Tebow's improved mechanics will make a huge difference in creating time and space to make throws at the Pro level!

Typical throwing release?

How fast is a typical release for a qb? does .530 seconds put him on par with other starting NFL qb’s?

by broncoboy326 on Apr 24, 2010 10:15 PM MDT reply actions

I doubt there's a database for that

It’s not like they measure release times at the combine. Tebow’s just a special case since it’s the most scrutinized throwing motion in football history… or at least it sure seems like it.

by RockyMountainHigh on Apr 25, 2010 7:26 AM MDT up reply actions

I guess that leads to a another BIG point...

Really, how bad was Tebow’s release before it was fixed? It was good enough to the be the most successful SEC QB and one of the greatest college players of all time.
There has never been any complaints of his arm strength, and with his old action he made all the throws.
If the new action is improved, it just makes him better.
SO, and trust me, I have been doing a tonne of research on the kid, I am starting to get that feeling that the mechanics thing is one of THE MOST OVER RATED KNOCKS I HAVE EVER HEARD.
I honestly am thinking that McD is laughing to himself, and considers Tebow the steal of the draft. It is no coincidence that Dungy, Gruden, Belichick and Carroll (4 very smart men and 4 very great coaches) had Tebow as a high 1st round pick.
The more I research, the more I think the general consensus of him not being NFL ready is a clock.
And I think McD let something out of the bag when saying (and I am paraphrasing) that the best player will play be it veteran of rookie when spekaing about Tebow as being a QB only. I am not convinced that McD is ruling Tebow put as starter. I think he feels he has a lot of work to do, but he is not writing the kid off, and feels he is a lot closer than all the “experts” realize.

It's not overated...

Mechanics mean way more in the NFL than in college just because the competition is better and faster than in the NCAA.

When you look at the video you can see that the “simple” change bought him 2 feet, which is an enormous amount of time to find the player open, and to take away the reaction time of the DB.

Also .. the longer the motion the bigger chance of a mistake happening in it, which leads to inconsistency and inaccuracy when pressured. The fact is the longer period of time when something can go wrong the more chance that it will go wrong.

The Broncos got a really good player in Tebow and if his accuracy can remain with this new motion he has a real chance at making all of these “experts” look pretty stupid – again.

by hallandnash on Apr 25, 2010 8:49 AM MDT up reply actions

Agreed man.....fact is, he is one of the best QB's ever in college with a flawed motion.....I have now doubts he could be a successful starter with his old motion...

But he can be exceptional with his new motion. No doubt in my mind!

This...

…was never in doubt. Tebow, with good mechanics, is All Pro/HOF-caliber… his upside is off the charts.

The problem is, that switching mechanics is notoriously difficult because you have to retrain the muscle memory not to go back to the bad habits when under pressure. I was never impressed by his release speed or mid-/deep- accuracy in college, and that little margin of error doesn’t exist at the NFL level. His best skill in college, tough running (he’s not particularly fast either, unlike Vick/Young), is not exactly a skill NFL QBs rely on or that you want them using too often…

This is why Tebow is considered a project… because he needs to put so many reps into the new motion to train the new muscle memory, and even then, it may revert when being chased by some big mean NFL DE, while his brain is calculating 75 other variables as he reads the defense, etc. Basically, the new motion has to become 2nd nature, because his brain is needed for other things.

I’m excited and hope Tebow can excel… but I’m also not deluding myself into thinking this is anything like a sure thing. While he has probably the ebst chance of our picks of being HOF-level, he also has probably the biggest chance of any of our draftpicks, including the 7th rounders, of washing out and not being ANYTHING.

Seen it somewhere

I remember seeing it on a MNF game before though. It was maybe Rothlisberger or Warner or Bluger I wanna say, but it could be known of those, and they recorded his release time while he was playing and talked about how amazing it was.

Thanks + you're welcome ;-)

Yeah this was really cool when I saw it on ESPN the other day. And it made me feel less worried about him, esp knowing all his other positive intangibles. One of the few insightful things I’ve seen on ESPN this week, ha hah.

And yeah broncoboy, I wondered the same thing, I’d like to know what to compare that to. All I know is that he improved a lot, it makes a difference, etc. But what’s a good yard stick?

Further proof I just googled Jamie Dukes Mock Draft in 2007

And he has Jamarcus the Hutt on the top of his board with raving remarks… he is officially a douche!

I think it shows that people really have no clue what they are getting from the draft

except for a few seemingly sure fire players that come along. I just hope we took some very good guess gambles.

