Day 2 Mock Draft

??? - Will Tebow ever see the field in Denver?

DRAFT

Denver has single handedly proven why mock drafts mean nothing, yet as a fan here's who I see us taking. (AKA, the NICE GUYS)

2nd - Taylor Mays, S., USC - If we traded up to take Tebow, we better not let this guy get by us. The air-apparent to Brian Dawkins.

3rd - John Jerry, G/T., Miss - We need a guard and depth at tackle, he can play both positions.

3rd - Donald Butler, ILB., Wash - ILB is a need, Brandon Spikes has character issues, therefore, Butler is our guy

I don't see Mays slipping past the Raiders

That is Al Davis’ type of player, I would like to see us trade up because he is a freak of nature that doesn’t come along often.

Gholston never showed he could play at Ohio State

Mays has been a starter from day 1, some may argue over his coverage skills, but honestly, I think he really fits that Steve Atwater roll, a guy who can play in the box or out and bring a fear and intimidation all over the field, he likely won’t make too many int, but he will likely destroy a WR and TE every game and force teams to throw on the edges, for fear of having WR carried off on stretchers.

Mays is a waste of a pick ...

Dawkins will be replaced by Bruton, Mcbath, or Barrett … We need a center … take Tennant.

by isaiahkyler on Apr 23, 2010 9:50 AM MDT reply actions

I dont see us taking a center till the 4th.....

I usually have Tennant in my mocks, but seeing as how Mays has slipped this far and we gave up a 2nd & 3rd for Tebow , I see us taking Eric Olsen in the 4th. That 2nd could have turned out to be Gerhart, McCluster, Cody, while the 3rd could have been Tennant. But both picks turned into Tebow (who may never play).

While I like McBath, he is more of a center fielder type S, he is not a physical pressence

Bruton does not posses the speed and cover instincts, and Barrett probably won’t be on this team much longer.

I would be very happy if we landed Mays, I think learning under Dawkins with his physical skill set, he could be a scary S for years to come, you can’t coach size and speed, and he has off the charts combo.

Bruton's speed

It’s true that Bruton is raw, especially in coverage, but he’s actually faster than McBath. The movement to more short-passing systems round the league has led to increased demand for the kind of ‘centerfielder’ safety that McBath is. After living in SoCal and watching Mays play last year, he was frequently terrible in coverage. Part of that was just trying too hard for the highlight film hits, but his lack of coverage skill was exposed repeatedly. He might hit TEs very hard, but if he can’t cover them, I don’t see that point.

Bruton also is an excellent tackler. I understand that point onthose who want Mays – he’s a rare physical specimen. But the more I saw of him, the less I wanted him for Denver. By the way – McBath tied for the lead on the team in ST tackles. I would agree with you that many aren’ tthe kind of blow-up hits that Dawk delivers, but he gets his man down cleanly and with good form. Just for what it’s worth

It all starts with the lines

I don't disaggree regarding Mays coverage skills

And maybe the NFL is moving away from those type of safeties, but I think the Broncos have always been known for having an impact safety who scaried WR, part of what makes Mays effective, is that WR have a fear of getting nailed, so they are looking for Mays and not paying attention to the route or the ball. Atwater, Dennis Smith, John Lynch…alll were probably not the best coverage guys, but the fear and intimidation they brought on the field made up for the lack of coverage ability. It is amazing how guys won’t lay out for balls or grow alligator arms when you have a pressence like that. To me, Mays is that type of player who can cover by fear if anything else.

Okay I like the Butler and Jerry picks

and while I like Mays, there really isn’t room or need for him at this point. But, then that’s what I thought about the QB position. Anyway, we need a center so put Tennant in the middle of your selections and I’m good.

What about Mt Cody instead of Mays?!??!

otherwise love the Butler and Jerry picks… also watch the center Eric Olsen from ND in the 4th or 5th for our surprise starting center this year! Just a hunch!

Actually that was reported incorrectly

We have (barring any more trades of course)
Rd 2, Pick 13 (45)
Rd 3, Pick 16 (80)
Rd 3, Pick 23 (87)
Rd 5, Pick 6 (137)
Rd 6, Pick 14 (183)

ah my bad... misreporting lead me astray! details!

then the 5th it is or honestly i don’t think any of us would be surprised if we end up with a 4th somehow with the wheeling and dealing!

by Orange_Crush on Apr 23, 2010 10:30 AM MDT up reply actions

The argument is moot

After all the trading yesterday I’d put money that 50% or more of our current picks end up NOT being the same pick…. I.e. 45,80,87,137,183 could become 49,52,55,88,90, 95. These possiblities are limitless and we have been proven to know JACK about McD’s plans….so lets just sit back, relax, and enjoy the feature presentation.

I like it.

Everything I have heard about Mays as a person has been great. He could eventually team with McBath at Safety.

John Jerry is a Stud at 6’5" 328lbs who played better than Iupati during The Senior Bowl.

Denver needs either a Guard or Center for sure.

by Broncosfansd on Apr 23, 2010 11:14 AM MDT reply actions

Instead

Of mays get a center or vlad duccase because im relatively sure we have a plan for seth olsen and if he can take over for center or guard and we pick up two more beast linemen it’ll be a done deal come game time!
