2010 NFL Draft - Tim Tebow

Welcome to Denver, young man!
Tim Tebow will get to wear his beloved Orange and Blue for years to come, just our different shades. Tebow has all the physical tools necessary to succeed at the next level and any coach worth his salt can teach someone with his dedication, willpower and athleticism the skills to go along with those natural gifts. I know it's become trite, but Tim really is the epitome of character and leadership. To put it another way: he is the embodiment of McD's ideals. He's tough, smart, physical, versatile, team-first, leads vocally, etc. We may not need another quarterback, but you always want guys like this on your football team. If the goal is to put the best 53-man TEAM together, how could Tebow not be one of those men?

If anyone hasn't already,
I suggest you watch McDaniels’ pree draft press confernce and listen to him talk about Tebow. It pretty much explains it all.

Rumors have it that the Broncos are trying to corner the QB Market!
They’re going to trade up for Clausen and McCoy next
McCoy I could live with
Troy Tulowitzki - Best SS in the MLB - 2010 MVP
Brad Hawpe - Will prove the doubters wrong
Todd Helton - Time for his ring to come true
Daley for Closer!!
Here's a plus for Tebow...
I’m pretty sure #15 is available.

The guy formerly known as ZAPPA
plus our draw, which Tim is the master of will be amazing to his strong side…

Here it comes
The SECOND Orton throws an interception, we will be hearing about how we should be starting Tim Tebow. There’s no doubt we don’t start him next year. And if we struggle at all this year, we will start Tebow. If McDaniels LOVES a player this much to jump back into the first round to get him, you don’t think he’ll start Tebow as soon as possible?

Good. Tebow is the leader we need. Hes our QB, ortons a backup and always will be. I dont hate the guy but this position was the most disapointing for me. We can do better than orton, and we just did…

by David G. Little on Apr 22, 2010 8:50 PM MDT up reply actions
Orton is a similar leader in the clubhouse....
And Orton is a better player at this point in time. Maybe Tebow can become better than KO, but that is a few years away at this point.
Agree
The young QB in the league that is playing the best is Aaron Rodgers who sat and was developed a couple of years before he became a starter. There is no need to start Tebow. Orton will be an above average QB this year. Let him prove it. Franchise him and trade him when Tebow is ready. then Denver will have more 1st round picks,
Derek Anderson is just as much a probowl quarterback as Jay Cutler
Very True
Though I would love to see Orton play for a long time with Denver, it looks like he is just going to help develop Tebow and hold the fort till Tim is ready to start. All I hope for is (and I hate to make this comparison) that this ends up kinda like the Chargers situation with Brees and Rivers…and have both QBs go on to have great success.
Can't be good
How do you think Orton feels now? Knowing regardless of his success, the Broncos future QB is waiting for him to leave.
"I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us. Mr. Stay Puft!"
I would be slightly peeved...but he has the skills to start at QB
and if Denver doesn’t want him I don’t doubt that someone will bring him in. I feel a really good season coming out of him this year
With leadership comes more than just trying to be a leader. you need respect, trust, charismatic enthusiasm. I think Tebow is a better leader, and I also think the players will respond better to him. Really, if your a Jabbar Gaffney or Eddie Royal and you had to pick, who would you rather have as your QB? Ortons a dirt squirrel and we support him because he is our QB, and i did too. But now we have a great QB. Maybe not skill wise, but Tom Brady and Matt Cassel were not great either right?

I hope he shelves him like Bena said for at least a year to learn and absorb the knowledge of NFL play
Really though?
With the way we went after Tebow, do you really feel we will purposely keep this kid on the bench? Everyone says we let him learn for a year but I just feel we will be looking for an excuse to let him play.
"I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us. Mr. Stay Puft!"
There is no safe way
to let him play, besides…at least think about the fact that MAYBE McD is smart.
If he is as good a QB coach as everyone thinks then MAYBE he’ll be smart enough to shelf him for a year.

Yes
bring in a hard working quarterback that is still a ways away from being ready to start in an NFL game and who everyone will want to start immediately. Everyone is going to push for him and we already have a QB who is very good. It gives headaches.

Tebow may be great, amazing, the best QB ever…..in a few years, but how does this pick help us NOW? Are we okay struggling for 2 years with a weak O Line while we wait for Tebow to be the starter?