Mile High Magic

Mile High Magic
It felt as though the Mile High Magic was zapped out of the city of Denver when the old Mile High Stadium was tore down years ago. Perhaps it was not the building and it’s design containing that Mile High Magic. Could it of been Elway? I do not think that we will have to compare Elway to any more Denver QB’s; we have Tebow. That Mile High Magic is already starting to form again here in Denver. Tebow will help us live in the moment, and like Elway, Tebow will certainly have his loses. Tebow, like Elway, will also give his all to the city of Denver and the Denver Broncos organization. This is going to get crazy, and we have Pat Bowlen and Josh McDaniels to thank! Tebow has made it known that the locker room is not a place to push his religious beliefs. I do not believe that Tebow’s religious belief will get in the way of him being a great person that works extremely hard. It does not take a Christian to be a good person, it takes a good person to be a good person. Many of us may not agree with Tebow’s religious beliefs, but surely we can care for Tebow without judgement… I am sure he will extend to us the same courtesy.

I feel terrible for Kyle Orton. I am sure McDaniels would understand if Kyle requested a trade, but I could also see Kyle Orton taking advantage of great opportunities that will present themselves very soon (with the Broncos, Tebow, and other NFL teams). Orton will be remembered as the QB that worked his ass off day in and day out for the Denver Broncos. He will be remembered as one of the classiest Broncos to ever wear a Bronco’s uniform. He will be remembered as the guy that helped keep a struggling organization a float. Orton, you are a great guy and deserve nothing but the best.

I am happy for the fans, the organization, and even envious of the money that the Colorado media will make for years to come. If us fans want to get anything productive done in our lives, we might just have to stick to watching the games as there is going to be a lot of Tebow talk… and I am all for it.

Some analysts say one, two, or even three years before letting him lose… hell with that, I say release the beast (I mean saint) on opening in the great city of Jacksonville! Do you honestly think that Tebow could not handle being thrown into the fire (so to speak) from day one?

I agree with you on th point of Tebows religious beliefs

appears MSM is blowing it out of proportion, if he had been partying and such they wouldnt have said a thing. If/when Tebow steps into starting spot I hope Orton is still around and willing to be the backup QB. That would be awesome!

I believe that Orton could also be a good QB coach someday!

by Auz on Apr 25, 2010 11:14 AM MDT up reply actions

Don't feel sorry for Orton...

he’s a solid QB, and he WILL be the starter when the season starts. I would imagine he will finish the season as the starter as well. Orton has every opportunity here to earn himself a fat contract from somebody be it us or another team. He only has one year left here and if he can play at a high level for the entire season I’m sure someone will pay him.

I doubt Orton will get thrown under the bus the way Plummer did, but, as always, I could be wrong.

i dont feel sorry for Orton

And I agree that he will be the starter all year unless he gets hurt. What I would like to see and dont believe it will happen is that Orton stays the starter till Tebow takes over and then stays in Denver as the defacto backup QB. Not sure if that is realistic but I would love to see it happen. Orton is a solid QB.

this will only make Orton better.. and Brady Quinn for that matter. Strong competition is never a bad thing.

by hallandnash on Apr 25, 2010 8:52 AM MDT up reply actions

I am impatient, I hope Tebow starts this year… in Jacksonville.

by Auz on Apr 25, 2010 11:13 AM MDT up reply actions

Don't kid yourself folks...

Orton could still be our QB in a couple of years, because Tebow becoming a bonafide NFL-caliber QB is far from a sure thing.

Is it likely Orton sticks around after this year? Probably not… but if Orton puts up big numbers this year and Tebow doesn’t completely internalize his new mechanics, Tebow could be the one leaving and Orton staying…. A late round 1st contract isn’t too expensive to cut, unlike if we’d used the #11.

by cjfarls on Apr 25, 2010 11:32 AM MDT up reply actions

Fans (including myself) already are calling for Tebow to be the starter. I think it could happen, I hope it happens. The earlier Tebow gets thrown in there, the earlier he can start fullfilling his dreams. Tebow is not one of those qb’s that has to mature on the bench. Will Tebow make some terrible mistakes? Will he have let-downs? Of course he will, but McD didn’t draft this kid to ride the pine… I think McD wants him to start right now.

by Auz on Apr 25, 2010 12:04 PM MDT up reply actions

Tebow doesn’t have to mature, but he does have to internalize his new mechanics… I’m not sure he can do that if thrown into the fire, because there are too many other things he has to do learning the NFL game than concentrate on his form…

If McX throws him to the wolves immediately, I think that means we’re stuck with his old mechanics, which means we may have a bust on our hands, because the release speed and inconsistent intermediate accuracy may not translate to the NFL game.

The absolute best thing for Tebow is to get about a bazillion practice reps with his new mechanics, learn the NFL game in the film room and practice field, and then go into next year with the new mechanics as second nature. This so insanely obvious to me (but who knows, I could be wrong), that I think anybody who wants to throw him into the fire immediately is unknowingly begging for Tebow to fail. I don’t think McD is that dumb.

That was an incredible video, thanks for brining that up...

I actually was wondering if any football program on TV had done a special that compared his change in motion, and this was terrific. Now I would like to see an animation of Tebow’s new motion compared to the motion of a Manning or Brady.

Even better

Let’s see Tebow’s new motion in a real game. Or even in TC, with Doom bearing down on him.
