2010 NFL Draft Round 1 Open Thread(Picks 24-32)
| 25 2010 NFL Draft | |||||
| Round/Pick | Team |
Player, Position, School | Comments | ||
1-24 |
|
Dez Bryant, WR - Oklahoma State |
Bryant fell, like many thought he would, and the Cowboys jump up and grab him. Josh McDaniels preferred Thomas to Bryant - we'll find out if it was a good move. |
||
1- 25 |
![]() |
Tim Tebow, QB - Florida |
The Broncos jump back up into the first round to take the most polarizing figure in the 2010 NFL Draft. Tebow has guts, he has desire and wants to be the best. Can he do it? That is the question. |
||
1-26 |
![]() |
Dan Williams, DT - Tennessee |
Well, with the Tebow fireworks in full effect.....still...The Cardinals get a great player in Williams to plug into their defensive line. |
||
1-27 |
|
Devin McCourty, DB - Rutgers |
The Patriots make their pick and they add a tough, productive DB to their rebuilding defense. Solid. |
||
1-28 |
![]() |
Jared Odrick, DT - Penn St. |
A prototypical Bill Parcells player. Odrick has a motor that never seems to quit. |
||
1-29 |
![]() |
Kyle Wilson, DB - Boise State |
Wilson might be the best DB in the Draft, getting largely overlooked playing on the smurf-turf. Good teams get good players, even late in the first round. The Jets have done that with this pick. |
||
1-30 |
|
Jahvid Best, RB - California |
Minnesota makes a smart move, dealing a pick to a team that has no desire to take a QB. The Lions get back into the first round to get a play-making RB they desperately needed. |
||
1-31 |
![]() |
Jerry Hughes, DE/OLB - TCU |
The Colts are among teh best in the Draft, and it is for picks like this. The Colts always seem to find guys that simply produce and Hughes is that type of player. |
||
1-32 |
![]() |
Patrick Robinson, DB - Florida St. |
The First Round comes to an end with the Saints taking a DB. Good all around players for the Saints. |

Well, I don’t think he’ll EVER be a good QB. But he can run the damn football better than any QB I’ve seen.
Weird move. But our short yardage running game is horrible and Moreno is not the answer.

why
what’s the difference? he wouldn’t have been avail. in the 2nd – so if we were going to pick him there, why not throw in a 3rd and a 4th to get him. think of the 2nd as the pick we would have used anyway. Is he worth a 3rd and a 4th to guarantee getting him? I don’t know.

You know where I wanna go? I'll tell you where. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called Aspen
What did it cost to get Tebow?
a 2, 3, and a 4 I hope he’s worth it. Like but would have waited to the 2nd round.
"A great pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do" Walter Gagenot
"Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible and achieves the impossible."
you can think of it as spending the 2nd anyway – but a 3rd and a 4th to guarantee it. would have lost a 2nd with the pick – but he wouldn’t have still been there. so we only really “lost” a 3rd and a 4th – but those were gained by trade – so who knows…

But if I’m right and they did miss on their OL/LB guys moving back, then perhaps they didn’t want to risk losing a second target.

But they are not going to bring us a championship in the next two to three years. They’ll get us in striking distance, nothing more.
I think we are drafting like NE – Let’s build a team three years ahead of time, and then all we have to do is maintain.

1st Round ?
for Tebow? crap, I think that’s a terrible pick. In the 3rd round as a back up project, ok…but to trade UP to the first round? makes no sense
Well...
I guess that pretty much sums up McD’s real faith in Orton. Outside of Sayre, stand up if you still consider McD a personnel genius. That’s okay, I can wait. Forever.
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted and then used against you.
Couldn’t get McClain, so they had to drop back but couldn’t get into the lower teens to get Pouncey, Iupati, etc.
So they switched focus to replacing Marshall. I think Bryant could be another Marshall, so they avoided the potential headaches.
The Tebow pick? Who knows.
Remember, Shanahan took Maurice Clarett in the 3rd round, so we should be used to this kind of thing.

Meaning that we still have one pick in the 2nd, two in the third, one in the fourth, one in the fifth, and one in the sixth. That sounds better. We still have six picks to go after the trenches.

The Tebow pick says all we need to know about Bradstater. That was a wasted pick and trade.
It also says Orton is on the hot seat. Would we really draft a 1st round QB with Orton on the roster?
In my opinion.
Orton only had a year (maybe 2)
McD just bet his Career on talking to TEBOW …he sure sounds good.
by Whidbey Bronco on Apr 22, 2010 8:29 PM MDT up reply actions
I think more than anything
it says every quarterback better get their ass in 4th gear and start working because there’s a competition on their hands. Orton has the head start, but they can’t be naive. That job is very much available for the best player.

Remember Where You Stand
You can hate Tebow and wish we grabbed Clausen. You can wish we pick Dez over Thomas. You can wish we grabbed Weatherspoon or Thomas or Iupati or Pouncey. None of these guys are a guarantee. But if you are hating now, then remember where you stood when we return or glory. 16-0, 0-16 I will always be a Broncos fan and will always have hope
So, heard on NFL Network that Buffalo was trying to trade up to get Tebow...
And Clausen is STILL on the Board with no signs of the Bills looking to get him. Interesting…
The writing is on the wall for Clausen...
and Charlie Weis.
I think it's telling for both players.
I’m really worried about Tebow, but I’m just SO happy he wasn’t the our #22. We REALLY need some OL and DL…and ILB and CB. I’m glad this is a deep draft

Character??????
It isn’t everything. I voted G W in 04 on character and ended up with something pretty horrible. Believe me it isn’t everything. This guy better be a lot better at running an NfL offense than he showed in college or this is a massive waste of resources.

