Some Pre-Draft thoughts and my 2nd Mock Draft
In McDaniels recent press conference he told us they could be moving up or down, and he likes Tim Tebow, Rolando McClain, Dan Williams, Dez Bryant, and Sean Weatherspoon. All these players are first round selections right around where we choose in the draft, minus Tim Tebow. I read an article from Woody Paige this morning stating we should get Tim Tebow and as I agree with good ol Woody he thinks it'll be in the first round, wrong Woody. Tebow is an outstanding player in my opinion, an established winner, a fiery leader, and and a great athlete. Having Tebow on the team would be great for the QB position because rather or not Quinn, Orton, or Brandstater is our future at QB the competition would be great. To take a QB/HB/TE who is going to be a project at the start is not something to spend the 11th pick on. I've also been reading that Tebow is going up on draft boards so he may go early in the second round. The first round is sort of mysterious as to who McDaniels wants at 11, last year at 12 he shocked me with taking Knowshon Moreno over Brian Orakpo, so i believe anything is possible for us. Another thing that surprised me in his press conference is that, he did not say one thing about Pouncey, or any of the Centers for that matter. I don't think that necessarily means Pouncey isn't high on their draft board, but he did seem to have a lot of interest in the people he discussed at pick 11. McDaniels has visited with the top 3 centers, Pouncey, Tennant, and Walton, so it is clear he has the desire to get one in the draft. I really like Pouncey and in my last mock draft i had us taking him and Sean Weatherspoon, and i'd love to have him on the team, but I also have no problem with him not trading back into the first round and taking a guy like Tennant or Walton in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round.
McDaniels went on later in his press conference to talk about McClain and Spoon. McDaniels seemed to have great things to say about McClain.
"Yes, we have a fairly good connection and (Alabama) has a lot of players in this draft that may be selected in the first couple of rounds. Rolando was here the same day that Dez was here, and I'm not sure I've met a young man as intelligent relative to the game of football than Rolando McClain. He's obviously been well coached but even if you're coached well, it takes another side to get to where he's at. He's obviously done a lot of listening, studying and understands the game at a level where most kids that come in as rookies will never be at. That's a credit to the work he's done at Alabama, the way he's been coached and he has a very bright future ahead of him. He's a good player; there are a lot of them. Like I said, there are a lot of players that we had in our building. We had a lot of great visits over the last couple of weeks here. We took our full allotment of 30 and really took an interest in a lot of players. The thing about this draft is that it's deep enough where a lot of people are saying, ‘These players are all going to go in the first round.' Well, they all can't - I think that's how deep this draft is. You're going to be sitting there in the second round saying, ‘Wow, I never thought this guy would be here.' Like you said, Rolando McClain, Dez Bryant and we've had a number of other players in here who are going to be picked right around where we pick. We're going to finalize that process in the next couple of days because we have to have a plan for if we are picking at 11, what's going to happen."
Now I like McClain a lot and he's a great ILB, stops the run, a leader, and has great instincts. In my opinion i like Weatherspoon better, theres been lots of argument as to which would be better fit for us, but ill leave that to you guys whichever you like better. It also good to note that McDaniels was asked about any other player that wowed him at there visit, he said
"Sean Weatherspoon, the linebacker from Missouri, was very impressive. He's a bright kid. Every way -- name it and he was impressive. His knowledge of his system, his ability to retain our system, his interaction with our coaches. That was great. (Rolando) McClain, obviously I talked about him, Dan Williams-We've had quite a few. (Florida QB Tim) Tebow, you mentioned Tebow, he's everything that you guys have ever read or written about a player like that. He was extremely impressive".
Reading this and seeing Spoons reaction to being in Denver only leads me to believe that this is the guy were probably going to take and I want on our team. Spoon was very excited to be here, just read his Twitter, took pictures of the locker room, had a great meeting with the coaches, and he loves Dawkins, I wonder what kind of pre game speeches these two could give to fire up the defense. I've always liked Spoon coming out of college, scouts were grading him out as an early second maybe late 1st, now he's being regarded as a mid 1st round pick.
So I wont hesitate to give you a new mock. For this mock ill say we trade with the Packers, we trade the 11th pick for the 23rd and the 56th pick.
So our picks would be 23rd, 43rd, 45th, 56th, 80th, 114th, 137th, 183rd
With the 23rd pick in the draft the Denver Broncos select...LB Sean Weatherspoon, Missouri
As I already stated above, Spoon is a great leader, can cover, can stop the run. He did play OLB in Mizzou's defense but he can play ILB in Denver's 3-4, Paired with DJ and Doom our LB corps will be great in the 2010 season. I like this pick even more as well because we get Spoon and another pick in the draft which would be a sweet deal.
With the 43rd pick in the draft the Denver Broncos select...QB Tim Tebow, Florida
Now a lot of people dont like Tebow for whatever reasons, I happen to think Tebow will end up in a Denver uniform. If you watch McDaniels pre-draft press conference you'll see him pratically blush when he talks about him. Sure Tebow has some issues with his footwork and mechanics, but the guy is a proven winner, a fiery leader, his team mates love him, and so do his fans. So taking Tebow here would give us 4 QB's but making every single one of them push each other harder making them all better. Tebow will be a project but i truly think the guy will succeed in whatever position he takes in the NFL.
With the 45th pick in the draft the Denver Broncos select...WR Damian Williams, USC
Damian is a really good receiver, considered to be the best route runner in this years draft. He's also got some reliable hands and is pretty good after the catch, he can also get some good separation from defenders Getting him here is great value and fills a huge need for us as Brandon Marshall is now with the Dolphins.
With the 56th pick in the draft the Denver Broncos select...RB Toby Gerhart, Stanford
Everyone seems to love Toby, and I do like him. He's a solid runner with power which is something we need to have behind Knowshon. A RB is not exactly the biggest need we have but he does give good value and could potentially play some fullback, remember we lost Hillis in the Quinn trade.
With the 80th pick in the draft the Denver Broncos select...C Matt Tennant, Boston College
I think everyone should read this cause it's a great read, and it was also submitted by our own Broncosfansd. I read this and i thought huh, this guy might be on to something, and i know that McDaniels has had him in for a visit. Personally i like the guy, he guarded Matt Ryan, and seems like an all around good blocker. I like Pouncey a lot more and he's still a huge option for the Broncos in the first round, but I'd rather get a guy like Tennant and get Spoon in the first.
With the 114th pick in the draft the Denver Broncos select...WR/KR Jacoby Ford, Clemson
If Jacoby is here in the 4th i have no doubt the Broncos will take him. He's good value here as a WR which we need depth in and a kick returner which we could also use. Jacoby is very explosive like Spillar, although he's not as explosive as Spillar he's still pretty fast and explosive.
With the 137th pick in the draft the Denver Broncos select...TE Ed Dickson, Oregon
Now that Scheffler is gonewe need a Tight End that can catch some passes and run with it. For some reason Scheffler and McDaniels just didn't get along, but we can get Dickson here and replace with him with someone I believe is a good pass catching Tight End and again is great value here in the 5th round.
With the 183rd pick in the draft the Denver Broncos select...C Joe Hawley, UNLV
Getting Hawley here in the 6th round provides some depth for us at G/C as he can play both. Will probably be able to come in and compete at LG as of right now we have a few guys who are unproven so far.
So to recap our draft:
23rd. LB Sean Weatherspoon
43rd. QB Tim Tebow
45th. WR Damian Williams
56th. RB Toby Gerhart
80th. C Matt Tennant
114th. WR/KR Jacoby Ford
137th. TE Ed Dickson
183rd. G/C Joe Hawley

