Deztined NOT to be a Bronco!
For all of the "Professional Analysist" and "NFL Experts" who have put pen to paper stating the Denver Broncos will select Dez Bryant with the 11th pick of the draft, I have a suggestion. Get yourself a fresh cup of coffee, find a quiet dark room and spend some time contemplating whether you made the right career choice. OK OK, thats pretty harsh. I'm sure they made SOME correct analyses concerning the Broncos like.....Oh oh, Brandon has no trade value after the Santonio Holmes deal. Eh, bad example. How about how Cutler will make the Bears playoff........let's just move on.
I have a couple points/thoughts I'd like to share on the Dez, Brandon and the Denver Offense in general. First Dez.
The simple question is "Why would the Broncos move a PROVEN, ProBowl caliber, wideout with character issues for an UNPROVEN, coming off suspension wideout with character issues?" All sign in the McDaniels camp point towards HIGH character, team first players This alone makes the idea of drafting Dez HIGHLY unlikely. But, lets look a bit deeper.
Lets look at all of the wideouts drafted in the top 15 of the first round over the last ten years.
Ted Ginn Jr
Mike Williams
Roy Williams
Charles Rogers
Dante Stallworth
David Terrell
Peter Warrick
Troy Edwards
Now there are certainly some VERY good, even great receivers in that group. But I really only count 6 that I would consider "#1" receivers. Especially when you consider the monitary commitment needed to sign these players to a top 15 deal. I know that Calvin Johnson, Michael Crabtree and Larry Fitzgerald were "CAN'T MiSS" draft picks. I can't recall if any of the others were. Would ANYBODY consider Dez Bryant of the same caliber as three I previously mentioned? I wouldn't.
Next, Brandon Marshall and the Broncos Offense. Nobody can argue that Brandon is one of the top receivers in the league. But specifically, he's one of the top POSSESSION receivers in the league. Is it safe to say that McDaniels is patterning his offense after what he had in New England? I think that's a pretty safe bet. When you look at the receivers he had in his stable, can you identify the STUD possession guy? Gaffney? Stallworth? There is a part of me that really thinks that for McDaniels Offense to work as planned, they need a stud Slot receiver and two guys that can stretch the field, make plays deep and take a quick slant to the house. It really helps having Randy Moss as one of those two guys, but that's beside the point. I'm not suggesting that McDaniels wouldn't LOVE to have the problem of a Stud Possession receiver AND a deep threat but I think I AM saying that given a choice, he would choose Roddy White over Brandon Marshall. That's just my thoughts and opinions, take them for what they're worth. But now that the Marshall saga is over I'm scouring the draft for an unsung, team first deep threat.

A tasty trio
I think we should draft Benn, Decker, and Armanti Edwards. That’s a possession guy, a deep threat/possession guy, and a return specialist. Combine those guys with Eddie, Kenny, Jabar, and Stoke? Stellar

not enough draft picks
isn’t armanti edwards a quarterback who is going to turn wide receiver? He seems like he would be a good player for the Dolphins.

If we traded down
Plust, if you wanted a WR heavy draft, you could go Pouncey, Benn, Gerhart, Decker, Edwards in the first four rounds if you wanted

Dez bryant would probably be the only one at #11 that would have me say WTF#%*##@()@
With the prospect talent deep at WR in this draft there is no reason to head over heels for Bryant…2-4th rds holds a $h!t pot full of them…
Good points, and thanks
I’m scouring the draft for an unsung, team first deep threat.
You’ve found him. Kenny McKinley is very fast, very much team first, plays injured and has spent the last year in Rich Tuten’s House of Horrors, putting on the muscle that he’ll need to be in the NFL. He’s very fast, very elusive and has great hands. Article here

I don't know that much about him
New Era Scouting has him as a 5th round player, about pick 150 in the draft. I have an interview here with Coach Jeney Jackson that’s very positive.
What I would have hoped is that he’d have stayed in school for a year. He rates anywhere from about 8th WR to 24th, depending on the draft site. When it’s all over the place like that, you look for similarities – what do folks agree on. He’s had maturity issues, and probably should be in school one more year to prove that he’s more mature. He’s not fast, and doesn’t have a great burst, either, and he’s poor at classroom work, which is a bad sign for someone who wants to be in the NFL. His good side is that he’s a great athlete, leaps for the ball, fights to get it and runs very good routes. His motor has left a lot to be desired, but that seems to be improving. He’s only 20, and that’s good and bad. Good, because he’ll keep getting better IF he can stay out of trouble. He was arrested for shoplifting in ‘07 – charged as a juvenile, happily. So, the bad is that he’s still very immature, agewise, has a history of immature actions and might find himself with hundreds of thousands of dollars.
He’s a tough call. There’s a lot on both sides with him – the interview and a visit will tell teams things that I don’t know a thing about. His skills as a WR have improved a lot over the past couple of years – we’re back to risk management. I tend to be relatively risk adverse – I don’t like players with poor attitudes or criminal backgrounds, but I do believe in second chances. three years ago was a long time. Did he show real remorse? Make changes that his coaches commented on, like Ayers? There’s a lot here that you’d need to be a fly on the wall for. Interesting guy, though. Thanks for bringing him up!

Exactly, the fact of the matter is...
McD is a great poker player, bringing in Dez to try to convince people he will draft Dez so they will trade up for the pick. NO WAY he is a Bronco but, shush, don’t tell anyone, we need to be able to trade down.
There is no I in team.
No need for Dez.
I believe we should spend out first two picks on the middle of the team. Whether we take Pouncey or Iupati with #11 and a ILB or Gerhart (a beast for sure, but maybe to much like Hillis for McD to like) in the second. Gaffney is a good #2 or a decent #1 WR IMO. He averaged 16.3 YPC last year as a secondary target given that BMarsh was always the first read. McKinley is really fast and Royal and Stokely are great in the slot. A. Smith needs to concentrate on being a returner/ nickel back and take Royal off of ST. We could pick up the kid from Cincinnati or USF in the 3d or 4th.
Thoughts?
Pat-terns
Given that McD was with the Pats through their Superbowl WINNING years, those teams started the following in the Super Bowl:
2002 – Patten/Brown
2004 – Brown/Branch
2005 – Branch/Givens
Patten – Undrafted FA 1996
Brown – 8th Round 1993
Branch – 2nd Round 2002
Givens – 7th Round 2002
Why does anyone think McD will pick a high priced first round WR?
I like alot of the recievers in the draft but ifi had to choose
It would be Williams, Mitchell and Shipley. i Think that all three of those guys are ready to make a impact in the league this year
"just win Baby"....... unless you draft jamarcus russell
On your list only Torry Holt and Plaxico Purress have won a Superbowl.
Three future HOF receivers in the past decade: TO(played in 1), Randy Moss(played in 1), and Larry Fitzgerald(played in 1) have never won a Superbowl. Brandon Marshall never played in a playoff game. A good receiver can be taken out of a game by a good corner(Champ).
Football is the ultimate team sport. Denver is a few players away from being a playoff contender on a regular basis. They can grab a quality receiver past the first round(Marshall was a 4th rounder after all). Remember that the Broncos won 2 Superbowls with Easy Ed and Rod Smith.
The Broncos need to shore up the run defense and the interior O-line in this year’s draft. If things work out they might be able to trade down and draft Pouncey and grab an additional pick.
This is a deep draft and their is little separating players 20 through 100. This is good for the Broncos since they have multiple needs and currently have 3 picks in that range.
