I am a new commenter on this site or any site for that matter. I’ll give you a brief history of my Bronco background before I pose the questions; I hope to get feedback on. I will try to put a break here but I don’t yet understand how to do it.
I have been reading entries on this site, for several years. I am 65 years old and had Bronco season tickets since 1963. Two years ago I had to give them up, due to my wife’s illness. I have been recording and re-watching almost every game since 1975, the interesting ones more than once.
I was not opposed to firing Shanahan but didn’t like hiring McDaniels. I wanted a more experienced defensively oriented HC. McDaniels 1st year left me Confused and disappointed. Based on the personnel on the team, FA pickups and the draft, I just didn’t see a rational plan for the future. The offensive personnel didn’t seem to match the system he was trying to implement, especially Orton at QB. This year’s draft gave me some ideas as to what that plan could be. Tebow solves the mismatch at QB. The number of spread experienced players at all positions is becoming dominant.
Could McDaniels be planning on running a much more full blown version of the college spread than other pro teams like NE & Indy? If he is, was that the plan McDaniels presented to Bowlen and Ellis that convinced them to hire him. Did that plan also include attempting to acquire Tebow? If not when did his interest in Tebow develop? Why would McDaniels sit Tebow and wait to fully implement his system, with only 2 more years on his contract? It seems to me that a change in defensive system or to players of higher character, as has been speculated, would be insufficient to sell Bowlen on an inexperienced HC. I think it would have taken a more radical idea to peak their interest. It seems to me that much of the college spread could be transitioned to the pros if you had the right players in place.
I have become impressed with the knowledge and reasoning of many of the participants on this site. Their opinion on of the above questions will help me formulate a better understanding of where the bronco are at and where they a heading.
