Broncos sign DT Jamal Williams
The Denver Broncos on Tuesday agreed to terms with unrestricted free-agent defensive lineman Jamal Williams, it was announced. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Jamal is a leader and a proven high-end player at his position," General Manager Brian Xanders said. "He has anchored some of the NFL's best run defenses during his career, and we are fortunate to add him to our roster."
Williams (6-foot-3, 348 pounds) is a 13th-year defensive lineman who spent his previous 12 NFL seasons with San Diego. He was selected by the Chargers in the second round of the 1998 NFL Supplemental Draft from Oklahoma State University.
In 148 regular-season games (122 starts), Williams has recorded 436 tackles (306 solo), including 13 sacks (55 yds.), one interception (14 yds.), 22 pass breakups, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He also has contributed 29 tackles (15 solo) in seven postseason starts.
Williams, who is tied for third in the NFL in Pro Bowl selections (3) and tied for second in first-team All-Pro honors (2) among defensive tackles since 2005, led the Chargers to a top-seven NFL ranking in run defense in seven of his 12 years with the club, including league-leading seasons in 1998 (71.3 ypg.) and 2005 (84.3 ypg.).
In 2008, he finished with the second most tackles in his career (67), including a personal-best 13 tackles for a loss, and was named San Diego's co-MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and Lineman of the Year.
Last season, he was named one of San Diego's 50 Greatest Chargers in a fan vote as one of three defensive tackles chosen for the 50th anniversary squad.
A first-team All-Big 12 selection as a senior at Oklahoma State, Williams attended Archbishop Carroll High School, in Washington D.C., and was born on April 28, 1976.

Big time move
Great day for the Broncos!
A vision without a plan is just a dream. A plan without a vision is drudgery. But a vision with a plan can change the world.
I see depth, size, talent and versatility in our DL now.
Definitely an upgrade from lst year, and I won’t even compare to 2 years ago. Now, GO OFFENSE!
i love our D line now. We have defensive linemen that are flexible, some that are great run stoppers, some that are great pass rushers. Not only are we going to have a rotation, but a good rotation at that.

I am turning 180 degrees on this, but now keep Marshall and draft Bryant at 11 and take Spikes at #45. We need to sign one or two O-line now.
Over the Hill Gang in Denver?
9 of the 11 starters will be over 30 years old but this in fact a great signing for Denver.

yeah, we are vets
but now we have the time to address that in the draft over the next few years, paying attention to picking the best player available.
which is why I keep advising
that we may still be looking at taking a DL very high in this draft. So far I see no reason to rule out Morgan or Williams at #11…

gotta say, now that D-line is somewhat set...
Having marshall AND bryant on each side and Royal in the slot, our passing o might be set (albeit if the O-line is addressed by 2 FA’s). The big bodies will allow most any LB to excel now. McClain may not be as high a priority now.

disagree…based on how McD likes to bring in free agents and then draft their replacements for the future, we didn’t touch ILB last year in the draft. It looks to me like it is either him, D. Williams, or trade back and look at Pouncey, Iupati, etc. But Bryant has to be in the mix, depending on how McD feels about his character
by black_knight101 on Mar 9, 2010 4:19 PM MST up reply actions
Give me Golden Tate or Thomas instead, Bryant gives me the heebie jeebie’s after our ordeal with the Beast.
I am more impressed with Shipley
than many here. I would take him over Dez as well, with the same concerns about attitude/character as you expressed, and the same hypersensitivity after experiencing the Beast. No problems with Tate or Thomas, though. That being said, we may both find Dez has much less character problems that we are assuming.
We really need Bryant?

I don't know if it will be that rigid.
McDaniels loves to mix things up on defense and show a lot of different looks with different players in different spots, so we could see McBean at RE or LE. Last year in one game I noticed Marcus Thomas line up at all three DL positions, and I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the other d-linemen did the same.

There will be a rotation...
McBean, Peterson, and Ronny Fields will get plenty of PT. LK Smith and Holliday are likely to be allowed to walk and Thomas and Baker will be major camp question marks, especially if the club drafts heavily at the DL position as I expect.
7 Dls on the 53 man roster
Wlliams, Bannon, Mc Bean. Fields, Green, Thomas, Baker. Any draftees and someone has to go. Who?