Rookies aren't supposed to be the core of your team
Tebow will see some action, but mostly he’ll learn. And you can bet than Tim Tebow is going to learn and work on perfecting being an NFL QB.
As for the OL, you do realize that we still have draft picks left?
Owning the Patriots since September 9, 1960
Rookies can be the core of your team
Matthew Stafford, Mark Sanchez, Matt Ryan. There’s nothing that says a rookie has to ride the bench, so there’s nothing preventing McDaniels from making Tebow the core of our team. And I’m okay with that…..if it fixes our problems TODAY. But it doesn’t. Drafting OLine help later in the draft is great, but just like Tebow, those guys probably won’t start either. Pouncey or Iupati could have started day 1.
"I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us. Mr. Stay Puft!"
One player is not the core.
BTW Pouncey and Iupati need some work (despite what Mayock says about Plug & Play)

Orton will be like Chris Leak…the pocket passer…and tebow will be brought along EXACTLY how he was brought along in Florida. REMEMBER…McD’s offense is based ALOT on Meyer’s system…Tebow will be a weapon is specialty packages this year…Orton will play for 2 seasons…gte his contract with another team and Tebow will be starting!

* Heisman Trophy (2007)
* 2× ESPY Award for Best Male College Athlete (2008, 2009)
* NCAA QB of the Year (2007)
* Sporting News Player of the Year (2007)
* Manning Award (2008)
* SEC Male Athlete of the Year (2007)
* SEC Offensive Player of the Year (2008, 2009)

* William V. Campbell Trophy (2009)

No Like
No surprise here that I don’t like this pick as I’ve expressed before. But I am curious to see what they will do with him. We do already have three QBs.
I will say this, however, we now have 4 QBs ALL who have been picked by McD. If he can’t find a winner out of these four that is on his head and he has no else one to blame. If nothing else it should be interesting to watch.
Whre does Tebow contribute in 2010?
Has the intangibles, but nwe just put up a 2nd,3rd, and 4th, for a guy that will be a marginal contributor, at best, this year. I don’t hate him, I’ll cheer for him, but what the F.
But they were picks we manufactured...
Again, I am not sure how Tebow will pan out, but it didnt cost us that much.

by MarshallMcCard on Apr 22, 2010 8:48 PM MDT up reply actions
We got 4th back
Gave 4th #117 and got back 4th #119, so essentially Tebow cost us 2nd rounder + 3rd rounder + tiny move back in 4th. Not really expensive
Character counts
Tim has character. I think you can’t go wrong having quality people on the team. Let time judge
I half agree...
I am not down on Tebow but unless the Broncos have someone we’re not aware of we still could use a LB, a guard and…oh yeah…A CENTER.
I assume there’s a plan. Looking forward to seeing it.

But you can pick Pro-Bowl centers in the 6th round (Nalen), pro-bowl LB’s in the 12th (Meck). I don’t know that you can stumble across Tebow’s in the late rounds.

It is insane. How many players have a 70% completion rate? I like Orton, but doesn anyone think he (or Quinn) is taking us to a SB in the next three years? Tebow won’t either, but he’ll be in place when Denver moves to the next level.
Everyone is so focused on Tebow’s character (because it is so excellent) that they overlook his record. He was one of the top 3 QBs in the draft, and we had a lot of picks stacked up. This draft is deep to the bottom of the middle rounds, and we have the picks to shore up the team.

even if he doesnt produce this year
we didnt bet the farm on this guy, granted we could have used those other picks on more needs but if he produces in a few years like he did in college MC D and Xanders will look like absolute geniuses. Not to mention Gruden is very high on this kid as well and he Prefers vets at QB.

Not my choice, but interesting none the less
I am on record opposing this pick, but there are things to like about Tebow.
He certainly is an imposing physical player. Big, strong, fast, and tough as nails.
He has a great work ethic, and an even better attitude.
He protects that ball, and has pretty good accuracy.
He will be a nightmare for opposing defenses to scheme against.
He does not do drugs, beat or rape women, get into drunken brawls, or refuse to return his bosses phone call.
I will be very interested to watch him develop, and to see how we might use him this year while he learns the ropes. I think it is possible, but not probable, that he progresses faster than anyone expects and becomes the starter this year. He has the desire, the smarts, and the physical tools to make it happen, not to mention the added incentive to prove all the haters and doubters wrong. While he was not one of my choices, I will still cheer for him and root for him to succeed.
He is a Bronco, after all.

