MHR 2010 Draftivus Winners Announced!
The entries have finally all been scored, and those scores tallied, which means it is now time to announce the Draftivus winners!
We'll start with this year's Grand Prize Winner. Grand Prize receives a lot of cool S.T.Y.G.S.T.U.F.F., including some MHR coasters, an $80 NFLShop.com Instant Gift Certificate, and the awesome Kap in the picture, signed by many of our 2009 rookie class.
It should be noted that the highest score possible was 60 for pre-trade mocks, and 70 for those who submitted their mocks after the BM and Scheff trades. The average score of the MHR community was 12 points, so these following entries are particularly impressive. Also, in order to increase competitiveness, the exact number of the picks do not have to line up, just the round. So if you had WR Eric Decker going to us with the 17th pick in the 3rd round, you were awarded 10 points for correct player at correct pick (round). I was also pretty picky about classifying of players, position wise. Jammie Kirlew was specifically a rush DE/OLB, so in order to get 2 points for a DE choice anywhere else in the draft, he couldn't be primarily a downlineman, DE/DT type player. The same applied to OT/OG vs OG/C hybrids, which were considered different positions.
Grand Prize Winner: Mudagoose10
The high score of 30 points came on the following mock, and it should be noted that this was a pre-trade mock, which just goes to show. Very few entries actually speculated that the Broncos would trade as much as they did on draft day, so great job Goose!
1st Round-Jared Odrick DE--(2 points for correct position, regardless of when taken)
2nd Round-Vladimir Duccasse OT/OG--(3 points for correct position in actual round taken)
3rd Round-Toby Gerhart RB--(0 points)
4th Round-Brandon Spikes ILB--(0 points)
6th Round-Eric Olsen OG/C--(10 points for correct player in correct round)
7th Round-Chris Marinelli OT/OG--(5 points correct player, regardless of where taken)
Number of Trades-4+ (10 points)
Total Points: 30
First Place Winner: Calibroncoboy
27 points was good enough for first place, and what is interesting is that Cali also took first place in last years first round mock contest, so he is starting to build a reputation. I'll also mention that he was the only mocker to have EVERY mock he submitted score over 20 points, so congrats on a great effort Cali! He has a $50 NFLShop Instant Gift Certificate coming his way!
1st Round-Rolando McClain ILB--(0 points)
2nd Round-Tim Tebow QB--(5 points for correct player, regardless of where taken)
2nd Round- Damian Williams WR--(2 points for correct position, regardless of where taken)
3rd Round-JD Walton C--(10 points for correct player in correct round)
4th Round-Zane Beadles OT/OG--(5 points for correct player, regardless of where taken)
5th Round-Alteraun Verner CB--(3 points for correct position in correct round)
6th Round-Danario Alexander WR--(2 points correct position, regardless of where taken)
Number of Trades-2 (0 points)
Second Place Winner: diviesti
26 points puts diviesti just a breath behind Cali. He also predicted 4 trades, so he had the right idea that McX would be active, but 4+ would have catapulted him to a high score. Great job nailing down many of Denver's needs! A $25 NFLShop Instant Gift Certificate is all yours!
1st Round Dez Bryant WR--(3 points for correct position in correct round)
2nd Round-Toby Gerhart RB--(0 points)
2nd Round- Vladimir Duccasse OT/OG--(3 points for correct position in correct round)
3rd Round-JD Walton C--(10 points for correct player in correct round)
4th Round-Eric Decker WR--(5 points for correct player, regardless of where taken)
5th Round-Alteraun Verner CB--(3 points for correct position in correct round)
6th Round-Armanti Edwards WR--(2 points correct position, regardless of where taken)
Number of Trades-4 (0 points)
Third Place Winner 1: Tim Lorenz
We had a tie for third place, with 25 points each, but MHR isn't stingy, so we'll just hand out TWO third place awards for the 2010 Draftivus! Tim's solid effort here nets him a $10 NFLShop Instant Gift Certificate. Congrats!
1st Round-Rolando McClain ILB--(0 points)
2nd Round-Vladimir Duccasse OT/OG--(3 points for correct position in actual round taken)
2nd Round- Tim Tebow QB--(5 points for correct player, regardless of where taken)
3rd Round-Eric Decker WR--(10 points for correct player in correct round)
4th Round-JD Walton C--(5 points for correct player, regardless of where taken)
5th Round-Armanti Edwards WR--(2 points correct position, regardless of where taken)
6th Round-Nate Byham TE--(0 points)
Number of Trades-1 (0 points)
Third Place Winner 2: Wicks
Last but not least, Wicks' entry will net him a $10 NFLShop Instant Gift Certificate. Congrats!
1st Round-Maurkice Pouncey C--(2 points for correct position, regardless of where taken)
2nd Round-Vladimir Duccasse OT/OG--(3 points for correct position in actual round taken)
2nd Round- Tim Tebow QB--(5 points for correct player, regardless of where taken)
3rd Round-Eric Decker WR--(10 points for correct player in correct round)
4th Round-Al Woods DE/DT--(0 points)
5th Round-Alteraun Verner CB--(3 points for correct position in correct round)
6th Round-Armanti Edwards WR--(2 points correct position, regardless of where taken)
Number of Trades-2 (0 points)
Congratulations to our Class of 2010 Draftivus winners above, and a hearty thanks to everyone who took the time to submit entries into the contest. the turnout was tripled from last year (and yes, that number accounts for the 3 entries allowed this year), and I hope to see all of you throughout the season here at MHR, and here again when Draftivus strikes in 2011. I was really impressed with the number of mocks that called Walton and Decker, and it was nice to see that many of you were well prepared for Beadles to join the roster. Cox made it onto a number of mocks and Syd'Quan and Marinelli were each called by at least one MHR member. Also, it is worth mentioning that Tebow and Thomas, our two first rounders, were called enmasse by Broncos' faithful, just not in the first round. Great work everyone!
For the winners above, please send an email to styg50@gmail.com and let us know what email address you would like your Gift Certificate sent to. It can be activated immediately. Also, Mudagoose needs to email and let us know what physical address he would like his S.T.Y.G.S.T.U.F.F. sent to.
Until next year, consider this to be the official end of Draftivus 2010. It's been another Draftivus Miracle!