Baker and/or Thomas.
What about Peterson, you think he’s done? I thought he was decent. As for Baker, the coaches probably have a pretty good idea of what they have and it will be up to him at camp to make the team. If he’s a stud, it’s bye-bye to Marcus Thomas (and probably Kenny Peterson).
I’ve been pulling for Baker from the day we signed him! Didn’t see much of him last year, but he seems to have everything it takes physically to be the next great NT. Would be quite a feat for an undrafted player to step up among these men. It’s the best case scenario for him learning to take his game to a dominant level.

It's hard to say
All three of them were adequate last year. I just don’t see any of them inspiring too many double teams, which is what the defense wants the offense to do, so the LBs are freed to make a play.
Holliday & Smith are both unrestricted free agents, I could see Denver letting them walk.
We live in an age when instant gratification isn't fast enough
I like Vonnie, too
I want him in the rotation. But you’re right, he may not be here next year.

by bailey disciple on Mar 9, 2010 10:09 PM MST up reply actions
Right
Bannon, Green and Williams are all at the end of their careers, as is Vonnie Holiday. After they are done, who’s left? It’s time to draft some D-Lineman of the future. If not this year, it has to be next year. I’m pretty sure it will be this year though after the 2008 FA-Draft corrolations— they sign Dawkins, Goody, and Hill, draft McBath Smith, and Bruton; they lock up Mario Haggen, they draft Robert Ayres; they sign Buckhaulter and Arrington, they draft Moreno.
Bam!
D-Line Camp Compitition:
Fields, Bannon, J Williams, Green, Peterson, McBean, Baker, Thomas, Parker. Plus, I expect the broncos to draft at least two D-Lineman early in the draft (esp. Williams @ 11 if he fits in with what McX is looking for). After posting in the Jarvis Green thread, I’ll refer to the transformation of the D-Line as the “Jamaal Charles Effect”.
I dare you to click that link.
How about the FAA effect
You know, after a BIG plane crash they have an investigation and solve the problem. Problem is, FAA isn’t as successful as this. Oh, and by the way, did you HAVE to dare me….that hurt.
Would you draft players to cut them?
Would you sign FA to cut them? There is only room for 1 person to be drafted. Parker, Perterson, is history and if you draft someone so is Baker or Thomas.
... if you have a belief, you will tend to find things that support it. But if you have a prejudice, youāll move heaven and earth to maintain it. BroncoBear
by 3nS on Mar 9, 2010 4:58 PM MST up reply actions
I would have no problem parting ways with Baker or Thomas
for a big-time talent on the defensive front. D-Lineman take a few years to develop, so it’s an ideal time to bring someone with Dan Williams’ size/talent on board.
So much of the draft is based on the skills/personality the team is targeting and none of us really have a clue about any of that, so it’s hard to say they need to draft Williams, or be disappointed if they don’t, but I will not be shocked if it’s Williams @ 11. Alternatively, we grab a guy like Terrence Cody or Jared Odrick late in the first round/early in the second (gasp— even if we have to trade up for them). Or, maybe we take a guy like Cam Thomas in the second round.
People would freak if this happens, and I’m pretty sure it will.
Baker is an ongoing project, will get to the field this year, and is a part of the plan...IMO!!!

I like the thought but...
unless they re REALLY down on one of the young guys we have right now I don’t think Williams is in the plan. A later pickup in the 4th or after would make sense to bring in a kid who if they don’t make it heads to the practice squad
And I like McLain or Bryant at that pick a lot more than Williams.
Agreed 100%...Except for Bryant...McClain for sure!