I was a big time Tebow hater, maybe still am a little. But none of it was his doing, aside from the constant religious bombardment (which is an entirely different subject not worth the text).
From a pure fan of the game perspective, I like this pick. It provides excitement and a reason to pay attention. You can’t deny the impact he can have on a game or a team, and hopefully some of that translates to the league.
For those of you crying about passing on someone like Williams…what I’m supposed to be upset about passing on a late first DT or someone of that ilk? Big deal. Give me Thomas and Tebow. I’ll take that package of pure talent, character, and exciting potential over anything else.
Perhaps someone could clear up what picks we have left? Do we not still have a 2nd, two 3rds, and a 4th even after trading up for Tebow?

Short yardage/red zone packages
I am one who has strong doubts Tebow is a NFL QB. That being said, I do think he is a special talent and could help fill a need on situations like short yardage or in the Red Zone. The stats may not bear it out, but I could remember a lot of 3rd/1 anf 4th/1 which were not made…and settling for a lot of close fgs.
It is reported that Tebow has already signed a ten year contract..
He has accepted $25 per year and will be donating it all to water well building efforts in Africa.
Good Question...

I gotta be honest
I was skeptical at first because I was simply misinformed about him. But the more I read up on him and saw the tape and his interviews (the way he talks about football), he’s impossible not to like as a prospect. McD will do wonders with him. Mark it. If he can turn a college backup into a franchise qb (or at least get paid like one), imagine what he could do with possibly the greatest college player of all time?
by RockyMountainHigh on Apr 22, 2010 8:55 PM MDT up reply actions
Why does everyone think McD will turn him into a great QB?
He’s no Tom Brady
Troy Tulowitzki - Best SS in the MLB - 2010 MVP
Brad Hawpe - Will prove the doubters wrong
Todd Helton - Time for his ring to come true
Daley for Closer!!
tom brady was no tom brady before he became tom brady either

I went to Illinois and watched Brady as a college QB in the flesh.
If you would have told me he would be what he is today, I would have laughed in your face.
Tebow is working on mechanics. They changed after three weeks. Most people said Urban Meyer did a terrible job preparing him for the NFL. If that is true, what will happen if he actually gets COACHING? Did he really play on pure, raw talent these past years? If so, the ceiling is very high.
This...
I think is the multi-million dollar question.
I’ve watched his FLA game film… Tebow doesn’t look like a guy that will succeed in the NFL. His release was terrible, his mid/deep passes not terribly accurate, and he was running a dumbed down offense that didn’t really have more than 1 or 2 reads before he took off running. It SCREAMS bust.
That said, he has great intangibles, and will work as hard as anyone to improve. The question of his new mechanics, and whether he can actually switch his muscle memory to them, while learning how to read a pro defense. McD saw his new mechanics just last week, so he knows more than we do. The tape isn’t good… but McD hopefully knows something we don’t. Don’t kind yourself…its a BIG risk… but the upside is huge.
We’ll see…
How did you acquire actual game film?
Or did you just watch it on TV?

Okay
so why draft another QB after we just picked up the mighty Quinn … if you were not sure about Quinn … then why trade for him … So now we have 4 QB’s does this leave Tommy B the odd man out … or does this mean that Orton will not be resigned?
because quinn was a cheap way to replace a terrible backup quarterback
by the name of chris simms. who’s apparently a great guy, but not a terrible backup quarterback.
we did not give up a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or even a 5th for quinn. he was cheap. he’s not a big investment.

Tebow cost us exactly the caliber of player we could have got at this point in the draft if we had picked someone other than him. And given our needs in other areas, and given the fact we already have three QBs, this was an extremely expensive pick. Let’s hope it was worth it.

What about Clady?
We have a superstar LT to protect a QB’s blind side. Tebow’s blind side is the other side. Assuming for the sake of argument that Tebow becomes competent enough to play QB, does Clady merit the superstar left tackle money? Will he become tradable? Probably not. However, Ryan Harris is now suddenly more important. How’s his health?