you shouldn't have picked them all in the first round
just kidding ; )

ha — no problem was I went Defense early and often!
Weatherspoon, Alualu, Cody, Walton, Decker, Beadles, Jefferson
yep
ILB, pure DL and RB were the real killers (along with punter of course o.O) since they didn’t score points no matter how you sliced it. I really felt like Gerhart was going to be targeted, so I sympathize totally with all the Gerhart picks (and there were many).
Also, in case anybody was wondering, McCluster was counted as a WR/KR/RB, so people who selected him got at least 2 points.
What was REALLY interesting was how many 3rd and 5th round picks were accurate, while the first round was almost 100% dud for everyone. 6 people predicted Tebow in the 1st round, and the rest of the first round picks came from people guessing 1st round OL (2 points) and people guessing Dez Bryant (3 points).
Last year the 1st round scored high and the rest of the rounds were hit and miss.

Maybe you can trade it...
…for a Tebow nameplate and a 3rd and 5th in next year’s draft. It’s what McDaniels would do.
CONGRATUMALTIONS!
to the winners and to everyone who mocked their hearts out to make this the best draftivus ever! Loved every write-up, every carefully calibrated conjecture, every wild flier! And congratulations to the esteemed staff of MHR for once again giving us a site to be proud of!

Wow, considering how many mocks
A lot of us did, it wasn’t any big name guys to win it, shows how little some of us know.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.
Awesome
Thanks for this contest! I’m a bit embarresed about winning with only 2 of my picks being on the roster, especially since this was pre-trade. But thank you for the great prizes! Go Broncos!
Thanks
Appreciate your work for this contest, just curious about how many entries were there?

I shall win…. next year.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Since everyone else is asking...
Are you going to post the scores so everyone can see what they got? If not, what was my score?
Thank you
I could not have done this without the countless hours of work put in the mocks leading up to this. Congrats to the other winners
How can we find out what we scored?
I forgot most all of who I picked in mine :(
Wow
congrats to those people, I’m sure I didn’t do all that well, but wouldn’t mind knowing how either of my entries did. Only if that isn’t too much of a hassle. I’ve forgotten who I picked.
Just make it Thursday already! I'm wasting too much time

You know what it's ok
I just remembered I didn’t pick anyone we actually got.

Nice job winners
but I should get a prize for not picking a single correct pick in not only this years draft, but last years as well. Man I suck!

Cool
I got a high score of 20. That’s not too bad for turning them in way before the trades. Last year I would have scored a -1.

I think next year it should be mandatory for all staff to participate

Thanks for all of your work on this Jeremy.
I know that this must have taken a lot of time.
I’m both happy and sad about my 23 point total — I submitted pre-trade.
Will there be a way to cancel previous entries and submit new ones if there are late trades next year, or would that be too tough to keep track of? (I do hope that the Draftivus tradition will continue.)
Draftivus live in the hearts of draftniks
and so it will always be, unto forever.
I have been thinking about a lot of different ways to run next years Draftivus contest, and I’ll add a better way of updating to the list of things to consider. I’m also thinking that slotting players by round instead of pick is the way to go, since McX is no stranger to trading around in the draft.
If anyone has any other suggestions or considerations, let me know.

Woooooot
I would like to thank the academy,…… j/k. If only they didnt trade that last time on the last day. Not a better way to start a Monday morning this =).
I choose team over player anyday
Congrats to all of the winners.
What a hoot and a great way to fill the time before the draft. Thanks Jeremy for the fun.

Awesome job Jeremy
I’ve tried to organize stuff like this before, and I know how tough it can be. Made the draft a lot more fun!
My high score was 18. I can live with that…
is all in the scoring...
not crazy about the scoring, and UFA rookies count too? Cali had best mock draft.