by BroncoSense72 on Mar 9, 2010 5:17 PM MST up reply actions
The problem is,
there are really only two “young guys” (Baker and McBean). McBean was pretty good but not a monster, and Baker’s an undrafted guy that didn’t see the feild. Do I hope Baker is the future NT and will be the stud that many folks on here think he will be? Hell yes. However, if you’re trying to gain some insight on the coaches thoughts of Baker, adding Bannon and J Williams doesn’t bode well for his expected contribution in 2010. They had a full year to look at the guy, and to bring these guys in tells me he’s at least a year away. We’ll know more in late August when they start making cuts.
All I know is that this organizaiton needs to start building it’s defensive line of the future right now. If we’re lucky, Baker is a monster. I hope he is, but none of us know that. Adding the guys we did this week to play with the very servicable McBean, Peterson, Fields buys us some time, but not much.
Thats true
but what does it say about Fields? I thought he did a pretty good job last year. Far from the weakest link. Did the coaches disagree? Did they see something else? We signed 2 NT on top of Fields. Usually you have a 2 man rotation in that position don’t you?
I can see Williams
then trading Thomas. But as far as Cody et al, i’d rather have Baker. Why do you not like Baker?

the book was by Stephen King, and was much, much different from the movie, most notably in that the game show was not populated by cons, but rather anyone in need of some serious cash. It also was a worldwide chase, not limited to the confines of the gameworld. And the book Ben Richards was as far from the movie Ben Richards as is humanly possible…

dont forget CB
We have 2 30+ CBs, whose wheels could fall off anyday. Jones is a decent nickel/bad #2 at best. I expect us to draft at least 1, if not more CBs both early and often.
Haden has to be the pick if he falls to 11. Unfortunately, I don’t think that will happen so we’ll get to choose BPA of McClain, top 2 QBs, Williams, or Oline… Not a bad place to be in.

We're not set at CB depth, I agree
But we’re set for current starters, including Jones at nickle. I agree that Haden would be a steal at #11. It is a nice position to not desperately need anything. An upgrade at ILB would be great at 11, then O’ Line later in the first would be great. Still early to predict, but things are startign to take shape.

What is best about this whole signing
is that if Williams is in fact healthy, then we have just picked up one of the top NT’s over the last decade WITH a huge chip on his shoulder. And motivation like that is something money can’t buy.

agreed
Remember when Bowlen mentioned that part of the reason he picked Josh was because of the fact that McD put such an emphasis on D, despite the fact that his origin is as an offensive coach?
I think we are beginning to see this. Even though we have a gaping hole at center, McD went out and signed 4 defensive players that he felt would be a huge help to us.
I totally agree
McD is showing that he knows exactly what to do to make this team better. He saw that the D-line was lacking so what does he do? He goes out and the 1st thing he does is shore up the D-Line. I love these moves and my confidence in McD is growing with each signing
that being said we need to do something about either Center or Guard, depending on where they want Seth Olsen to play

Exactly
I’m hearing we are aiming for Mawae. He could be a short term answer while we train seth for another year. Then we aim for guard in the draft.
He doesn't seem
as large physically as his reputation. Must play with high aggression, maybe?? I should know more about this guy.
I remmeber some game film on him a few years back
I was quite impressed with his technique and aggression. He’s getting pretty aged now, though, not sure where he is on the degradation scale.
Also know he’s been known to pull a few dirty tricks from time to time, though he’s the “sneaky” type.
Hi Mhantra!
long time no see! Hope and pray all is well, and expect that you are as busy as I. BTW, my wages are being garnished by IRS now, and remind me to tell you how that turned out to be the best thing that ever happened. Life is sooo weird. Great day for Broncos, IMO!
Is it too early to toast Team McX's FA acumen?
Pretty nice upgrade here. (Just praying he stays healthy!)