Defenses don't flip their rushers, so it's not really that important.
Owning the Patriots since September 9, 1960
totally overrated
Defenses move the pass-rushers around so much, the blindside is kind of irrelevant. You have to have guys that can pass protect one on one on both sides in today’s NFL.
The blind side of the QB was more about where teams lined up their best passrusher, which was more about getting away from the chipping TE and being able to use smaller guys with speed on the edge… it had little to do with the QB’s vision.
With the new great LTs, teams have also been moving those passrushers around, further diluting the effect. Think about how often we had Doom attacking the RT.
Plus Clady and Harris are both fine. Both can go one on one.
This is not something to worry about.
Is it just me
or did we convert one first round pick into two first round picks and get quality players and still have picks left…Nice!!!

We gave up a 5th rounder for a 1st round bust, and we gave up equal value for the pick, not Tebow, who is NOT an NFL Qb.

Confused but ok with it
I dont think McD is stupid. But winning is all I care about. He gets 2 more years to make this team a contender after that, he must go. Bowlen must have known this was happening and approved of the moves. To me Tim Tebow reminds me alot of Steve Young. And for the value I think its worth the GAMBLE. Still have alot of pics left to fill holes and 2nd rounders next year.
No way I like this, but I sure hope to be proven wrong
In a deep draft, we gave up 3 possibly really good players. We HAVE a good qb that’s a good leader, good worker, well liked by his teammates, and smart, and another former #1, that is supposed to blossom with McD. Why do we need another one? The only explanation I can come up with, is Wild Horses. Maybe McD is going to change the game, and do it with the perfect tool. I’ll bet we’ll see lots of wild horses, and in the red zone too. Man I really want to be wrong about this pick, but I don’t like it.

The Bills were trading into the 1st round to det Tebow so he would have been gone had we wait. As for listening to all these experts…..let me remind you they all said that Jamarcus was worth a #1 and that Leaf had more talent than Payton. Look at what the dude went through. Literally everyone was down on him. Yet he kept his cool. His reaction of Jones’ comment was awesome. He has grit and determination. Everyone said that he is not NFL ready. They did not say he is not trainable. Now imagine him in McD’s tutelage with mechanics fixed. We have the game on the line with a fourth down in the red zone. What you need there is a calm QB who has been there before. Not Cutler who threw in INT.

First, it tells us that the SEC has dominated the draft in recent years, as you probably already knew. But five guys at the most important position on the field taken No. 1 overall in a 12-year stretch is a remarkable accomplishment, even by the lofty standards of the dominant conference in college football.
Second, it tells us that NFL talent evaluators are out of their [expletive deleted] minds.

This is so...incredibly, and ludicrously stupid
There are things to evaluate other than statistics. Especially in the college-NFL transition. Those statistics were put up in an offense that looks NOTHING like what he will run in the NFL and was against defenses nowhere near as good as those he will face in the NFL. He has an awful throwing motion, he is unreliable past 5 yards, and his tough guy act won’t fly in the NFL.
There is a reason why the NFL pays people to scout players, its because they know what they are doing. Do they make mistakes? yes, as does anyone in a talent evaluation situation, but I guarundamntee you they know more about evaluating talent than someone who looks solely at statistics.

Hey guys, I hope you’ll forgive me…I just want to apologize for what I’m about to say. At this point, I don’t like the location of this pick. It wouldn’t do me any good to offer any reasons why, because I’d just be shot down.
But you see, this is why I come here and post this…I want you guys to help me with this.
The positive side I was alluding to is – what many others have mentioned – that there are still tons of picks left. And hopefully, in a draft as deep as this one, they will be used to improve the DEFENSIVE side of the ball. Again, it’s only been one round…it’s almost hard to realize that with the new format and all.
But again, I see McDaniels coming in here and doing away with everyone so he can have what he wants on offense. Character wins games in high school, but I’m skeptical about it doing so in the pros…with that said, I’m willing to give it a pass for a few years and see how this all plays out.
So again, please do not shell me. Those of you that know me from posting in the past know I do not intend to troll. I am just struggling with this right now. I don’t know if it’s McDaniels’ methods I’m not a fan of or what. But, I wanted to be honest. I wanted to come here and get some useful insight (which is always here courtesy of the guys formerly known as styg, teach, etc.).
Hopefully you can help me out. McD went and got one of the players I dislike the most in the NFL in Brady Quinn and now Tim Tebow (who I love as a ‘guy’) but I just think there are more needs out there. Again, I leave it to you guys to help me out here. Again, I’m sorry I’m only one of the few of you who don’t like this as much. But, like I said, there’s still a lot of picks to go.
Go Broncos! :)
First of all, the picks that we spent to get him were acquired from trading back, weren't they?
I believe on balance we still have most of the picks we had previously. So in that view, we got a potential star and still broke even. I wasn’t a huge Tebow guy, but I’m okay with that.

