So Brandon Marshall just signed his tender.
This means that the Broncos hold all the cards on whether to keep him or trade him. Gone is that 1st round only trade possibilities.
What do you think they will do? A few things is this...
A) Sign him. The lack of interest this offseason clearly shows Marshall that he is worth less than he thinks, however, he is certainly worth more than the Broncos want to pay him. I hope they try to work out a contract with him if no trade is made that involves us getting a mid 1st round pick. He is better than any 1st round pick, because we know how good he is in the NFL, whereas with any draft prospect, there is the potential for being a bust.
B) We show teams that we are willing to keep him if they don't pony up a 1st round pick. What team would give us a 1st round pick if they honestly think that we don't want him on our team? They would all lowball us until we eventually gave in. I mean, if we aren't going to keep him anyways, then why would they give us the farm?
C) There is a trade in the works, and this is just a way to expedite that trade. This is possible, but usually this kind of thing gets leaked, and seeing we haven't heard a peep about any trades, it's not very realistic.
D) They think that a deal will get done on draft day, and they want to make sure he's signed so it doesn't fall though. This is a very real possibility, but it also shows a tremendous amount of trust from Marshall.
We got max value for Cutler, so there is no reason to think that McDaniels won't do the same with Marshall. I personally hope we keep him and we pay him top 10 money, if not top 5 money. He's worth it, and he's shown the last calendar year that he can keep his act together. This is very good news, and hopefully Bowlen wasn't full of it when he told him that he's gonna get a substantial pay raise if he kept producing.