Well
maybe a solid OC/OG FA signing to top it all off. But start filling the glasses now.
free agency began on Friday
I think people are losing their context. We’ve moved rather quickly compared to the past. Our expectations have changed.
no goats, no glory.
There is a reason I kept saying it was WAY too early for all the mock drafts in Feb.
In about a week, I’ll be ready to read all the MHR mock drafts knowing they might make some sense.
In my opinion.
hear, hear....
Step aside, my friend, I been doin' it for years.
Said sit on down, open ya eyes, say open up ya ears....
But I like Sayre. Just don’t love the endless Jan and Feb mocks.
I’ll enjoy them much more in April.
In my opinion.
I like mocks
There are so many possibilities that Sayre could post 50 and each one could be a possibility. Thats why I like reading the mocks.
For me, mocks are
more about why somebody likes the player (or dislikes) than who really would be chosen. Great info.
I think these signings make Lupati and McClain very real possibilities
My guess is they’ll probably be the favorites for our first-rounders.
Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!
Yeah, we probably will hear debate
Although I would be shocked if we did actually draft him after paying that much money to the older Williams.
Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!
1st round picks are not drafted to ride pine, esp on a team like Denver with some glaring holes in the starting line-up.
This move paves the way for us to draft McClain. He’d be awesome behind some beefy D-linemen.
I still prefer if Haden. He will be a star in the NFL and the real replacement for Champ.
I’d be happy with either player or maybe even Dez Bryant. We’ll have some good options at 11. I do know that. We won’t have to hope against hope that a guy we need drops (like we did in 2009).
In my opinion.
I'm not comfortable
with Dez until I see that his attitude isn’t as bad as reported and until we actually see him perform since he didn’t perform at Combine
i totally agree with McG
My thoughts exactly here, with the exceptiopn that I also could see Williams at #11 if McX think he’s a significant possibility as the long-term NT answer. Top flight NT prospects are few and far between and go early, but this year is unusually deep. Even if he’s just a rotation guy in year 1, losing a Peterson, Baker, or Thomas in camp is not a big deal. In any event, lotsa options now.
McG, we don’t always agree, but I like your football mind.

is making far too much money to draft the younger Williams to crowd the position.

IMO, of course.
Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!
You're right
There’s a lot of money tied up at NT right now between Williams, Bannan and Fields….too much perhaps to justify #11 being a NT. We may address it further along in the draft but I don’t believe for a second that the #11 pick will be on a DT/NT….this FA action seems to pave the way for McClain.;
Fields may swing to DE
He played there as often as NT. He did OK as NT, but McD wants bigger and better. J. Williams will probably spend some time injured during the season – I hope not, but it’s likely. Fields may play there. Bannan plays all three slots, as has Fields, as has Thomas. Baker has even played some DE. Getting a primary, 2-3 down NT to learn to play in the NFL isn’t outside of all possibility. Much as we all root for Baker and PDX, we don’t know of their development (I’ll include Powell until we know what has happened to him).

Yah I agree with that
(Though I still enjoy reading people’s mock drafts here anyway, they’re fun. But hard to do seriously when you have no idea what the actual holes will still be by draft time, as well as how players are looking to scouts, and even if there are any trades involving draft picks. Most accurate mock drafts happen right before the real one, imho.)

I agree with you again
You can not really accurately put up mock drafts until mid to late March after FA has died down. I know they are fun messing with but when you get up to Mock Draft 27.4.b like you mention below it starts to get a little old. I love the passion Sayre puts into those post but if you go back and review his trades and draft pick and compare them to drafts after FA they will completely different. I enjoy Mocks starting in late March.

Did we ever
hear any numbers on the Bannan deal?
According to a league source, Bannan’s five-year deal is worth $22 million and includes a $6.245 million signing bonus and $10.5 million in total guaranteed money.
Bannan will be paid an average of $4.4 million annually with scheduled base salaries of $2.004 million in 2010, $5.24 million in 2011 and 2012 and $4.74 million in 2013 and 2014.
Any detail
On the first 2 year numbers and guarantee? Once the players get over 30, that’s all I usually pay attention to.
Wow, big money
With a ceiling of over $7M per year, he stands to make a yearly average of more than this year’s cost of a franchise tag at the nose guard position.