Thats not breaking even
Thats sacrificing draft position. This pick didn’t cost them nothing, it cost them assets that they had acquired by moving other assets. Those assets could have been put to better use than Tebow.
Glad there's at least someone out there that feels similarly
I mean they already have quarterbacks in there…I guess you could argue they’re bringing in a franchise guy (obviously McDaniels likes him)…or they’ll play him at FB with Hillis gone…joking :-D…..I still don’t know. Like I said that’s why I decided to post. I don’t like this feeling I have now. I would like it to be more positive.
What you guys have posted so far as helped…but I shall wait until the draft is over to see how i’m feeling.
i'm with you more than you might think, phantom
What this tells me in a nutshell is that McDaniels is far from sold on Orton and quite possibly has no plans for Quinn going forward.

Then why did we get Quinn?
This is part of what I don’t understand. I need to understand! haha
Maybe this is something to push Kyle? idk.
that was before the draft
my money says Brady will be starting in Buffalo before you know it.

We needed a backup QB too
I said it at the time, “even if Quinn turns out to be nothing more than our backup, it’s a great trade – we only gave up the equivalent of a 5th round pick.” Or something like that. We got good value and we needed a backup QB.

that may be true
if you don’t think McDaniels can cash in on Tebow’s upside. I’m not convinced one way or the other. But as I’ve said before, if you’re (supposedly) a QB “maker”, and can be the guy that turns Tebow into a franchise starter, you have to make this move. It doesn’t surprise me at all that McDaniels would make this bet. I hope it pans out for him, but only time will tell.

frankly
i would have preferred some OL help. But that was when I felt McDaniels felt Orton had a future. Not so sure any more about that.

Yeah
I don’t know what to think about what McDaniels is thinking anymore. I’m willing to give it time.
someone said he's crazy like a fox or just crazy
Hard to tell right now. LOL But I do have to admire his moxie. Man has cojones of titanium.

I hate the fact that the season is so far away. Moxie is all well and good, but if it ends up failing then it’s not good at all. I just hate being nervous on this one.
Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day for me.

and we won’t know until we’re in the playoffs or not.
#!#!!! WHY do we watch this frakkin game again? Do we LIKE it LOL

We could have just taken Thomas at 11.

Agreed and well said. You won't get fragged for feeling the way MOST of us here felt until a half hour ago...
We are left to trust McX and somehow I do with VERY little to go on. I would SO HAVE TAKEN SO MANY different players with those picks… IMO we made poor choices.
Still I’ll back McX for the length of his contract and hhopefully for years beyond it. There’s something about McD and Xanders that I belive in …somebody feel free to explain it to me…
I can say …WE WILL PICK IN THE TRENCHES TOMORROW!

Sure gave me food for thought! GO BRONCOS!!!
So why are they out of their minds?
Got to be a reason. Other than the availae
stats. It just wouldn’t make sense otherwise

Wow, this looks familiar
Drafting Cutler when we had a decent QB in Plummer? Now drafting Tebow when we have a decent QB in Orton? I guess this worked out well for us before? Honestly, I don’t know.

Well like the pick
I didn’t think we would draft him, however after McDaniels interview before the draft and the private workout on Monday, I kept it in the back of my mind as a possibility. Many of his attributes, you just can’t teach and we all know he will work his tail off to improve on anything…..110% effort 100% of the time.
I thought we were going to get some trench players, however I am happy with the pick along with WR Thomas.

