Revisiting Brandon Marshall
Hey everybody. I wrote a Broncos-specific article on my new site, and I wanted to share it with y'all. I hope you enjoy it, and find value in it.

Must Read - Follow the link - Why Brandon Marshall will
Tks Ted; great synopsis on B.Marshall hopefully it all works out for BM and Broncos. We’re a better team with him and then without him.

Great read!
I don’t want to say anything about what the comments at the bottom begin to remind me of…. I’m sure you’d rather not focus on it….
Thanks Ted

Thx Ted, nice to hear from you again. Will have to check your site on the regulars..
Pearl: Yer surely there must be some sort of minimum entry requirement for a site called smarter fans :-P
Great job TB...your work is missed my friend!

Failing to plan is planning to fail.
All I want is 53 Rod Smiths. Is that asking too much????

I liked the risk analysis. My only question is whether there isn’t a better way to value Marshall’s production. Opportunity cost would be a start. To rack up those stats, he’s led the league in targets by a fat amount. Over that 3-year period, other WRs on the Broncos had higher catch rates and higher yards-per-catch. Some of Marshall’s production comes at the cost of other receivers who were more productive per target. Taking that into account would bump down his estimated value a bit.
I realize that wasn’t the point. You started with a round number for valuation, then used it as the fodder for the risk analysis, which was th epoint of the article. I have the statistical and financial skills to deal with this, but you’re the rare guy who can blend them with knolwedge of the game on the field. I am greedy. More, please.
Marshall is a more talented and productive WR than Roddy White, but its close and maybe debatable. Using the White contract as a template would be wise and allow Denver to retain a guy at a fair price.
In my opinion.
I’ve made a pet hobby of listing wide receivers I think are better than Marshall. I usually get to about 20 before I call it a day. Roddy White has never appeared on that list. So here’s the tricky part: I think Marshall is a better receiver than White. I also think that White is overpaid, and badly.
That’s why I would love someone who knows as mucha bout the game to weigh in on the talent comparison. It wasn’t the point of the post, but it’s a relevant question, and one where I’d like a voice intervening between a) fans who call Marshall a top WR and b) people like me who point out that he drops a lot of balls and has low yards per catch and fumbles and doesn’t score that many touchdowns. Both perspectives probably overdo it.
Yeah
What McGeorge said. Awesome, thanks Ted!
Great piece TB.
I don’t pay too much attention to the MSM on this topic along with many others. You are so right, I mean they think that is written in stone that Marshall won’t be in Denver for the 2010 season and just might not be. However the have never even discussed this topic form a Bronco management point of view. This will work in our favor one way or the other.