DL Rotation
I’ve seen a few of these thrown around, and I’m doing mine a little differently. Instead of set starters and personnel groups, I’m just going to do my best estimate of where everyone’ll line up and if I think it’s good or bad. Go!
NT- I think we’ll see Fields and Williams about equally on all first and second downs and short-yardage situations. On third downs, I’d expect Thomas to get a significant amount of playing time here. Baker may also rotate in occasionally.
I love this because it keeps our big gas-guzzler, Williams, fresh. Both Williams and Fields will have fresh legs throughout the entire game, and Thomas and Baker can come in and provide a pass rush in long third-down situations. Our run defense should be at worst in the top ten next year.
LE- At the run-stuffing end position (offense’s right side), McBean, Bannan, and Thomas should get the brunt of the playing time. I expect McBean to start and play the most of the three, but it should be pretty even.
RE- The pass-rushing end will be filled mostly by Green, Thomas, and Peterson (and Holliday if he stays), but expect everyone to get playing time at both end positions. I like Green playing third-downs here because of his above average (for a 3-4 DE) pass rushing abilities.
Thoughts- We’re set at LE. The rotation is great, and will keep Bannan and McBean, our best run-stuffing ends, fresh. RE is more of a concern for me. Peterson really faded last year and Thomas remained consistently average. I wouldn’t like to see Green having all the RE duties forced on him in big spots, so I think that this is the best position to upgrade in the draft.
Speaking of the draft, I’m in the Dan Williams boat. I love the idea of getting him some playing time behind the monsters Fields and Old Williams (Williams Wall II??) and possibly allowing Fields to be moved out to DE.
I’d like to hear the thoughts of Guru, HT, Styg, Bear, the Dude, and Zappa on this. I think I might have missed something and I’m excited to think about all the possibilities that could come from this group. Also, sorry for the long comment…

Iupati will be gone before the 1st round is done. Guaranteed. He might even go in the 15-20 range.
I’d be perfectly happy if Denver took him at 11. Some feel that’s too high for a Guard cough John Bena cough ;) but I personally believe that if you can get a stud lineman, offense or defense, you take him regardless. The more I look at Iupati the more I LOVE the kid. Very humble and grounded if you watch his interviews but with a nasty streak on the field (like Clady). I think Fields is shifting over
Williams isn’t being paid $5M-$7M to be a rotational guy. He’ll be the starter and Fields will go back to DE, IMO. I think drafting Dan Williams would be an absolute shocker now. I think we’re all set there.

response to Papi -- add 3 subtract 1 = ?
I don’t have a problem the additions but the bottom line is that we’re crowded now. And I don’t know the answer.
I could see:
L-DE — McBean, Bannan
NT — Williams, Fields, *Baker
R-DE — Green, Thomas, *Peterson
That’s 8, which is too many. And I’d like to see us add more in the draft — at least one more. My guess right now is Peterson(cut), Baker (cut ~ PS), and an added DE in the draft.
no goats, no glory.
My guess is that if there was as much confidence in guys like Baker and Thomas
inside the building as there is here at MHR, then these personnel additions wouldn’t have been made.
I’ve never seen reason to believe these men are any part of any long term plan. Maybe, maybe not. But I’ve got no reason to believe that the team will be hurt by moving them to PS or even cut entirely. I see the crowded-ness as a positive dilemma.
Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!
I haven't given up on Baker
I take the fact that he saw almost no game time as an indication, though. I think Peterson’s roster spot is probably shakier. And Baker is eligible for the PS.
Anything can happen, which is another way of saying that it’s too early to project much, but I don’t think we signed players merely so we could cut them later. And I didn’t even mention Holliday, but counting him would force another cut among those I’ve listed (including the projected draftee). The only other was to go is if we keep more. I don’t know that keeping 8 is a reasonable way to go. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet.
The strange thing is that depth on the DL is now a problem. And I still want to add a draftee.

We do need a veteran C for sure and is Mawae still on the board?
I think we can do a lot better than Hadnot
There’s still the 345-pound (and 33 year old) Bobbie Williams, formerly of the Bengals. According to WalterFootball is a “great guy in the locker room.” Then there’s Marshal Yanda (Ravens) and Rob Sims (Seahawks), who are RFAs (tendered 2nd and 4th rounds, respectively). Then my favorite, Evan Mathis, a Bengals RFA who didn’t allow a sack in 2009. Perfect left guard. Or we could take a chance on Chester Pitts of Houston coming off a big knee injury. Or the Chiefs’ Wade Smith, who is a little undersized but played well last year when Charles was tearing it up and can play G or C. Or even the 77-year-old Kevin Mawae. There is still lots of depth out there at interior line.