Generally I like it
Many of the players you had, I included in my mock draft earlier today and if we could get Weatherspoon at 23, that would be a steal. Also love Gerhardt, Williams, Tennant and the potential of Ford.
I’m not sure, however, how I feel about Tebow. While he was great in college, I just don’t know how much will translate to the NFL game. And, while he could certainly be useful in specific situations like the wild horses formation or as a short yardage option, I just don’t think he would be worth a 2nd round pick, especially when someone like Armanti Edwards will be available in the 5th.
With that being said, however, Tebow obviously is a great leader, and if he were to become a Bronco, it would not be the end of the world and would be an interesting story to watch.
TAKE IT!!!!!!!

I LOVE it!
This is one of my favorite mocks in a while! I would definitely be happy with this draft. This is a mock that is similar to mine, mostly because of our shared love for Weatherspoon, Damian Williams, Gerhart, and Ford.
Eddie Royal will have a breakout season in 2010. Count on it.
No on Tebow
I just don’t see how the Broncos need Tebow at all. I think Brady Quinn and even Tom Brandstater have much more upside than Tebow particularly in light of other needs Denver must address in the second round. McDaniels is in win now and make the playoffs by 2011 mode. I don’t think Tebow helps Denver get there. Now, should the Broncos draft Tebow, and he does well in Denver, I will be the first to own up to my criticism. Until then, I say, no on Tebow.
"I think if you struggle to run the football and stop the run, that's a double whammy ... The line of scrimmage is where a lot of games are won and lost, no question. And when we lost the line of scrimmage on both sides, it usually wasn't a good formula for us." – Denver Broncos Head Coach, Josh McDaniels
Don't think this draft makes us arguably better...
I don’t like Tebow, we don’t need him as a 2nd, and most dont want him. Cam Thomas/Aurellious Benn/V. Ducasse/J Jerry/ would all be better fit as our 2’s! And we need DE, which could be Alex Carrington in 3rd. Toby Gerhart does fill a need for sure. We will have to move down for Pouncey, then up for Weatherspoon. That’s how we should start the draft….then regroup and prepare for day #2.

I love this draft
I would be very, very pleased. HOWEVER, I think we will have to trade back into round one to get Tebow. Just my opinion, but this mock obviously gives us the picks to do so.
A vision without a plan is just a dream. A plan without a vision is drudgery. But a vision with a plan can change the world.
I like it but..
I would prefer Mount Cody to Tebow, and Armanti Edwards to Jacoby Ford. Then it would be perfect for me.
Not that I needed another reason to NOT want Tebow...now looney bin Woody wants him,
in the first round you say??? Thats all I needed to hear. I’m selling.
I CAN DIG IT!!!
My wish list is Tebow, Weatherspoon and Gerhart. Everybody else is extra icing on the cake!
Gerhart
May or may not be there at 56 but i think he will be