Its not the best move they could have made...
there are better QBs out there…and there are many positions that the Broncos should fill first.
I hope this ends up better than I feel.
yep
I have no idea if this is good or bad. I hear both sides and everyone’s points seem valid. I’m just marveling at the grandiosity of the move. Sure hasn’t been boring around here for awhile.

That is true...lol
I really get frustrated though with people who take everything to the extreme…which even I do quite a bit. I hate Drama and now I have to listen to everyone either worship the ground Tebow walks one (like Cutler has in Chicago and I have to listen to) and I have to listen to the people who want him dead and impaled; and the same goes with people and Orton. Taking a look at what I wrote I went to the extreme again…uggg its happening already!!!
it's all good
We wouldn’t be fans if we didn’t live on the fringes every now and then. ; )

one thing is for sure
Tebow and McDaniels careers are now tied together. If one fails, they both fail. Its not the same situation belichek was in at this point in his career… that would be Brandstater to McDaniels… I hope it works out as a lifetime Bronco fan

anyone want to venture a guess about who
is the odd man out?
I’m guessing Quinn, since our investment in him thus far is zero as far as acquainting him with the system. Depends on how far Brandstater has progressed, I suppose.

For those of you concerned about the trading of the picks for Tebow, we started off the day with a 11 pick and had 43/45/80/114/137/183 we basically got our 11 pick in the 22 spot and pay less money for him, get the 43 pick in the 25 position for Tebow as a slash option and learning backup QB, still retain the 45/80 picks, upgrade the 114 pick to now be a much more useful 87 pick in the 3rd round instead of the 4th , and still have the 137 and 183 picks..
So although we had temporary hold of the picks we traded for Tebow, the ones we traded were the ones we traded for anyway.
Its like we got Tebow as our #43 pick a day early and got a free upgrade from #114 in the 4th round to #87 in the 3rd to boot.
Plus we pay #22 money instead of #11 money for the replacement WR to replace Brandon Marshall
Overall not bad
My Question is...
How long until Tim Tebow joins the super best friends on south park.

One thing is very clear
we have a lot of want to be coaches, I don’t think most of these want to be coaches would have been happy with any pick we took. Just love how all these coaches that I have never seen here before know so much more than our coach and FO, lets not forget our owner. Who by the way did mention that he would like to see a QB taken this year.
So, why all the negative talk and all the wasted babble on what we think anyway? We are moving in the direction of becoming a better team, with good character athletes choosen by our coaches, scouts, FO and team owner, I do beleive that is all that counts here, these are good times for the Bronco’s.
As far as all these coaches that can already tell which players we have are a total bust or a reach or just not NFL material, I need a little bit of meat behind these opinions, need to see this crystal ball or whatever method that is being used to back these opinions up. Because at this point they are just baseless opinions, which are only based on biased feelings for certain players that didn’t get drafted by us, I can get this kind of logic by watching Jamie Dukes.
We are the Bronco’s, we are trying to put together a team by drafting players that may have an impact now and also players that are planned for the near future.
Am I a Tebow fan? I don’t know, I do know that I love the unknown just about as much as the known. I love the possibility that we may have a diamond in the rough, another Rod Smith, another great team and character player that can play great, another team without all the drama tagging along.
I will not sit here and even try and convince anybody that I may know more than our coaches and draft team or even know anything at all about football. I do know that I love this team and I do know that I don’t want avg players that are good guys, I know for a fact that I will welcome any player that can come in here and get us back on the winning trend again, get us back to the SB again, I will welcome everyone of those guys. I just won’t pretend to know who those players are until they have had a chance to prove themselves.
I don’t want to ever be satisfied to just make it to the dance and be happy to be there and be happy with good guys that will not be able to take us there again.
So, after all of this worthless babble, I am very excited to see what happens tomorrow and this is a FACT, I am one that is going to have a bit of faith in my coach, and I am going to hope all of our new players are going to lead us to the top once again, at least have a chance to do so before I throw them under the bus. As fans one would think we at least owe them a chance to prove what they have before we try to compare them to a proven winner or a reach, or a bust……
I will reserve my negative speeches until we see our failures, until then I am ready to watch the competition between our players and may the best ones kick some *ss…….Bronco’s