Williams hasn't shown a decline in play yet....
He was out most of last year because of an injury, but that doesn’t mean he has nothing left. The last season he was on the field he was as good as ever.
re: J William's tank
He was a solid starter until the arm injury knocked him out. The usual track nowadays is for players to leave once they’re overpriced. It seems to be hard to accept a drastic cut in pay so players leave once their overpaid relative to their performance. It doesn’t necessarily mean they’re no longer capable of contributing, but it’s easier to find a situation elsewhere. It’s also easier to take a pay cut elsewhere. And it’s also easier to find a situation where they are valued more.
I don’t see JW as the answer but he hasn’t declined so rapidly that he can’t contribute. We’re only looking for 20 snaps a game — a part time performance. He’s capable of that, and he’s certainly more capable than recent DTs such as Robertson. Moreover, I don’t know who will be left at the end of the pre-season.

Tebow is the “perfect storm” of a QB… he’s just talented enough + strong leadership skills etc, that he will be the most sought after non-1st round pick. I have a feeling a team not on our radar snatches him up. Just a feeling…
Committing random acts of Brandon since 2006...
yup...I have the same feeling
And given an opportunity to develop over a few years, I would not bet strongly against him. Kid has some problems to fix, but also a lot of good things going for him.
like Oakland?
lol
"All we're trying to do is win the *********** game!" -- Josh MF McDaniels tearing into his offensive line after three false starts in the red zone. The tirade turned the tide of the game, and the Broncos dominated from that point on.

Perhaps Oak
It would be a shame – they’d be more than likely to ruin his chances. He needs a team with a good OL, very good QB coach and no pressure to start. If Oak grabs him this year, he’ll be on the field by November.
It all starts with the lines
How about the Colts?
Let him sit and learn behind Manning until Peyton hangs ’em up.

As much as I'd love to see this....
I think he’ll probably be gone by the time we pick. Jacksonville could trade into the early second for him, or one of the teams that misses out on Clausen or Bradford in the top 10.
Bills
They are my Tebow sleeper……
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

I knew filling a whole in a position of need
was going to bring the “Tebow” people out….we still don’t have luxury picks. We need an immediate contributor at 45.
Exactly....
At that point, other than possibly OL, there’s really no positions that I would expect a 2nd rounder to make an immediate impact.

McD: No more Mr. Nice Guy
Do you think McD is ticked about an 8-8 finish? He reportedly never had a losing season in his entire life. After sliding to 8-8 in his first year as head coach in the NFL he means business with these changes. If you think he did it his way last year, wait until you see this year coming up. People (assistant coaches and players) better perform. Awesome offseason so far.
You can always
find quality OL in the mid rounds. You don’t need a high profile starting guard. You need quality guards. We can grab them in the 3rd and 4th. In which case we have the 2nd rounder for whatever we want. hence tebow
YES YES YES
if you have faith in your scouting department and coaches, you can most certainly shore up your OL in the latter rounds…Other than the occasional LT stud that comes out (Clady), you’re better in taking guys later
Committing random acts of Brandon since 2006...
Look at
Mike Johnson G from Alabama, Mitch Petrus OG Arkansas, Brandon Carter OG from Texax Tech and Marshall Newhouse OG from TCU are all quality guards with potential and all are projected to go in rounds 3-5
Exactly...
In my mind, if our OL coach belives in he can get the best out of a guy, then by all means grab him in rounds 3-5. There are simple too many examples of doing this in the draft.
Committing random acts of Brandon since 2006...
I'll withhold judgement til after his pro day........
But Doom was considered a luxury pick (even in the 4th)……Luxury pick doesn’t mean a wasted pick.
You could have a good point, but saying there are quality OL in mid rounds
doesn’t make it true and after seeing our OL line play laster year, I’m not inclined to leave it to the mid rounds to get it done Sounds like to much of the middle path to me…..it’s up to the head coach. I hope your wrong.
Doom wasn’t luxury, we needed a pash rusher and Shanny picked a good one.
Doom was a luxury pick.....
One of those things that stuck with me was another team’s coach talking about how we were solid across the board and were able to take a shot at a guy who most teams might pass on because of his limited versatility. I’ll try to find it, but Doom was too small for the NFL and seen as a high risk guy.
I'm sorry I sparked the Tebow debate again,
as a san diego broncos fan I’m stoked about today. Thats all I’m sayin. I gotta few charger fans to call up
Good idea......
I got a few friends as well….XD
A sand diego bronco fan?
One of the biggest oximorons i’ve heard…i like it. Way to be on the good side.
Originally from SD.....Love it..... already text a dozen people
about to twitter it to over 200 san diego peeps..ahahahahah..
As for the Tebow debate….he is my pick even at 11… makes me a nut in here for sure. Just think he is going to be a champion.
I've admitted he's a risky pick....
But if he pays off, holy cow we’ve got a hall of fame caliber player. He might not be the most polished QB, but the guy is a freakin football player.
You can't say it enough
The guy knows how to win. He plays with as much heart as i’ve seen. Why would you nto want someone like that
there’s no crying in football :p