Here's what Gruden realizes...
,,as does everyone whose ever coached the game (ahem)….
When you get a guy who stays out of trouble, say, “I’m here to do what I’m told” (as Tebow just did in his interview), and a guy with a proven record of winning, you get a guy who is coachable. Given his raw athletic talents, the sky is the limit.
Tebow wasn’t my choice. But there’s no way I dump on the guy. McD is following the NE script to a tee. You build a team two to three years in advance, and then all you have to do is keep up the talent at that point.
If Clausen is truly Superman, how come the first round is almost over and he’s still sitting?
McD isn’t shooting for stars. We’ve racked up picks in the mid rounds (where deep talent is available this year), and are making solid picks across the board. We got enough extra picks to take a chance on Tebow. We also picked up a 4th with Tebow.

The only other option is Tebow at another position… one where he could get to the flats, take backwards passes and look down the field.

Innovation is what you look for from a young coach
I for one give him props for being bold. You never get anywhere chasing the status quo.
I’m disappointed in our first round picks. I’m not so much disappointed because of the guys we got. I’m more disappointed because we have glaring needs that need be filled with players that are ready to play this year (C, OG, ILB). I understand there is a lot of draft still to come; however, it seems like the later you let things get the more those players are going to be ‘projects’ to fill future needs. We have more immediate needs.
"C" is for Championship...that's good enough for meeeee!!!
Tebow Rebuilt
I honestly was agnostic about Tebow. Then I saw this pretty amazing piece about how he has already dramatically rebuilt his delivery, after just a few weeks of instruction.

If you like that, watch the Suh analysis.
He is one bad MF.
I would rather have the broncos take Max Hall in the later rounds and develop him
and draft need instead of Tebow, but I’ll admit I really enjoyed watching hall play at BYU and would’ve liked to keep cheering him on. I think KO is fine for now but I guess Tebow will get some time in that Wild horses or stallions lineup, whatever they called it.
When you eat a candy bar or have a wonderful dessert, have a diet drink. The calories are cancelled out by the diet drink.
Its one thing to throw a ball, It is another to be able to read a defense
And He sure did not read defenses at Florida

So he completed 70% of his passes and won all those games in the SEC without reading defenses? That’s frickin awesome, can’t wait till he learns how to read and throw , he’ll probably never lose a game .

It don’t matter if he’s playing behind swiss cheese….I hope you guys are right about good Oline in the latter rounds because I don’t know enough to judge
You can get some damned good OL later
You really only have to get your LT early.

who was the last WR the broncos took in the first?
was it Marcus Nash from Tennessee?

yeah
Some U2 song is the “official song” of the World Cup.
I am so freakin’ excited about the World Cup.
If Tebow progresses we get a second rounder for Orton next year
If not we overpaid for a TE
Question is
who was better coming out of college, Vick or Tebow? I didn’t pay any attention to Vick as a college player so I genuinely don’t know
Tebow.
about tenfold.
Comparing Michael Lombardi to Bill Williamson is like comparing an In-N-Out Cheeseburger to a sh## sandwich.
Williamson would probably eat both – no questions asked.
And Vick was a top pick
and won some games…he’s an idiot too so if he had a brain he’d still be winning. Ergo Tebow will win

Remember how awesome Ryan Leaf was?
That arm! That footwork! The mental and emotional stability!
Blake: Thanks to you, I am damaged beyond repair!!
wow not even a fair comparison

that's a really harsh comparison.
and really not even close at all.

Leaf was a frickin nut case well before he blew up
and besides, if Tebow busts out, I don’t see him committing felonies for money 10 years later.

That sounds like the same

I really do wish I could be excited.
I do, but I’m not. I’ll learn to live with it, but not yet.

man, the Lions
gave up a WHOLE lot less to trade into the 1st…
they only traded up like 4 or 5 spots

wow what a 1st round
I’ll spend the night studying the 2/3 round lineman…
Play a little and wish work didn’t piss test lol
Well my draft predictions were 100% accurate. HCMcD did the exact opposite of what I thought he would/should do. Oh well, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I just hope he knows what he’s doing.
"C" is for Championship...that's good enough for meeeee!!!
I just found out I'm road tripping with some Seahawk fans to Denver for the game this year!!!
Stoked. Never been to the new Mile High

To Coach and Medina on that Rose Bowl
What a game, I about cried …Griese’s dad called the game (I’m a wolverine fan…) Awesome.
Then we drafted Brian, always loved that kid. Remember when he beat the Raiders with a dislocated shoulder? We beat him up pretty bad with our weak-ass line
start to finish round 1
Started with :
1 – 1st , 2-2nd’s, 1-3rd, 1-4th.
Finished with: the WR that McD wanted all along, a faster, better character WR who can stretch the field.
The QB that McD wanted one of the winningest, highest character QB’s to ever play who is willing to work his ### off with McD to do whatever it takes to win.
1 -2nd 2-3rds and 1-4th. So basically we get 2 1st rd picks and a 3rd for a first and a 2nd.
Now let’s get some big boys tomorrow where the draft is really deep and win some MF games!!!!!

i have a feeling that 3rd and 4th rounds
are all about the lines. 2nd round look for another offensive player….also look for McD to trade a 2nd next year to get another 2nd round pick.
