Mock Draft V. 5

So this is a bit earlier than I was planning on putting up another mock, but I've got some free time on my hands today, and an idea struck me last night. And maybe I want to do exactly 7 mocks.

So here's my idea. The Steelers can't be happy with Ben Roethlisberger, the organization has to much class to put up with a potential rapist. Combine that with recent reports that they are open to trading him, and that they were willing to only get a fifth rounder for Santonio Holmes, and I think there could be a deal brewing that will affect the Broncos. I can see Jimmy Clausen still being available at #9 (yes, I know I picked him #1 overall in the community mock), but the Bills would most likely prefer having an established quarterback. So the trade that would go down would involve the two teams swapping firsts, while the Steelers ship of Big Ben and Buffalo also gives up their third. Pittsburgh would then select Clausen. Roethlisberger's off-field issues and likely suspension would be keeping this from being on the scale of the Jay Cutler trade.

Now back to our very own Denver Broncos....

TRADE ALERT The Denver Broncos have traded the 11th overall pick in the draft to the Houston Texans for the 20th and 51st overall picks in the draft. TRADE ALERT

With the 20th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Maurkice Pouncey C Florida

With the Roethlisberger trade I have projected, Pouncey will be around a bit longer (unless we don't trade back and take him at 11). We also pick up another second while the Texans would be looking to take Joe Haden or C.J. Spiller.

TRADE ALERT The Denver Broncos have traded the 51st overall pick in the draft and a conditional 2011 second round pick to the New England Patriots for the 22nd overall pick in the draft. TRADE ALERT

With the 22nd overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Sean Weatherspoon ILB Missouri

I'm starting to think we're gonna walk away from the draft with Spoon no matter what, even if it means taking him at 11 and not landing Pouncey. I would be very glad if we're able to land both of them like I've had us doing for the last couple mocks. Now picture how strong our linebacking corps would be after this pick, depth and all. That's right....

With the 43rd overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Demaryius Thomas WR Georgia Tech

Thomas will become big for us, especially once his route running is fixed. This guy would be a big target for Kyle Orton at 6' 3" 224 lbs.

With the 45th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Toby Gerhart RB Stanford

You've heard it all when it comes to Gerhart, just like with Pouncey, so I won't pound it into your skull much more.

With the 80th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Carlton Mitchell WR South Florida

After this pick we really shouldn't have to worry about receiver for quite a while. We've got enough youth and talent at the position to last for a while, plus some quality veterans.

TRADE ALERT The Denver Broncos have traded TE Tony Scheffler to the Cincinnati Bengals for the 84th overall pick in the draft. TRADE ALERT

With the 84th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

John Jerry OG Mississippi

Jerry will challenge (and probably beat) Seth Olsen for the starting job at left guard, setting our offensive line for the next decade plus.

TRADE ALERT The Denver Broncos have traded the 114th overall pick in the draft to the Philadelphia Eagles for the 121st and 200th overall picks in the draft. TRADE ALERT

With the 121st overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Clifton Geathers DE South Carolina

Geathers is a very raw run stopper with great bloodlines, and McX could feel that he won't have any more off-field incidents and enough potential to be worth the pick.

With the 183rd overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Simoni Lawrence LB Minnesota

Lawrence is a bit undersized by most standards, but he could be a good special teams contributor.

With the 200th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Cole Pemberton OT Colorado State

via farm4.static.flickr.com

Pemberton would provide solid depth at tackle and has good size (6' 7" 315 lbs) for our system.

With the 220th overall pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select:

Brandon James RS Florida

A much needed return man who will let Eddie Royal focus on receiver, and would bring great speed and quickness to the team.