Renaldo McClain… That is our guy at 11. Could roll right into the starting lineup.
Joe Haden would be great as well.
Maybe even Dez Bryant, but I personally don’t like this player.
It is easier to draft the BPA now that we have addressed some big holes along our D-line. Hooray. Now don’t blow it at the draft McX.
In my opinion.
Haha....agreed....
McClain would awesome if he’s still there. I don’t want Dez even if he were there in the 2nd.
2 things
1. It’s Rolando McClain not Renaldo…Thinking of Renaldo Hill?
2. I would love Rolando. I think if he is there along with Haden then we pick Rolando because he would fit a need. Haden wouldn’t necessarily fit a need. I really don’t want Dez anymore. I was for it but now i’m against it. He sounds more and more like BMarsh, T.O. so on and so forth
if CB isnt a need
Who do you expect to play CB in 2 years?
Either Champ or Goodman could totally fall apart at anytime, and Champ is already too pricey for his performance (even if performance is still good). Smith hasn’t shown anything, and was always projected as a #2. Jones is a good nickel, but no better.
If we pass on Haden, I join the kill McX club.

That's a pick I could get behind...
stand out player on a national championship team and he played for Saban? Sounds good to me.

Live in Alabama now and McClain is the REAL deal
I think more physical and at least as smart as Jerrod Mayo
What would you rather have
An extremely strong, smart linebacker trained in the 3-4 defense or an unproven, wide receiver with some big character questions.
Charger fans don't appear to be happy with this development

If I were them, I’d be bummed, too. Especially when a fan favorite and former All-Pro is jettisoned from their team and signs with a hated division rival.

