases I think it will help develop Fields and Baker this coming season and get us into the playoffs. This is a great sign for the future. Also the signing of Green will make Elvis & Ayers that much more effective. More sacks for Ayers & Elvis in 2010. D-Line looking better, now it makes sense to draft Rolando McClain inside LBer with our #1 pick all the pieces are now in place to use his talent. Imagine; Elvis, Ayers, Williams, and McClain as our starting linebackers.

Nunnelly will get a great example...
of perfect technique with which to teach our young guys…I forgot about that. With ten years together Williams has no excuse to not understand everything Wayne has tried to teach him.

Yep
I wonder how much his presence factored into Williams’ decision.

In some ways...
The Broncos signed another coach. Especially if they decide to draft a NT, it’s one thing to have the coach instructing you and another to watch an All Pro do it textbook.