Prater re-ups with Broncos http://is.gd/a5i0E #NFL
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants country, and damned proud of it.
here's the real question
when you cite Tebow you’re really saying Brandstater isn’t the future… I for one think the Broncos drafted Tom with an eye toward the future. If they believe Tom is the future, then I would say the Broncos will not go above and beyond to draft Tebow. Now, if the they feel otherwise, then perhaps. But here’s the real deal: Tebow’s brand is strong, but that doesn’t mean there’s not other talent that grades better in McD’ et al’s eyes….
Committing random acts of Brandon since 2006...
I'd like Tebow there a lot
Just not sure if he’ll be available there. And if we don’t land him I still think Brandstater could turn out really good.
It depends on what else is on the board at that time.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Gotta tell you guys I love the signings!!!!
I just wonder how our own UFA’s that were tendered this year, expecting contracts react to these signings? Am I raining on the parade? Or are the guys that really deserve it going to play on the cheap? Maybe I’m out there and they are just as excited as we are at the team upgrades.
sad but true
We can tender our own RFAs but UFAs require an offer. It makes your own players, those who are RFAs, underpaid, but that’s what happens in the uncapped year. It’s supposed to motivate them into agreeing to a new CBA. I’m not trying to take sides and siding against the players (or some of them) so I’ll say that it would be nice if the owners would open their books and start working towards a new CBA. They don’t seem to want that.
We’ll get to talk about this a lot more at the end of next season. No CBA = no football.
no goats, no glory.
As a situational player
I think Williams has plenty left in the tank, as long he isn’t overplayed.
I do believe that McDaniels is going to do a lot more rotating in and out, and wants good players who remain fresh.
It might be physically and schematically impossible to rotate the D-Line more than we did last year, just sayin…
Nice pickup
Great guy and good player. Im still trying to figure out exactly where the Chargers are headed with our Dline. But I think its safe to say that the Broncos D line is much better than it was on opening day.
I still think that the Broncos need to another edge rusher to make up better against the Chargers, but thats my opinion.
Good luck JWill
Charger's didn't run that well against use last year. I doubt this changes their gameplan much.
I agree, for SD we need pressure, fast. Would help against Colts too
I personally love this signing
I know McD would have not signed him is he did not pass out physically. This guy is going to be super motivated this year and hopefully he perform like the all pro NT he is. Is it me of does SD have a history of letting vets got that they think are washed up and these vets go to other teams and contribute in big ways. A few that come to mind are Junior Seau and Rodney Harrison. Normally players that have chips on their shoulders can extend their careers. Especially if they get to face their old team twice a year.
I like the Jarvis Green Signing. I do not know if he is starting material but he will most likely be with the money he got paid. I believe he is better against the pass then the run. He will most likely fill the role Vonnie Holliday did last year. However he always seemed like one of the Pats most under appreciated players.
I might be the only one that is thinking this but I think we may see a trade with Miami. Ronald Fields to Miami for like a 3rd or 4th rounder. Miami is not going to have NT for the first 8 games of the season next year because Jason Ferguson is facing a league suspension. Ferguson is also 35 years old. I would much rather keep Thomas and Baker who have much more upside then Fields. This also free up a spot incase McD drafts any defensive linemen.
Rotation next year if this happen. JWilliams, Green, Bannan, McBean, Thomas, Baker, and a couple of drafted player. I think Peterson is on his way out because he was the biggest weak link in the starting rotation last year.
For the Draft now I would still say ILB, DT, & Oline are the #1 priorities. Now if Dan Williams is there and McD takes him I would be happy also. We still need some young Dline players because Baker and Thomas are the only DLine players 25 and under. We need a couple of younger players to sit and learn. Most Dline players take 3-4 years to fully develop anyways.
At 11 I would take Haden, McClain, Williams. In that order. Haden is a stud. I know he ran a 4.5 at the combine but he plays much faster then that in games and the tape proves it. There is a reason everyone thought he was going to run a 4.3 to 4.4 flat. All Three players are studs. We could use the youth at any one of the these positions. I think we go Oline later in the Draft.
McDaniels definitely needs to address the Oline. Right now the only starters we have are Clady, Kuper & Harris. However Harris went through some tough surgery so who knows if he will be ready. We still need a starting Center and LG. Hopefully Olsen will step in at Center of LG. If he does we will still need 2-3 players for Depth

McDaniels definitely needs to address the Oline
I doubt that the o line will be ignored. No worries. It’s a long offseason. We still have a month of free agency and then we get to pick up a bunch of college guys. No worries. :)

I am not saying he will not address
I have faith in McDaniels and I am positive he has a plan. There is no way he would let Hamilton walk and cut Wiegmann if he did not have a plan. He tried to sign Pashos but he signed with the Browns. We know he is looking. I think he will probably try to bring in one or two vets and then draft a couple oline player in the draft and let them fight for roster spots in camp

I like the Fields to Miami
For a 4th or 5th gnarly. With the Williams signing and the likes of Baker and Thomas, I think we have that flexability now, and hopefully Miami or someone would value Fields.
Yeaaaaaaaah Booooooyyyyyyyy!
Love this signing and man will he ever clog up the middle. Put him in rotation to keep the guys fresh and really help or linebackers on the edges really get some pressure.

as the best run-stopping NT/DE in the league for 2008 and the third best in 2007. He’s obviously not a guy that’s going to chase down qb’s too often, but he’s still very, very good at taking on multiple blockers and stuffing the run.
Good luck with the Redskins Mr. Mike! I'll be watching and cheering for a non-Bronco team for the first time in my life. Well, except when they play the Broncos!
Now you bring in Cody
And let him learn for a year or two under Williams. Mount Cody will transition perfectly from Williams.
